As we move into 2012, I wonder if the last year may have left you a little stunned? The last 2 years have certainly been interesting for most people. Think back to where you were 2 years ago - I wouldnt be surprised to hear if there have been quite a few twists and turns in your life. Astrology helps us keep track of cycles on a collective and individual level and we are all going to experience some groundbreaking changes in different areas of our lives over the next few years. When I write your forecasts, Im looking at an energy pattern that can be felt collectively and honing in on a particular area for each sun sign. I am conscious that some people who read this will have little or no experience or understanding of astrology and some of you may be more advanced. My aim is to make the yearly forecast an enjoyable read for everyone who comes across it. people who have been negatively affected by these current times and who are struggling in one way or another. Perhaps we have family members or friends who are coming to terms with losing a job, or even their home. Perhaps we have experienced this ourselves. If we are fortunate enough to have missed the current financial tension in our own arena, its impossible to escape the daily bombardment of financial forecasting. This affects us all in some way and whilst we may have started to see the green shoots of recovery in some areas of the world, there will be peaks and troughs over the coming years. This is not a comfortable process, however it does mean that we will find creative ways to make things work for us. It also gives us the benefit of taking a closer look at our lives and the lives of people around us, and make readjustments to our current perspectives.

2012 brings some fundamental changes. Something new is on the horizon. We caught glimpses of what those changes might mean last year, but this year takes us right to the heart of the matter. 2012 marks the peak of a transition; a cross over into a new, exciting, and at times challenging era. Many of us have already been directly affected by the global recession, and it impacts on us all in different ways. Of course some people are doing well, maybe even better than before - our own individual cycles play a part in how we are currently faring. Regardless of our own circumstances, we may know

Im a great believer in compassion specifically grounded compassion, which is really an acknowledgment of other people around us. Its sad this has been so severely lacking that, when we do experience it, we dont actually recognise it any more. When people do things for us, most people subconsciously reach for a motive. If we cant see or fathom a motive, we are immediately suspicious and perhaps even mildly condemning. Our immediate response is distrust because this is not something we experience very often. We have lived in a WIIFM (Whats in it for me) society for way too long and I believe this has eroded our sense of community. I propose a WIIFU (Whats in it for us) society, starting in 2012 - a more integrative and balanced point of view that ensures we meet not only our own needs, but the needs of the

2012 Bringing Compassion back into Fashion!

people with whom we come into contact day to day. 2012 potentially brings compassion and kindness back into vogue on a humanitarian and global level. Actually, I think this trend has started already check out yearofkindness (you can click on the link) a blog I found particularly inspirational. Written by an Aries with a mission, she recently spoke about her thoughts and experiences whilst promoting kindness. In her post titled Kindness Army (very Aries indeed!) she said;
I cant quite believe that I am now almost six months into my Year of Kindness. Seems like only yesterday I was stumbling through my very first day, offering smiles to strangers and receiving very few in return. I didnt like all the negativity, selfishness and cruelty I saw all around me. After a long time of feeling frustrated and helpless, I decided I would do something about it. A Pivotal Point

2012 has stood out for most astrologers as being a pivotal year due to Pluto and Uranus coming together. These 2 major planets form a number of exact tense aspects over the next few years and 2012 begins this process. How to use this guide

You can, of course, read your guide from beginning to the end if you wish. I have written your yearly report in sections and there are different ways you can utilize this report throughout the year. Part 1 looks at the major trends for your sun sign incorporating the dominant themes from the beginning of 2012 throughout the year. You will also find links to various articles (they look like this Link) describing some of the planets I mention in your report - read them as you go through, or come back to them later. They will give you a better idea about what I have based your report on, and give you a deeper insight into the planets. The summary section (Part 2) breaks down your themes for the year into 3 main areas - love and relationships, money and finance and career and status - You can get a better idea about what to expect in each of these particular areas of your life by reading this section. Part 3 covers the effects of the main planetary movements as they move from one sign to another (technically termed ingresses) and eclipses on your sign in 2012. I have focussed on Neptune, Saturn and Jupiter who all move into different signs this year. The eclipse section highlights the potential affects of the eclipse for your sun sign. (You can also refer to the calendars in part 4 to get a clearer idea about the timing of these events throughout the year.)

Part 4 contains the moon calendar highlighting 4 phases of the moon each month with corresponding dates, signs and degrees. Each phase is significant depending on what sign it is in and I take this into account when I write your monthly astrology report and overview on AstroArtisan. You will also find the eclipses highlighted on the moon calendar. The direct, station and retrograde calendar shows times when Mercury, Venus and Mars are moving backwards and forwards and the point they stop (station) in between. (There is an explanation of the different phases of these movements in this section) Again, these will all have bearing on us in some way and I have focussed on these particular planets (the personal planets) - as their motion is likely to have a big impact. The final page in your report is your 2012 Life and Living Inspiration Card. This was written for your sign and encompasses the energy and themes for you in 2012. The Transition

This is another important year for you Aries. Last year you began to notice a change in the way you saw the world around you and adjusted yourself accordingly. In other words, you may have made some big changes that could have taken you and everyone around you by surprise. Last year saw you pushing boundaries and even pushing past some of them, which is perhaps something you didnt believe you were capable of doing. It was at this point that you may have begun to realise that you had more kudos, more energy and more potential than you thought. All this change, whilst exciting, may have been met with a certain amount of restriction. So while you were ready and raring to take on the world, there could have been something that dampened your enthusiasm. Its possible that this block could have come from within yourself, as you may have wondered if you were capable of keeping up with the changes. You are going to find that this year, especially towards the end of the year, the block will be removed and there are no more restrictions, allowing you to move full steam ahead!

Aries are the warriors of the zodiac. Outgoing, head strong, confident and veering towards a tendency to be highly reactive, you go through life energetic and competitive with an in it to win it attitude. Your enthusiasm is infectious and your ability to rally a group of people is unrivalled. People may say youre a little overconfident sometimes, and some Aries have a tendency to speak before they have thought about what to say, but this is part of your charming enthusiasm to get your point across. This year youll get plenty of opportunity to exercise those parts of your character that call for taking the initiative, being courageous and speaking your mind.

Last year (2011) something of monumental importance occurred for Aries. Actually, this may be an understatement as Uranus, the planet associated with change, unexpected quirks, revolution and innovation, went into your sign. Uranus had visited Aries in 2010 but it was a brief encounter that year as this planet went back into Pisces and even though you may have felt the stirrings of change, there was an element of caution underlying this. You may not have felt it was such a big deal at the time, but look back and youll see that something turned around and you may have found yourself in a very different situation or position. In 2011, Uranus travelled into Aries and will stay there for the next 7 years. If you have seen a different side of yourself, perhaps more confident in some areas and less confident in others, the theme continues to revolve around sudden changes in direction. If you felt differently about yourself and/or other people saw you in a whole new light, Uranus is associated with this type of change. Strangely enough, whilst you were ready to embrace this new you and you may have felt like striding ahead, there was something in your life that may have been holding you back.

Pushing Forward Pulling Back

The reins were on for one reason or another and this could have added an extra tension to your life. Saturn, the planet associated with restrictions, keeping a lid on things, hard work and discipline, has a tendency to pull us back giving us an opportunity to take stock. This planet has been opposing your sign since 2009. This wasnt such a bad thing considering the amount of energy in your chart last year and perhaps it gave you the opportunity to deal with what I can only describe as a highly charged influence, in phases. Saturn will no longer impede on any progress you want to make in 2012 and whilst there is still an element of restraint and patience required up until the end of 2012, it will dawn on you that you have a no-holds-barred opportunity to really get your teeth into something. Saturn also gave you ample time to sit back and observe in some situations, which may have felt particularly restricting, but gave you another perspective. Any frustrations and blockages you may have experienced last year will now become a very distant memory. Uranus is really going to shake things up and Im going to write in more detail about this planet as it holds some important changes in store for you over the coming 7 years.

UranUs Uranus is one of what we call the outer planets. These planets pack a hefty punch wherever they are in our chart - they are the transformers, up heavers, movers and shakers on a grand scale. I like to call them the planets that can move a mountain as they have the potential of bringing big change and energy shifts when they impact our charts. Out of all the outer planets, Uranus is the most unpredictable, quirky, strange and electric. Whenever I think about Uranus, I think about the shape and mechanism of this planet and how it operates in our solar system. Uranus is the only planet in the solar system we know about that tilts on a weird axis. Uranus topsy-turvy orbit really describes how this planet works in astrology. So think about a weird and wonderful, upside down and unexpected energy affecting your life and well, anything is possible and anything can happen. Uranus travelling through Aries is a big deal for all of us, but its an especially big deal for you and if you havent started to feel the changes that are currently zapping your life yet, this may be the year that a bolt from the blue shows you something very different. 2012 will be an interesting year for Aries as any restrictions you faced last year (and Im sure there were a fair few) start to lift. If youre feeling supercharged and ready to go, fantastic, this is where Uranus energy will really make a difference. Uranus encompasses innovation and swift (sometimes shocking) change, so if there has been an area in your life that has been stagnant, you are due for a shake up. Change requires a certain amount of bravery and courage and this is your forte Aries. You have the opportunity to show everyone around you how this is done and you will be able to tap into an innate part of who you are in 2012. Youre naturally courageous and up for challenges. manage to leap over the chasm and charge ahead meeting any challenges even if there is a little fear involved. Those changes will continue throughout 2012 and beyond for years to come. Even if you are one of those people who dont feel comfortable with change, Uranus working its way through your sign will shake you out of the doldrums and make you feel alive. And if any sign relishes a bit of a challenge, Id say Aries is more than capable of using Uranus energy to full advantage. You may have experienced this energy in fits and starts due to heavy Saturn limitations. Saturn didnt block Uranus, but acted as the overseer - making sure you didnt go overboard in your actions and decisions, and giving you a sense of balance (although you may not have appreciated this at the time). Now you are ready to go full throttle and people may not recognise the new emerging you. With all the changes occurring on a level likely to be visible to yourself and the people around you, there are also undercurrents at work which will infuse your everyday life in a very subtle way. This is about Neptune moving into Pisces in February 2012. There is potential to tap into Neptunes all encompassing vision whist you work with the excitement and challenges of a new era.

neptUne This planet in astrology is associated with higher visions, dreams, fantasy, illusion and all things mystical and unseen. Neptune settles into Pisces this year for 14 years and this is where Neptune operates best as this planet rules the sign of Pisces. Neptune is diffuse and difficult to grasp, but if you are naturally inclined towards non-linear perspectives, then Neptune in Pisces is likely to be an energy that will be a joy to work with. In some ways, this planet acted a little out of character when it was in the sign of Aquarius as the 2 have quite different agendas and ways of operating. With Neptune back in its honourable and rightful place from February 2012, we could see themes regarding compassion, idealism, romance, understanding, equality and tolerance becoming prevalent in our lives. Undercurrents and Unseen Forces

Aries, Neptune is operating in the background of your life for you from Feb 2012 possibly calming your thoughts and bringing a strong inner belief. Amidst all the turmoil and change, deep down you may feel that there is a higher force at work and Neptunes presence may leave you with the feeling that you are being fuelled by something which is quite transcendent. I would say if you start to have any recurring dreams or you sense an underlying expansive vision operating at a level you may not be consciously aware of, acknowledge this and allow it to drive your actions. You may find it tempers some of your more rash decisions. If you do find that you are encountering people or situations that seem a little bit diffuse and out of the ordinary, they will act in the background of your life. It may all seem a little weird and non-sensical, but just keep on trekking.

Neptune can either bring a sea of calm or turbulent waves of confusion, depending on where it is located in our charts. Neptune can also take us to a higher realm and level of understanding. Whilst you will have a busy and action-packed year pushing boundaries, personally and professionally, you will need some inner resolve and, to a extent, a belief that you can rise to any challenges that present themselves. Underlying your actions and choices, there may very well be a feeling that everything will unfold as it should and this will be really helpful to you throughout the year. This will also be of great support in helping you put your visions into action and if you have spent a lot of time dreaming about a better future, these dreams will fuel your objectives helping you to make them come true.

Aries, you may have found that you were quite lucky last year in regards to your earnings, whether this was from employment, business or any other stream. Money may have appeared just when you needed it most. If it has been a tight year, you survived somehow and managed to find the means to get by. In some way, it may have almost felt like you had a guardian angel looking after you. 2012 brings more of this good fortune your way and it is likely that this is linked to your career, work or your public role. Jupiters influence gave you a certain amount of luck (and protection) last year, and this will continue into 2012.

JUpIter Jupiters expansion can bring rewards and inflates whatever it touches. Jupiter is seen as the luck planet by some as it tends to harness positivity and bring happy fortuitous circumstances into our lives. Jupiter inflates whatever it touches think largesse and growth and we have a good idea about the potentials of this planet. It has been said that Jupiter in a certain area of our charts can even literally expand our waistlines!! Jupiter is the largest planet in the solar system and has an immense gravity field that deflects comets from hitting the earth giving us a certain amount of protection. There is also an element of protection associated with Jupiter in astrology.

You can certainly expect more expansion in 2012 it is a good year to put a little money aside if you can. As I wrote earlier, you may have felt a certain amount of protection from mid 2011 in regards to your finances. You may not have become a millionaire, but you were certainly able to make ends meet and perhaps had a little left over to play with. If you havent seen this yet, and you need a turnaround in this area of your life, there are more opportunities available for you in the first 6 months of 2012.

Saturn leaves your opposite sign by the end of 2012 so although you may still feel the edge of Saturns opposition, it shouldnt feel as restrictive as last yeargreat news because in 2012 you are ready to leave some kind of mark on the world. This really is a continuation of 2011s similar energy, except we have some pretty powerful planets coming together that are likely to bring in some big changes for your career and your reputation. We have already looked at Uranus - the weird, wonderful (and sometimes unpredictable) planet - but Pluto is moving across the area associated with your work, career and status. This is where I think Aries will see the real changes in the coming years and defines you as the one who can potentially bring change and something new in terms of how you present yourself and what you have to offer from here on in. You may have reached a crossroads last year in regards to your career or how you present yourself in public - actually, your image may have changed so much that people viewed you in a very different light.

Continuing Themes for Aries - Developing Strength

Youre hitting a powerful point in 2012 and this will continue all the way up to 2015 and actually beyond those dates though from now until 2015 your sign is being especially highlighted. Saturn is the planet associated with grafting, hard work and daily grind it can feel restrictive and cumbersome, but helps us to really hone in and focus on what we need to get the job done, and get the job done well.

plUto the DemoteD planet - stIll makIng a BIg ImpaCt Pluto is the slowest moving planet and takes 248 years to complete a circle around the zodiac. You may have heard that Pluto recently got demoted and lost its planetary status, but this makes no difference to the overhauling and transformative effect this planet has when we look at astrology cycles. Pluto transforms and it transforms because it digs. Whatever area of your life Pluto affects is in for an overhaul period. Unlike Uranus, which tends to work in a sporadic, chaotic, lightening flash way, Pluto takes its time, is thorough and leaves no stone unturned. This planet uproots, unearths and through this process shifts our foundations from the core. This is the transforming effect of Pluto.

Pluto Transforming Your Status

Pluto is affecting your public status and reputation this encompasses your work, image, vocation and the you that people see out in the world Pluto has brought some changes here since 2008. There were, however, other factors that may have held you back or perhaps made you look before your leapt. Pluto comes into contact with Uranus twice in 2012 in an exact aspect in June and September. This energy is tense and driven, and when 2 movers and shakers like Pluto and Uranus come together we can expect nothing less than change. Actually thats an understatement, we are talking big shifts and these two planets connection will really leave you wondering what has hit you. But dont panic! This could be fantastic for you. We all need an element of tension to get things done - tension drives us to achieve our best and gives us the impetus to succeed. Pluto in tense aspect to Uranus is a big driving energy. Think about something bubbling under the surface ready to explode outwards, and you have a good idea about Pluto in tense aspect (square) to Uranus. Aries, these planets are impacting your public persona, your appearance and your working life and career. Uranus will bring sudden and unexpected occurrences, perhaps in the way people view you, and Pluto will be the transformative influence in your career and status. This is powerful.

I think there is the potential for you to thrive on this tension and actually do really well from it. Jupiter - the expansive planet impacting your wealth and security until June 2012 - makes a positive connection to Pluto at the beginning of 2012. Youll be working hard to make things happen, jumping obstacles, wheeling and dealing and living life in the fast lane. There is the potential here to not only become more financially secure, but also to create long-lasting and deep change in your personal financial picture. Wealth is a relative concept, so a million pounds may not be your objective, but whatever wealth and security mean to you, itll be a hot topic throughout the year and you are likely to do very well in this area. These alignments also have the added benefit of giving you a boost in confidence and the feeling that you can move a mountain.

A Sticky Point Becomes Unstuck - relationships

Its possible in recent years that you felt hemmed in or curtailed in some way. Someone may have acted as the proverbial stick in the mud. This may have been an issue with a manager, a partner, husband, wife, lover - actually anyone that you relate to on a daily basis. If you have been striving to find a middle ground or a sense of equilibrium, this probably felt strenuous and tiring. Someone may have wanted you to commit to something or prove yourself to them, and you may have found yourself rebelling against this. These feelings will ebb and flow throughout 2012 but wont feel so difficult this year and towards the latter part of the year, you will find that the feeling of restriction lifts. For now, you are still trying to find the balancing point in your relationships. This is, in part due to Saturn travelling through your opposite sign until October 2012.

satUrn Father tIme Saturn is the planet associated with restrictions, lessons and time. It also lends structure and discipline to the area of our chart it impacts. This planet is a bit like Father Time and can bring a feeling of delays and hold ups. Whichever area Saturn is impacting gives us the effect that everything has slowed down. The positive side of Saturn is that it stabilises, as well as teaches us patience through what can seem like a long and arduous climb. Although the impact of this planet feels frustrating, in the long run we may find that we take a more structured approach to the area it impacts. Saturn is also associated with the wisdom and patience of maturity.

Saturn has been opposing your sign since October 2009. The good news is that by the latter part of 2012 (October to be precise) any restrictive situations or circumstances you have encountered over the last 2.5 years will ease up and youll feel a lot lighter and less imposed upon. At this point, you will really have the opportunity to come into your own. If you are not in a serious commitment yet, 2012 could bring you a long term alliance - this may very well be linked to love. If you are partnered up already, and the relationship has been a little fraught over the last few years, tensions should start to dissipate. Saturn, the planet associated with discipline, restrictions and commitments, enters the area of the chart associated with money (other peoples) and legacies; this means there is the potential to enter into some serious discussions about money. There is also an eclipse in the same area of your chart in 2012 and eclipses mark turning points and show beginnings and endings. This may come about as a change or at least shift for Aries in relation to your one-to-one partnerships, and if you have been seeking a commitment, you may have the opportunity to do so in 2012. If you are in a long term relationship that has hung on by a thread, It could be make or break time or this relationship could be transformed in order for you to start again. This is about how you merge what you have and what investments (time, energy and money) you make in collaboration with another. The changes occurring to your work and image may have meant that another area of your life has been put to one side. You may be focussed so much on the outer world that you forget to nurture yourself. Its important to find the balance this year and in the coming years, so keep this in mind as you go out and conquer the world.

If it has been difficult over the last couple of years, hang in there for a little bit longer - the latter part of the year will prove to be easier. You may have felt a certain amount of tension in your relationships or even slightly held back and imposed upon. Whilst these issues are still a theme this year, they are gradually becoming less relevant in your life and by the end of the year you will find that any problems in this area begin to fade. If you were looking for that special someone last year, its possible that any relationships formed have felt a little restricting and cumbersome, or perhaps you have been raring to go and your partner has been the opposite cautious and a little bit stuck in your eyes, curbing some of your impulses and needs. This will even itself out towards the end of the year and youll feel a lot freer with the ability to move ahead without restriction. If you are single and looking for love this year, there is a good chance this may come your way and it could be serious! Youre ultra-dynamic at the moment and some people will find this very attractive. Its quite possible while youre out and about moving and shaking, you could meet someone who will feature in your life quite significantly.

Money and Finance

This year it all becomes very serious in regards to your financial situation and you will be looking at creating some financial security. This is especially relevant at the end of 2012 as you start to get your finances in order. All in all, 2012 is an especially positive year for making money and you will have lots of opportunity to build on a nest egg. Try to put a little away if you can as you will want to think about making an investment in 2013 (its always good to look a little further ahead). There is the potential for you to receive a windfall this year and this could be down to recognition for the hard work you have undertaken in recent years, or sheer luck. Enjoy it, but take into account that it may be a good idea to think about saving, as this period is so fruitful for you. You will want to make sure that, should a rainy day occur, you have a little shelter prepared.

Career, Public Image and Status

This is where you will feel the most changes and they will come in fits and starts throughout the year. Those changes are likely to be far reaching, and it may feel like someone has put a rocket under you in some respects. You will be using this energy to take you to a higher position. Whether this be in your social circle, career, club, or associations, its possible you will be the one having brilliant ideas and instigating an overhaul in the structure. If you do not have a direct influence in your sphere of work, your presence will most certainly create change in some way. You may find that you are drawing a lot of attention this year and if you are feeling especially rebellious, you could find yourself being challenged. Whilst you dealt with the restrictions you came across last year, you learnt a lot about compromise and finding a middle ground. You will take everything you have learnt into 2012 and beyond and use it to your advantage. This is a stellar year for you in many ways and whilst there will inevitably be challenges and frustrations, your drive to overcome them will win out.

As I have mentioned before, we all have our own individual birth charts (the still image captured at the time of our birth) which show where the moving (transiting) planets are in relation to the still image.

oUter planets ChangIng sIgns anD eClIpses 2012 Neptune moves into Pisces 3 Feb 2012 Saturn moves into Scorpio 5 Oct 2012 Jupiter moves into Gemini 11 June 2012 Planets changing signs mark important points in their cycles and change the flow of energy, moving us in a different direction. The personal planets, Mercury, Venus and Mars, and the moon and sun move fairly quickly in comparison with the outer planets, so the quicker moving planets show the ebb and flow of our daily lives whilst they make different aspects in the chart. The outer planets changing signs are indicative of significant shifts and trends that can last many years. Last year, Neptune went into Pisces for the first time in 164 years and went back into Aquarius at the end of 2011. From February, Neptune will stay in Pisces for 14 years. Jupiter went into Taurus mid 2011 (where it will remain until June 2012) and will move into Gemini, and Uranus continued its stay in Aries and will be there for the next 7 years. Pluto has been in Capricorn since 2008 and will stay there for 13 years. Saturn has been in Libra since October 2009 and will move into Scorpio in October 2012. All these changes are significant and affect us all individually.

neptune has been affecting your friendships and group associations over the last 14 years and you may have found yourself attracted to a more diffuse or creative set of people. Alternatively, you could have found that you became increasingly involved in organisations that had an idealistic slant and you brought your drive to champion a cause. From 2012, Neptune will move into the background of your life, but this doesnt make it any less potent. You will take the idealism you have developed in the last 14 years and make this work for you in other ways. While outwardly you will be focussing on your ambitions and goals, you will perhaps develop and refine your goals with an underlying urge to bring about your ideals and make a difference to your life whilst having a positive impact on the world in some way. Saturn has added some restriction for you in the last couple of years and if you have felt like exploding at times, especially in regards to your relationships, the pressure is off by November. Saturn moves into a more comfortable position for you but the discipline required will be about your finances and shared earnings. I mentioned earlier on in your report that you may want to start saving if you can this year. By the end of the year there is a good chance that you will want to make a financial commitment. This is also about commitment in relationships and sharing your life in some way with another person. Jupiter as I have mentioned throughout your report, is giving you an expansive edge as far as finances are concerned for the first 6 months of 2012. After this point Jupiter moves on and will begin to impact on your communications. You will find that you will be very busy! Sending emails, writing, giving presentations - the list goes on and during the initial few weeks in June you may find yourself forming new partnerships which will be helpful to you throughout the year. You will be meeting lots of new people and generating discussion, picking up pieces of information as you go along and generally learning a lot more in 2012. This is an exciting and extremely busy time.

Jupiter Continued... One small caution Aries. think before you speak and ensure that any pressing conversations you need to have this year are balanced. Aries can be pretty headstrong and stubborn at times. This energy can be great for harnessing and driving forward any ideas or projects you have, but in the last few years you may have noticed that the way in which you communicate and express yourself to your partners has changed. You are now perhaps thinking more carefully about how you come across. This is really positive and will help you with your negotiation skills. All of this will ultimately lead to people taking you very seriously.

Mars retrogrades every 2.5 years and can bring about a time we are being pulled back a little in our efforts. Mars is active and associated with warrior type energies. It is what drives and fuels us to take action, so when it is retrograde we may be a little reticent in going forward. This could affect your routines and scheduling, and during this time it may be a good idea to go back over old ground and complete old and outstanding projects. If you are feeling below par, take a bit of a breather during this phase. Mars usually spends just over a month in each sign, however Mars will spend 8 months travelling through Virgo. Rather than going full speed ahead, this Mars retrograde may pull you back. Outwards energies become inverted. Aries is ruled by the planet Mars, so these dates are especially important for you. During this time, you may decide to go back to something from the past that needs finishing off. Mars started its retrograde shadow period in November 2011 and will retrograde in January 2012, continuing its retrograde motion until April 2012 in the sign of Virgo. This means that you will perhaps take a step back in terms of your routines and structure. Your work may also be affected during this time, so if youre not feeling like your usual self, take into account that Mars will move forward eventually. If you are in a position to take the back seat at this time, this phase will be the ideal time to do so. You may also find creative ways in asserting yourself.

Mars retrograde

Venus retrograde

Venus will also retrograde this year in Gemini. Venus retrogrades mark a time when we rethink our relations. Venus is also associated with beauty, cosmetics, fine tailoring and anything aesthetic and pleasing to the eye. During the retrograde phase, its advisable not to go for any cosmetic treatments, get a new hair cut or buy anything that you think may suit you. There is the potential to look at it after the retrograde and not like what you see. If you do find yourself going over old ground, especially in relation to your love life, this is a good time to do so. We can use a Venus retrograde to reflect on what we find beautiful and how we conduct the relationships in our lives. Aries, this could mark a time when you are reviewing your relationships. Venus is related to love and during this period, you may find yourself reminiscing about the past with your partner or perhaps thinking more about the past in relation to your partner. There is something here about going back over old ground and this could come up in the form of memories or ideas you have previously held about your relationships. This does not have to be an unpleasant experience and if your current relationship has been going off the rails, you may reminisce about how wonderful it used to be and look at ways to bring back the magic. You may also experience the return of past lovers.

Mercury retrograde

I always make note of Mercury retrogrades. Its usual to find that communications go a little haywire during these times. Eclipses mark turning points in our lives, they also show beginnings, endings and potential changes in direction. The eclipses in Gemini and Sagittarius bring everyones focus to communications, from local to global level. The eclipses in May, June and late November occur in the part of your solar chart that deals with communications from local to global level. This sits very well with the themes for you in 2012. Its a busy and active year and you will find yourself going backwards and forwards, talking to lots of people, networking and communicating. There is also the opportunity to travel, either locally or a bit further afield. Eclipses affect us all in different ways, and their effect is dependent on a lot of different factors in our individual chart, however - we can look at the themes and position of an eclipse to get an idea about how this may impact you in 2012. All planets station, direct and retrograde throughout the year. The personal planets Mercury, Venus and Mars have been illustrated in the calendars on the next pages. Pre-retrograde (shadow period) The pre retrograde phase (or shadow) marks a time when we begin to slow down. We may feel the tug of the planets energy as it prepares to go retrograde. This period allows us to gradually ease into the retrograde phase. Station Retrograde We can think of the station as a tipping point this is where the planet stops before it goes retrograde. If we think about standing on a ledge as we are about to tip over, the moment before we fall is perhaps the most tense and this is the feeling we may have at the stationary point. Retrograde The planet is now moving backwards (or we have the illusion of this motion from our positioning on earth) and this is usually a time where we go back to something or work in a different way with the planets energy. Station Direct The planet stops again in preparation to move forward after this point the planet is in direct motion. Post retrograde This period (also called a shadow) eases us out of the retrograde phase as we slowly gather momentum The energy may still be a little diffuse until we move past this phase. Perhaps look at the calendars, note the planets motions and see if you can feel the effects as we go through each phase.
