The Manchester Area Chamber of Commerce has named Sharon and Carl Curtis volunteers of the year. Along with around 20 other volunteers they will be honored at a banquet hosted by the Manchester Community Resource Center. They will be nominees for four special awards to be made then. Manchester is a wonderful family-friendly community that is incredible for its volunteer activity, Sharon Curtis said. According to Janet Larson, president of the Chamber of Commerce, the Curtises were recognized for a variety of contributions. Sharon started Worth Repeating, a nonprofit resale shop located in the mill building, and served as treasurer of the Manchester Historical Society. Carl has been president of the Historical Society and chair of the Gazebo Concerts for many years. He has also taken it upon himself to maintain the Welcome to Manchester signs posted on the roads. The Curtises joined the Chamber of Commerce after starting a bed and breakfast on Sharon Hollow Road, nearly 20 years ago. Every business should join the Chamber, Sharon said. When she retired from inn keeping and started the resale shop, with the help of many volunteers, she brought that into the Chamber as well. Now the Curtises are retiring from retirement, Sharon said. The Marketplace:
When the idea for a Taste of Chelsea emerged in 2011 for the first time, its organizers were concerned about whether or not there would be adequate support from both the local restaurants and the local community. Those concerns were quickly
laid to rest however, as our local Chelsea restaurants warmly embraced the concept of raising money for the St. Louis Center by providing delicious samples of their food, coffee and desserts. The event became a sell-out, as more than 200 people attended the inaugural culinary event held in the parish hall of St. Mary Catholic Church.
This years second Taste of Chelsea event will begin at 5:30 p.m. on Oct. 6, and will once again be held at St. Mary Parish at 14200 E. Advance tickets for the event are $35 each or $40 at the door, with a $5 discount for seniors 65 years of age or older. Children 5 and under are free. Father Enzo Addari, Administrator of St. Louis Center says he expects the event
to grow in size and scale. This years event is expected to be even bigger and better then last years, as Village Motors Chrysler-Dodge-Jeep of Chelsea has signed on to be our corporate sponsor, he said. We are truly grateful to everyone in the community who has agreed to help us this year.
