in confessions, st. augustine (a.d. 354-430) called human friendship a nest of love and gentleness. He wrote of the many joys of christian friendship: To make conversation, to share a joke, to perform mutual acts of kindness, to read together well-written books, to share in trifling and in serious matters, to disagree though without animosity just as a person debates with himself and in the very rarity of disagreement to find the salt of normal harmony, to teach each other something or to learn from one another, to long with impatience for those absent, to welcome them with gladness on their arrival. These and other signs [act] as fuel to set our minds on fire and out of many to forge unity.

The United Methodist Women of Jarrettown are sponsoring a program about domestic abuse to coincide with our Oct. Mission of the Month - Laurel House. This will be on Sunday evening, Oct. 21 at 7 p.m. in the Friendship Center. We will begin with a time of fellowship and a dessert buet. Guest speaker will be Tina Reynolds, a representative from Laurel House. A very interesting feature you will not want to miss, The Empty Place. Please come out and enjoy the fellowship and maybe win a prize. Bring your spouse, neighbor, friends; all are welcome. No admission fee, but if you can, please bring an item for Laurel House: paper products, sanitary items for women, new packages of underwear and socks for women and children, new pillow cases, canned goods, cereal, oatmeal, pasta, size 4 and 5 Pull-ups for toddlers, womens deodorants, gift cards (always welcome) such as Wal-Mart, Target, gas, groceries, drug stores, etc. If you cannot attend we still welcome these items thru October in the box in the Narthex. Domestic abuse aects people of all economic and ethnic backgrounds. Any questions, please contact Joanne Schuler at 215-350-6684 or any member of Martha Circle.

Bring Students To Christ Disciple Students In Christ

It is time to kick-o the new school year! Before we do that, I just want to reflect on the awesome summer that we had! We had TWO great mission trips where we saw the Lord work among our students as well as among the homeowners and communities in which we served. We also spent time getting ice cream, at pool parties, movie nights, beach days and welcoming Pastor Kirby! Check out some of the awesome pictures from our JR HIGH MISSION TRIP TO OCEAN GROVE, NEW JERSEY in July.

BIG NEWS AND UPDATES:

FALL 2012 KICKOFF IS SET FOR SEPTEMBER 9! Put it on your calendar and get pumped as Sunday School and Youth Group returns that Sunday! Be on the lookout for the Fall Calendar! Blessings! Nick Agazarian Youth Pastor jumcyouth@comcast.net 267-243-5490

Park
Its been a little while since our last article about our experiences in Mondauk Park wearing our Pray-4-U shirts. Well, let us assure you that this outreach to the community by our merry little band has been continuing each Saturday. In fact, immediately upon his arrival here at JUMC, Pastor Bob became the newest member of our group. In addition to positive comments in general by those at the Park about our ministry of wearing our red ASK ME TO PRAY FOR YOU T-shirts, we continue to have people approach us with their requests for prayer. Recently, we have offered up prayers for: Strength to help a runner make it through his final lap; Healing from back surgery after multiple previous surgeries were unsuccessful; Support for a family in dealing with the pain of euthanizing a beloved pet; Release from anxiety for a woman who suffers from a hoarding compulsion; Help for a small construction business suffering through these economic times, as well as for the families that are finding life more difficult today; Guidance for a divorced womans son going through drug problems as well as connectional issues with his father. In fact, we have become such a fixture at the park, that one woman asked us about Jack Weber as she had not seen him in a week or two. I assured her that Jack was doing fine and that they must have just missed each other. We invite everyone to join us in this ministry by meeting us any Saturday morning at 9:00 am in the church parking lot. You dont need to be able to walk very far at all; basically, if you can sit on a park bench or a lawn chair (thats how Jack Webber does it), you can help in this ministry. We simply make ourselves available and rely on God for everything else. Dave Filer

Missions
annual mission meaningful and the Alliance is thankful that we are able to volunteer for a month at a time. Sue Diehl has been coordinating this eort for eighteen years at Jarrettown; this year she had a great volunteer in Nancy Bryson, who coordinated the transportation to and from the church to Hope Gardens each day. This was a special challenge this year as the Alliances van finally bit the dust recently and has not yet been replaced. There is ongoing need for household items, personal and household cleaning products donations are welcomed yearround. The Ambler Food Cupboard donations are generous and much appreciated. Julys donations totaled 176 items with August falling right in behind. Bette Derr and her car are certainly getting a workout!!

Want to be the best mom possible?

You are not alone! Mothers Of Preschoolers (MOPS) might be just the thing for you. Every mom is welcomed, accepted and inspired to reach her potential and recognize her influence and purpose within her family - and also that she is part of God's bigger purpose and plan. Moms really do make a better world! Our meeting is held on the 3rd Thursday of every month (Sept. - May) from 9:15-11:15am at Jarrettown United Methodist Church. Our first meeting will be on Thurs., Sept. 20th. Please contact Tara Garrison at bacione@wsucougars.com and #215.205.3716 if you have any questions.

are you looking for a volunteer opportunity?

Help babysit the children while the moms attend the meeting. This service requires only two hours of your time per month. You will be so appreciated by the MOPS members. Please contact Jean Graber at jumckids@comcast.net or #215.646.4129.

STEP OUTSIDE AND VISIT THE JESUS VICTORY GARDEN to see for yourself how God has been good to us and through us. So far in 2012, we have donated 302 pounds of fresh produce to help feed the hungry in the Delaware Valley. The Jesus Victory Garden is one of the ways in which God uses our hands to oer His love and mercy to people who very much need to receive it. Please make a point to ask God to bless our veggies whenever you pull into our parking lot. Our hands have been busy as well with our ongoing monthly sessions for Aid for Friends. Our Tuesday evening group routinely prepares and packages 80 meals per month. Our freezer is available to those who can package meals at home and we are happy to add your meals to ours so that we can help feed the homebound indigent in our area. .and then theres still Philabundance and our monthly trip to sort and package foods to be distributed throughout the Delaware Valley. We have helped make over 3600 pounds of food available in July alone, and just on one trip. Imagine how much more we could put out there with your help. We meet in our parking lot on the 4th Tuesday of every month at 5:00 PM and make the trip. Our July Mission of the Month was to gather donations of school supplies, 90 items of which went to Emmanuel church. Sue Diehl delivered over 70 items to some of the children from the Interfaith network in August. Dawn Jones delivered some to a Philadelphia inner-city high school in need and the rest went to St. Philips via Elaine and George Cahlink. The collection box in the narthex was full to overflowing with the 410 items you gave and we know our donations will be put to good use. In August we housed two families through the Interfaith Housing Alliance. It takes many volunteers to make this
