SCHEME OF EXAMINATION

THE MAHARAJA SAYAJIRAO UNIVERSITY OF BARODA

The examination shall be conducted according to the

Part II. Interview for personality Test of such candidates
as may be called by the Commission, carrying a maximum
of 200 marks.

ENGLISH ONLY.

History

Candidates must write the papers in their own hand. In


no circumstances, will they be allowed the help of a
scribe to write the answers for them.

The Commission have discretion to fix qualifying marks


in any or all the subjects of the examination.

If a candidates handwriting is not easily legible, a


deduction will be made on this account, from the total
marks otherwise accruing to him.

Marks will not be allotted for mere superficial knowledge.


Credit will be given for orderly, effective and exact
expression combined with due economy of words in all
subjects of the examination.

In the question papers wherever necessary, questions


involving the Metric System of Weights and Measures
only will be set.

Candidates should use only International form of Indian


numerals (e.g. 1,2,3,4,5,6 etc.) while answering question
papers.

Candidates are permitted to bring and use battery


operated pocket calculators for answering papers in
this examination. Loaning or inter-cahnging of
calculators in the Examination Hall is not permitted.

Interview for Personality Test : The candidate will be


interviewed by a Board of competent and unbiased
observers who will have before them a record of his
career. The object of the interview is to assess his
suitability for the posts for which he has competed.
Special attention will be paid in the Personality Test to
assessing the candidate's capacity for leadership,
initiative and intellectual curiosity, tact and other social
qualities, mental and physical energy, powers of practical
application, integrity of character and aptitude for
adapting themselves to the field life.

Instructions to the Candidates for filling online
Applications
Candidates are required to apply Online using the Website www. upsconline.nic.in
Salient Features of the system of Online Application Form
are given hereunder :
Detailed instructions for filling up Online applications are
available on the above mentioned Website.
Candidates will be required to complete the On-line
Application Form containing two stages viz. Part-I arid
Part-II as per the instructions available in the above
mentioned site through drop down menu.
The candidates applying Online are required to pay a
reduced fee of Rs.200/-(Rupees Two Hundred only)
(excepting Female/SC/ST/Physically Handicapped
candidates who are exempted from payment of fee)
either by remitting the money in any branch of SB! by
cash, or by using net banking facility of SBI or by using
any Visa/Master Credit/Debit Card.
Before start filling up Online Application, a candidate
must have his/her photograph and signature duly
scanned in the .jpg format only in such a manner that
each file should not exceed 40 KB and should not be less
then 3 KB each size.
The Online Application (Part i and Part II) can be filled up to
15th October, 2012 till 11.59 p.m., after which link will be
disabled.
Candidates are strongly advised to apply online well in
time without waiting for the last date for submission of
online application.

Note : For candidates with 55% and above in EQ-I, EQ-II is


relaxable at the discretion of the Commission.
Note-1 : As per Ministry of Human Resource Development
Notification No. 44 dated 01.03.1995 published in
Gazette of India edition dated 08.04.1995, the Degree
obtained through open Universities/Distance
Education Mode needs to be recognized by Distance
Education Council, IGNOU. Accordingly, unless such
Degrees had been recognized for the period when the
candidates acquired the relevant qualification, they will
not be accepted for the purpose of Educational
Qualification.
Note-II : Candidates who have not acquired/will not acquire
the educational qualification as on 01.08.2012 will not
be eligible and need not apply.
Note-III : All candidates should enclose self-attested
copies of the relevant Certificates such as Mark
sheets, Provisional Certificate, etc. as proof of having
acquired the minimum educational qualification on or
before the 01.08.2012 failing which the candidature of
such candidates will be cancelled by tho Commission
summarily.

NOTE-IV :
Canvassing in any form will disqualify the candidates.
PART-II :
PERSONALITY TEST/INTERVIEW: 100 Marks
NOTE-I :
Only those candidates who secure in the written
examination the minimum qualifying marks as may
be fixed by the Commission at their discretion, will be
eligible at least to appear at the Interview. The interview
will be held at the Commissions Regional /SubRegional Offices or at any other place as decided by
the Commission.
NOTE-II :
SC/ST candidates called for interview will be paid TA
as per Govt. Orders. However, no TA is payable to any
candidate for appearing in the written examination.
SYLLABUS
Paper-I :
a) General Hindi
100 marks (Objective type)
b) General English 100 marks (Objective type)
The questions will be designed to test the candidates
understanding of the language correct use of
words,phrases and idioms and ability to write language correctly, precisely and effectively.
Paper-II :
Translation and Essay: 200 Marks (Conventional
Type)
The paper will contain two passages for translationone passage for translation from Hindi to English and
one passage for translation from English to Hindi,
and an Essay each in Hindi and English to test the
candidates translation skills and their ability to write
as well as comprehend the two languages correctly,
precisely and effectively.

NOTE-I :
Paper-I will consist of Objective Type- Multiple choice
questions only. Paper-II shall be evaluated in respect
of only those candidates, who attain a minimum
qualifying standard in Paper-I as may be fixed at the
discretion of the Commission.
NOTE-II :
Mobile Phones, Calculators or any other electronic /
electrical device are strictly banned in the Examination
Hall. Candidates must net, therefore, bring Mobile
Phone, Calculators or any other electronic / electrical
device inside the Examination premises. Possession
of these items, whether in use or not, will be
considered as use of unfair means in the
Examination and appropriate action will be taken by
the Commission against such candidates, as per
extant policy of the Commission.
NOTE-III :
There will be negative marking of 0.25 marks for each
wrong answer in Paper-I. Candidates are, therefore,
advised to keep this in mind while answering the

The Commission uses standard application form


for all its examinations. Therefore, please read the
instructions given in the Notice of Examination and
also given below carefully before filling up the
application form, in your own interest. Please attach
photocopies of relevant Testimonials/Certificates
with the Application and submit to the concerned
Regional Office of the Commission, as indicated in
Para-7 of the Notice
