NAME OF DRUG: Generic Name: Ferrous Sulfate Brand Name: Feosol

MECHANI SM OF ACTION Ferrous Sulfate is an essential component in the formation of hemoglobi n, myoglobin and enzymes. It is necessary for effective erythropoie sis and transport or utilization of oxygen.

INDICATION

ONSET OF ACTION P.O: 4 days

The prevention or treatment of iron deficiency anemia due to inadequate diet, malabsorptio n pregnancy, and blood loss. *ANTIANEMIC Lactating Mothers: 325 mg per day

PEAK OF ACTIO N P.O: 7-10 days

DURATI ON P.O: 2-4 months

CONTRAI NDICATI ON contraindi cated in patients with hemoside rosis, hemochro motosis, hemolytic anemias, or known hypersen sitivity to any compone nt of the product. Because of the GI irritating properties of the drugs, oral iron products are also considere d contraindi cated by some clinicians in patients with GI ulcerative diseases

NSG.INTERVEN TION

Adverse effects associated with non-toxic doses are usually limited to mild gastrointestina l upset. Large doses may aggravate peptic ulcer, regional enteritis, and ulcerative colitis. Severe Iron Poisoning:

Store all forms at room temperature. Give between meals with water but may give with meals if gastrointestin al discomfort occurs. Transient staining of mucous membranes and teeth will occur with liquid iron preparation. INDICATION

ONSET OF ACTION

treatment of oral: infections varies caused by susceptible strains of bacteria, post exposure prophylaxis for anthrax, treatment of Helicobacter infections as part of combination therapy.

PEAK OF ACTIO N oral: 1 hour

DURATI ON oral: 6-8 hours

CONTRAINDICA TION these drugs are contraindicated in patients with allergies to penicillin or cephalosporins or other allergens. Penicillin sensitivity tests are available if the patients history of allergy is unclear and a penicillin is a drug of choice. Caution should be exercised in patient with renal disease

NSG.INTERVENTI ON Check culture and sensitivity reports to ensure that this drug of choice for this patient. Ensure that the patient receives the full course of the penicillin as prescribed, in doses around the clock, to increase effectiveness. Be sure to instruct the patient regarding the appropriate regimen and possible adverse effects to enhance the patients knowledge about drug therapy and promote compliance. Monitor the effectiveness of comfort and

safety measure and compliance with the regimen. NAME OF DRUG: Generic Name: Mefena mic Acid Adult: PO 250-500 mg Brand Name: IBUPROF EN (NSAID) MECHANI SM OF ACTION Decreases inflammati on, pain, and fever, probably through inhibition of cyclooxyge nase activity and prostaglan din synthesis INDICATION ONSET OF ACTION oral: 30 min PEAK OF ACTIO N oral: 12 hours DURATI ON oral: 4-6 hours CONTRAINDICA TION Patients in whom aspirin, iodides, or any NSAID has caused allergictype reactions; preexisting renal disease; active ulceration or chronic inflammation of GI tract. ADVERSE EFFECT Cardiovascular Edema; weight gain; CHF; altered BP; palpitations; chest pain; bradycardia; tachycardia. CNS Headache; vertigo; drowsiness; dizziness; insomnia. Dermatologic Rash; urticaria; purpura. EENT Blurred vision; tinnitus; salivation; glossitis. GI Diarrhea; dry mouth; vomiting; abdominal pain; GI bleeding; nausea; constipation; flatulence. Hematologic Decreased hematocrit; bleeding; neutropenia; NSG.INTERVENTI ON Watch out for renal and hepatic impairment, asthma Monitor blood counts and liver function during long term therapy Inform patient drowsiness affect the ability to perform skilled tasks

Relief of moderate pain lasting less than 1 wk; treatment of primary dysmenorrhe a

leukopenia; thrombocytopenia . Hepatic Mild elevations in LFT results. Respiratory Bronchospasm; laryngeal edema; rhinitis; dyspnea; pharyngitis; hemoptysis; shortness of breath. Miscellaneous Autoimmune hemolytic anemia may occur if used long term.
