LAST WEEKS GAME

Game 4 CARDINALS 24, Dolphins 21 (OT) September 30, 2012 University of Phoenix Stadium (60,183)
The Cardinals improved to 4-0 for the first time since opening 1974 with 7 straight wins. But it was certainly not easy. Against a tough Miami squad they trailed 13-0 at the half and by 7 in the final minutes when they were twice down to their final play. But despite a sizable statistical disparity, AZ delivered when it was most needed. Many of the key plays were delivered by WR Andre th Roberts who had a career-best 118 yards & 2 TDs on 6 catches. He was instrumental in giving Cards their 8 straight home win (5 in OT) as well th as the 500 victory in franchise history. Led by rookie QB Ryan Tannehill (431 passing yards) & WR Brian Hartline (club-record 253 yards), the Dolphins finished with a 480-297 edge in total net yards. They th 13-0 at half on two Dan Carpenter FGs led sandwiched between a 1-yard Jorvorskie Lane TD plunge on 4 -n-goal. They missed a chance to extend it nd on the initial drive of the 2 half when Carpenter missed from 51. The AZ offense then found the end zone rd when Kevinth Kolb hit Larry Fitzgerald on 3 -n-goal from the 3 to cap an 8-play, 53-yard drive. It remained 137 until the 4 when the Cards took over at their own 19 with 11:12 to play. A 33-yard pass to TE Rob Housler moved it to the MIA46 and from there Kolb & Roberts connected on a scoring strike that made it 14-13 AZ. It then got interesting. Tannehill hit Legedu Naanee with a completion to the AZ 19 but the WR fumbled and CB Patrick Peterson returned it 60 yards to the MIA3. Two plays later though, Kolb looked for Fitzgerald just inside the right pylon but CB Sean Smith picked it off in the end zone. On the next snap, Tannehill hit a wide open Hartline for an 80-yard score than put Miami back up 7 after the 2-point conversion. Things later looked quite bleak when the Dolphins had the ball at the AZ41 with 3:00 to go. But LB Daryl Washington came up huge, bursting through the middle to sack Tannehill and force a fumble that DE Vonnie Holliday recovered at therd AZ49. The Cards had new life but it was imperiled when Kolb was sacked on the next 2 plays setting up th a 3 -n-18 at the AZ41. Back-to-back completions to Roberts - a 16-yarder followed by a 9-yarder on 4 -n-2 th kept alive a drive that reached the 15 with :42 left. After 3 incompletions, the Cards faced a 4 -n-10 from the 15 with :29 left. Kolb again found Roberts just inside the end st zone sending the game to OT. AZ got the ball rd first in the extra period but went 3-n-out. Miami picked up a 1 down, but on 3 -n-6 from their own 38 Paris Lenon pressured Tannehill leading toth Kerry Rhodes INT that set AZ up at the MIA47. The Cards moved to a the 28 where Jay Feely notched his 6 career OT FG from 46 yards out. DOLPHINS CARDINALS Team Qtr. CARDINALS & RAMS THE LAST MEETING

CARDINALS 23, Rams 20 November 27, 2011 Edward Jones Dome (56,029)
The Cardinals won for the 3 time in 4 games and improved to 4-7 for the season with a record-setting effort. RB Beanie Wells rushed for a franchise-record 228 yards including career-best runs of 53 and 71 yards and Patrick Peterson tied the NFL single-season record for punt return TDs with his 80-yarder in the rd 3 quarter. Rookie LB Sam Acho came up big defensively as he recorded two pivotal sacks, forced two th fumbles and recovered another. The victory was Arizonas 7 straight win in St. Louis, the longest such road win streak in franchise history. The Rams opened the scoring with an 88-yard punt return TD from Nick Miller, who joined the team on rd Thursday. John Skelton again started at QB in place of Kevin Kolb (toe/foot) and on the 3 play of the next drive overthrew Larry Fitzgerald leading to a Rod Hood INT. St. Louis took over at the AZ31 and advanced to the 16 but Acho sacked Sam Bradford forcing a fumble that Paris Lenon recovered to end the threat. Late st in the 1 quarter, Wells raced 71 yards from the AZ18 to the STL11 leading to a Jay Feely FG. There was no further first half scoring until the final minute when a 20-yard Bradford to Brandon Lloyd pass took it the AZ3. A false start penalty plus another Acho sack backed the Rams up to 17 forcing them to settle for a Josh Brown FG that made it 10-3 at intermission. rd On the opening drive of the 3 quarter, a series of Wells runs preceded a 41-yard Skelton to Fitzgerald pass and set up another short Feely FG. On the next Rams possession Acho forced a fumble by TE Lance rd Kendricks and recovered it himself at the STL28. Facing a 3 -n-13 at the 31, Skelton scrambled and dove for the first down to extend a drive that ended with Wells 7-yard TD run. Up 13-10, the th Cards defense forced a three-n-out on the next drive when the Rams opted to punt rather than go for it on 4 -n-inches from their own 30. Peterson fielded the Donnie Jones punt at the 20 and raced untouched up the middle of the th field for his NFL-record tying TD. The Rams trailed 20-10 to start the 4 but would not go away. A 48-yard Brown FG made it 20-13. On the next play, Skelton was hit while passing and LB James Laurinitis picked it off at the AZ37. The Rams could not capitalize as Browns 50-yard FG try was wide right. With 9:00 left, the Rams came up with another takeaway at the AZ44 on a fumble by Wells, who exited the game after awkwardly twisting and aggravating his injured right knee on the play. Three snaps later Bradford hit WR Brandon Lloyd with a 16-yard game-tying TD. After sitting out the first few plays of the next drive, Wells returned to rip off a 53-yard run to the STL9 and Feelys 22-yarder put AZ up 3 with 4:09 to play. After the Cards defense sent the Rams three-n-out, the offense took over at its own 26 with 3:16 left. Two key 3rd-n-4 conversions by LaRod Stephens-Howling allowed AZ to run out the clock. PROMOTING AWARENESS

The 2012 season marks the fourth year of the NFLs A Crucial Catch Campaign in partnership with the American Cancer Society (ACS). The goal of the program is to help encourage annual mammograms for women over the age of 40. In the first three years of the campaign, A Crucial Catch raised more than $3 million for ACS, with the majority of the donations coming through the sale of pink items at retail and on NFL Auction. Beginning this year, money raised through A Crucial Catch will support the American Cancer Societys Community Health Advocates National Grants for Empowerment (CHANGE) program. This program provides outreach and breast cancer screenings to women in cities that have the lowest screening rates and highest mortality rates in the country. In Week 6 when the team hosts the Buffalo Bills, the Cardinals will join the other NFL clubs playing at home in recognizing breast cancer awareness in various ways on the field and throughout the stadium. Cardinals players, coaches and staff members will all wear pink gear in honor of the campaign and all items worn by Cardinals players during the game will be auctioned off at www.nfl.com/auction to raise funds for the American Cancer Society. League-wide, the NFL will be helping to bring breast cancer awareness to the forefront in a variety of ways throughout the month of October. The efforts, which will be showcased at next weeks Cards game, include: x Game balls with pink ribbon decals used for every down and pink kicking tees x Players wearing pink cleats, wristbands, gloves, chin straps, sideline caps, helmet decals, eye shield decals, captains patches, sideline towels and quarterback towels x Pink coins used for the coin toss x Pink sideline caps for coaches and sideline personnel and pink ribbon pins for coaches and team executives x Officials wearing caps with pink ribbons, pink wristbands and pins and using pink whistles x On-field pink ribbon stencils and A Crucial Catch wall banners x Pink goal post padding in both end zones x Pink pom poms, wristbands and t-shirts for cheerleaders

MAKING HISTORY AGAINST THE RAMS

In 2011, CB Patrick Peterson had a record-breaking rookie campaign as a punt return man, and much of that success came against this weeks opponent, the St. Louis Rams. Peterson earned NFC Special Teams Player of the Week honors twice last season, with both awards recognizing his play against the Rams. In Week 9 vs. St. Louis, Peterson returned a punt 99 yards for a TD in overtime to give the Cardinals a 19-13 victory. Three weeks later, Peterson was at it again, returning a punt 80 yards for a TD in the third quarter in St. Louis. Both were milestone moments for both Peterson and the NFL. Petersons OT game winner in Week 9 was the second-longest punt return in NFL history, trailing only Robert Baileys 103-yard TD return vs. New Orleans on 10/23/94. SUSTAINING SUCCESS
In 2011, the Cardinals posted a stunning turnaround after a 1-6 start, finishing the season as one of the NFLs hottest teams by winning seven of the final nine. Arizonas 7-2 record in that span tied for the leagues second best total behind only Green Bay, New Orleans and New England (all 8-1). The Cards have continued that success this season, improving the teams record to 11-2 over the last 13 games with its 24-21 OT victory over Miami last week. During the 2011 season, the Cardinals became the first team in NFL history to win four OT games in a single season, posting a perfect 40 mark in OT matchups on the year. After taking down the Dolphins 24-21 in OT, the Cardinals have now won seven consecutive OT home games dating back to 2007. That represents the longest home OT win streak in NFL history. THE COMEBACK CARDS RETURN

During the 2011 season, Arizona proved to be one of the best comeback teams in NFL history, winning six games in which the team trailed in the fourth quarter, tied for the second-most such victories for any NFL team since 1970. Coming Back From 13 Down Of all the comebacks for the Cardinals of late, last weeks win over Miami stands out as the most impressive. 9 The Cardinals trailed 13-0 at halftime against the Dolphins before coming back to earn the 24-21 OT victory. The win marked the first time since 9/12/99 at Philadelphia (down 24-6 at half) that the Cardinals came back from a halftime deficit of at least 13 points. 9 Prior to Sundays game, the Cardinals had an all-time record of 9-214-1 when trailing by as many as 13 points at halftime. 9 On the Cards game-tying drive that resulted in Andre Roberts 15-yard TD reception with 22 seconds remaining, the Cards twice converted on fourth down, with both conversions coming on completions from Kevin Kolb to Roberts. On 4th-n-2, Kolb hit Roberts for nine yards. Six plays later Kolb hit Roberts on the 15yard TD on 4th-n-10 from the MIA-15. 9 The 13-point deficit overcome by the Cardinals in last weeks game was the second-largest deficit overcome by Arizona in the Ken Whisenhunt era (11/15/09 vs. Sea; trailed 14-0 in the second quarter and won 31-20)

ANOTHER HEART STOPPER

In 2011, the Cardinals tied a franchise record with eight wins decided by seven points or fewer, including an NFL single-season record four games in overtime. That trend continued early this season, when the teams first two games were decided by four and two points. Arizona gave fans a break in Week 3 with a 21-point victory over Philadelphia, but were back earning the Cardiac Cards nickname with their OT win over Miami last week. How Close Has It Been of Late? 9 The Cardinals played in an NFL-high 13 games that were decided by seven points or fewer in 2011. After last weeks win over Miami, Arizona has played 20 games since the beginning of last season and 16 of them have been decided by seven points or fewer. The Cardinals have an 11-5 record in those games. 9 Dating back to the 2010 season, 12 of the Cards last 13 wins have been decided by seven points or fewer. Five of those wins were decided in OT. 9 In the Cards last seven games, five have come down to the final play, with all five being wins for Arizona. 9 In the Cards last 13 wins, eight were decided on the final play of the game (not including kneel downs). 9 Of the Cardinals last 11 home games dating back to 2011, nine have been decided by seven points or fewer.

DEFENSE KEYS ANOTHER WIN

Arizona has relied heavily on its defense in the teams current run of success. The Cardinals faced some of the NFLs most high-powered offenses early in the season and had monumental success. In Week 2, the Cardinals snapped New Englands streak of 25 consecutive home games with at least 20 points. In Week 3 Arizona held the Eagles without a TD for the first time since the 09 regular season finale (1/3/10 at Dallas, 24-0 loss) while facing the NFLs top-rated offense heading into the game. Last week, the Cardinals defense allowed over 20 points in a game for the first time this season but it was big plays made by key playmakers late in the game that helped seal Arizonas 24-21 OT victory against the Dolphins. Making Plays Late vs. Miami The Cardinals forced four turnovers by the Dolphins last week but it was two crucial turnovers late in the game that led directly to the Arizona victory. 9 With Miami up 21-14 with 3:00 remaining and controlling the ball at the AZ-41 yard line, LB Daryl Washington sacked QB Ryan Tannehill, forcing a fumble that was recovered by Arizonas Vonnie Holliday. The Cardinals scored the gametying TD on the ensuing possession when Kolb hit Roberts for a 15-yard TD with 22 seconds remaining in regulation. 9 On the Dolphins OT possession, S Kerry Rhodes intercepted a Tannehill pass and returned it to the MIA-47 yard line. K Jay Feely connected on the game-winning FG seven plays later.

80 YEARS OF OWNERSHIP
In 1932, Charles W. Bidwill agreed to purchase the Chicago Cardinals from then-owner Dr. David Jones and the team has remained in the Bidwill family ever since. A prominent figure in the history of the National Football League, Charles Bidwill was enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1967. Upon his passing in 1947, his wife Violet retained control of the franchise and ran the Cardinals for the next 15 years until her passing in 1962. Control of the team them moved to her sons Charles and William (Bill). Bill, whose association with the Cardinals began as a ball boy on Chicagos South Side, became the sole owner and chief executive officer in 1972 and his involvement with the team now in its eighth decade - continues today. Mr. B remains a constant fixture at team functions as well as the Cardinals Tempe training facility where the responsibility for the day-to-day operation of the team today resides with his son and team president, Michael. Michael Bidwill joined the Cardinals in 1996 as Vice President/General Counsel after practicing law for six years as a federal prosecutor. He has established his own legacy with the franchise that has included spearheading the effort that led to the creation of University of Phoenix Stadium and the teams greatest period of success, both on the field and off. Its always been a great sense of pride for our family to be associated with the National Football League, said Cardinals owner Bill Bidwill. It is a privilege that also carries a great sense responsibility to our fans and fans of the league that we do all we can to make sure our team and game are of the highest quality. We take that responsibility very seriously. Founded in 1898, the Cardinals are the oldest continuously run franchise in professional football. They were a charter member of the National Football League when it began in 1920; the Cardinals and Bears are the only charter members of the NFL still in existence today.

DRAFTING WELL
Cardinals General Manager Rod Graves is one of the NFLs longesttenured football decision makers, having led the teams personnel department since 2003. A native of Houston, Graves is in his 16th season with the Cardinals organization after joining the team in 1997 as the Assistant to the President. He was promoted to Vice President, Football Operations in 2003 and General Manager in 2007. Graves is one of six African American general managers in the NFL, joining Baltimores Ozzie Newsome, Houstons Rick Smith, Detroits Martin Mayhew, the Giants Jerry Reese and Oaklands Reggie McKenzie. Graves oversees all facets of the teams football operations and has seen considerable success in building the team. One of the main ways Graves has built the team is through the NFL Draft. The Cardinals have received high praise for their successful draft classes under Graves, especially in recent years. Current Cardinals Pro Bowl players such as CB Patrick Peterson, WR Larry Fitzgerald, DT Darnell Dockett, and SS Adrian Wilson were all acquired through the draft. Other rising stars recently identified and brought in by Graves include DE Calais Campbell, LBs Daryl Washington and Sam Acho, RBs Beanie Wells and Ryan Williams, WR Andre Roberts and QB John Skelton. Of the 22 Cardinals starters that began the season against Seattle, 13 were draft choices of the team during Graves tenure while one other starter (C Lyle Sendlein) joined the team as an undrafted rookie free agent. The Cardinals top four draft picks in the 2010 NFL Draft are all listed starters for the Cardinals in just their third season. SUPER BOWL RETURNING TO ARIZONA

On October 11, 2011, following a very competitive bidding process, the NFL owners awarded Super Bowl XLIX to Arizona as the nations biggest sporting event will be held at University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale following the 2015 season. Its going to be huge for tourism, our economic development and our visibility not only in the United States but around the world, said Cardinals President Michael Bidwill following the vote. Super Bowl XLIX will be the third Super Bowl played in Arizona and the second one at University of Phoenix Stadium. The Cardinals home played host to Super Bowl XLII between the NY Giants and New England Patriots following the 2007 season and Arizona first hosted the Super Bowl following the 1995 season, when the Dallas Cowboys defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers. Super Bowl XLII brought with it an estimated economic impact of $500 million, with nearly 100,000 out-of-state visitors and thousands of media members from around the world visiting the Valley. With Super Bowl XLIX being held in Glendale, Arizona becomes one of just six host sites to be selected to host the Super Bowl at least three times. ADDING WASHINGTON TO THE CORE

GM Rod Graves has made it clear that under his leadership, the organization will identify a core group of players to build the team around and keep that core intact. On September 6th, third-year LB Daryl Washington became the newest Cards player drafted under Graves that was extended by the team. Washington was given a six-year extension just under four months after the team extended DT th Calais Campbell, their second round pick (50 overall) in the 2008 Draft. Two things that successful teams do consistently is build through the draft and keep their core players, Graves said in announcing the extension for Washington. Daryl has certainly lived up to the potential we all saw in him coming out of TCU in 2010 and he has established himself as one of the top young defensive players in the NFL. I know he feels, like we do, that his best football is still ahead of him and were thrilled that this deal gives him the opportunity to achieve that with the Cardinals. During Graves tenure, WR Larry Fitzgerald, SS Adrian Wilson and DT Darnell Dockett have all signed multiple contract extensions since being drafted by Arizona.

It also makes significant contributions in time, money and resources to numerous organizations throughout the United States. His work with the Carol Fitzgerald Memorial Fund, which was established in honor of his late mother, who passed away from breast cancer in 2003, offers support of causes that Fitzgeralds mother held dear, including educating urban youth about HIV/AIDS and breast cancer issues. Fitzgerald has served as a key figure in the NFLs annual Breast Cancer Awareness Month. He served as an NFL spokesman for the league-wide initiative A Crucial Catch for the last two years and was again invited to do so in 2012. Fitzgerald has traveled to Africa numerous times over the last few years, both with his good friend Anquan Boldin and on behalf of the Starkey Hearing Foundation. His most recent trip was in late July just prior to the start of training camp when he flew to Uganda to assist President Clinton and his daughter Chelsea fit hearing aids for those in need. PFW also cited Fitzgeralds use of social media to further his humanitarian work. Through Twitter and Facebook, he connects with his huge following of fans (currently over 1.3 million followers) with his Gimme 5 Fridays with Fitz initiative, in which he tweets and asks Team Fitzgerald to text HAND to 50555 and $5 is given to Phoenix Childrens Hospital.

KOLB CONTINUES TO SHINE

Entering the 2012 season as a backup, QB Kevin Kolb vowed to be ready when called upon this season and that is exactly the scenario that played out in the season opener against Seattle. Starter John Skelton went down with an ankle injury during the Cardinals final offensive drive and with the Cards down 16-13, Kolb entered the contest and completed 6 of 8 attempts for 66 yards, including a game-winning six-yard TD pass to WR Andre Roberts with just under five minutes remaining. Kolb hasnt looked back since, with another strong performance last week at University of Phoenix Stadium. Kolb finished last weeks game against the Dolphins having completed 29 of 48 pass attempts (60.4%) for 324 yards, 3 TDs, 2 INTs and a passer rating of 84.0. Kolb led the Cards on the game-tying TD drive in the fourth quarter, throwing a 15-yard TD pass to WR Andre Roberts on fourth down with only 22 seconds left in regulation, forcing OT. Kolbs three TD passes tied his career high, marking his second career three-TD performance and first since 10/17/10 vs. Atlanta. His five TD passes over the last two games represent the highest total of his career for back-to-back games. His 324 passing yards and three TDs both represent his best totals with the Cardinals. The Cardinals have now won Kolbs last five starts, which doesnt include his Week 1 performance this season when he came off the bench in the fourth quarter to throw the game-winning TD pass against the Seahawks. Solid In The Last Six In the last six games in which he has appeared, Kolb has: 9 Completed 84 of 133 attempts (63.2%) for 1,001 yards, seven TDs and two INTs 9 Has thrown two game-winning TD passes and a game-tying TD pass that sent last weeks game into OT, which the Cards won. 9 Rushed for a game-winning five-yard TD against the Patriots Kolb Wins in Return To The Starting Lineup Since returning to the starting lineup, Kolb has led the Cardinals past Pro Bowl QBs Tom Brady and Michael Vick. x Making his first appearance against the team that selected him in the second round (36th overall) of the 2007 NFL Draft and sent him to the Cardinals in a trade prior to the 2011 season, Kolb posted one of the finest outings of his career. In taking down the Eagles, Kolb completed 17 of 24 pass attempts (70.8%) for 222 yards, two TD, no INTs and a passer rating of 127.4. His 70.8 completion percentage was the second-highest of his career (79.3 vs. Atlanta, 10/17/10) while his passer rating of 127.4 ranked as the third-best of his career (133.6 vs. Atlanta, 10/17/10; 130.0 vs. Carolina, 9/11/11). x Making his first start since Week 14 of last season, Kolb led the Cardinals to their 20-18 victory over the New England Patriots two weeks ago having completed 15 of 27 pass attempts for 140 yards, a TD, no INTs and a passer rating of 82.3. He also posted 20 rushing yards and a TD, with his five-yard TD run in fourth quarter proving to be the games deciding score.

A CONTINUED PROGRESSION
QB John Skelton won a preseason battle with Kevin Kolb to become the starting QB for the Cardinals in 2012. In doing so, he resumed the position that he held last season as he helped the Cards post their remarkable late season turnaround. The Cards won seven of their final nine and Skelton was under center for six of those wins. Skelton proved in his first two seasons in the NFL that he can win games for the Cardinals. After posting a 5-2 record as a starter in 2011, Skelton earned his eighth career victory (8-4) with the win over Seattle in the 12 opener. He also improved to 6-0 at home as a starting QB. Skelton became the first Cardinals QB of the Super Bowl era to win his first six home starts and he is the first NFL QB to do so since the 49ers Shaun Hill (7 straight wins, 2007-09). Playing under less than ideal circumstances in 2011, the second-year player out of Fordham took advantage of his opportunities when starter Kevin Kolb went down with injuries over the second half of the season. After helping the Cardinals recover from a 1-6 start to win seven of their final nine games, Skelton earned his way into the preseason battle for the starting QB spot. During the victory over Seattle in Week 1, Skelton completed 14 of 28 attempts for 149 yards against the Seahawks before a fourth quarter ankle injury knocked him out of the game. Skelton Career Snapshot x Has started 12 of the 14 games he has appeared in, completing 165 of 303 pass attempts for 2,724 yards, 13 TDs and 17 INTs. x Has an 8-4 record as a starter. x Has compiled a perfect 6-0 record at home. LINDLEY EARNS HIS SPOT

QB Ryan Lindley, selected by the Cardinals with their second selection of the sixth round (185th overall) in this years draft, earned a spot on the 53-man roster with an impressive training camp and preseason performance. Lindley performed so well in camp that head coach Ken Whisenhunt gave him the start in the teams final preseason matchup vs. Oakland. Playing the first half, Lindley completed 9 of 13 pass attempts (69%) for 101 yards, a TD and a passer rating of 117.8. Lindley was later forced back into action in the second half after an injury to Richard Bartel. The one thing that has been consistent is his poise and how hes handled himself, Whisenhunt said of his rookie QB. Hes thrown the ball well and hes accurate. A four-year starter at San Diego State, Lindley established a school record with 49 consecutive starts. He also established Mountain West Conference career records for pass completions (961), pass attempts (1,732), passing yards (12,690), starts (49) and total plays (1,822).

BREAKING OUT
If any Cardinals player exemplified Arizonas breakout success over the final nine games in 2011, it was WR Andre Roberts, who finished the season as one of the teams hottest players. He had the biggest game of his NFL career against the Dolphins last week, establishing numerous career marks in a continuation of the breakout season he is experiencing in 2012. The thirdyear receiver set career single-game highs with 118 receiving yards and two receiving TDs while he tied his career high with six receptions. With two TD receptions against Miami, Roberts now has a career high four TD receptions on the season, despite having played just four games. He had two TD receptions in 15 games as a rookie in 2010 and two TD receptions in 16 games last season. Roberts now has six TDs in his last eight games dating back to last season. He totaled two TD receptions in his first 27 career games. When he hauled in his 15-yard reception on fourth down with just over 20 seconds remaining in regulation against Miami, Roberts grabbed his third game-winning TD reception in his last eight games. In 2011, Roberts started all 16 games and totaled 51 receptions for 586 yards and two TDs. Following a slow start over the seasons first seven contests, Roberts flashed the potential that caused the Cardinals to make him the highest draft pick out of the Citadel (3rd round, 88th overall) since 1970 (LB John Small, Atlanta, 1st round, 12th overall). Combined with his 15 receptions for 229 yards and four TDs this season, Roberts has totaled 53 receptions for 684 yards and six TDs in the last 13 games after collecting 37 receptions for 440 yards and two TDs in his first 22 career games. HEAP KEEPS ON CLIMBING

When the Cardinals signed TE Todd Heap as a free agent in 2011, they brought home an Arizona native who attended Mountain View High School before starring at Arizona State. Prior to signing with Arizona, Heap spent 10 seasons with the Baltimore Ravens, where he became one of the games best receiving TEs while earning two Pro Bowl selections. Back in Arizona, Heap has continued his march up the NFLs all-time list for receptions and receiving yards among TEs. With his 62 receiving yards against the Patriots in Week 2, th Heap passed Hall of Famer Mike Ditka and moved into 12 place on the NFLs all-time receiving yardage list for TEs. Heap enters this weeks game against Rams needing just th four yards to pass Todd Christensen (5,872) for 11 place on the career list. NOW THE STARTER

RB Ryan Williams moved into the starting lineup last week after Beanie Wells was placed on the injured reserve/designated to return list with turf toe. The week prior, Williams had his best game as a pro against the Eagles, rushing 13 times for 83 yards and averaging 6.4 yards per attempt. Williams did the bulk of his work against the Eagles late in the game as he helped the Cardinals hold the ball for nearly 11 minutes in the fourth quarter. He carried the ball seven times for 62 yards in the fourth quarter against the Eagles, including a pair of long runs. Among those fourth quarter carries were a 25yard run on 3rd-n-17 and an 11-yard run on 3rd-n-3 that kept Arizonas final FG drive going. The Cardinals second round selection (38th overall) in the 2011 NFL Draft, Williams made his NFL debut in Week 1 when he received the start vs. Seattle. Williams missed his entire rookie campaign with a ruptured patella tendon in his right knee, suffered in an August, 2011 preseason game at Green Bay. Williams was the second running back selected in 2011, behind only former Alabama Heisman Trophy winner Mark Ingram (Saints). After redshirting in 2008, Williams played just two seasons at Virginia Tech. He piled up a school-record 1,655 yards rushing as a freshman in 2009, and tied Marshall Faulks NCAA freshman record with 21 TDs.

ANOTHER BLOCK
The Cardinals have made it an annual tradition to lead the NFL in blocked FGAs over the last few years. It has become a trademark of the team. However, in the Week 2 win over New England it was a blocked punt that led directly to seven points for the Cardinals. When LB Quentin Groves blocked Zoltan Meskos punt attempt inside the Patriots 10-yard line in the third quarter, the ball went out of bounds at the Patriots two-yard line and the Cardinals scored their first TD three plays later. Down 9-6 prior to the block, the Cards took a 13-9 lead and never trailed again. The blocked punt was the first of Groves career and it was the first for the Cardinals since Sean Morey memorably blocked a punt by Dallas Mat McBriar in an OT win vs. the Cowboys on 10/12/08. For the Cardinals, it was their 15th blocked kick dating back to 2008 (13 FGs, 2 punts), the most in the NFL. Arizona leads the NFL with two blocked kicks in 2012. In addition to the blocked punt yesterday, DE Calais Campbell blocked a Seattle FG in Week 1. Most Blocked Kicks (FG, PAT, Punt) 2008-2012 Block Team Type 15 Arizona FG (13), Punt (2) 14 Seattle FG (9), Punt (4), PAT 11 Chicago FG (5), PAT (4), Punt (2) 10 NY Giants FG (5), PAT (5) Tampa Bay Punt (5), PAT (3), FG (2) The blocked punt against the Patriots was the sixth blocked kick in 11 games for the Cardinals (5 FG, punt). When Calais Campbell blocked Seattles 50-yard FGA on the first offensive possession of the Week 1 matchup, it marked Arizonas first blocked FGA of the season and 13th FG block dating back to 2008, an NFL-high. The Cardinals led the NFL in blocked FGAs in each of the last three seasons (5 in 2011, 3 in 2010 and 3 in 2009).

QUIETLY HAVING A GREAT SEASON

During his first season in Arizona in 2011, veteran P Dave Zastudil had an outstanding campaign. He punted 87 times for a career-high 3,929 yards and averaged 45.2 yards per punt, the fourth-highest single-season total in franchise history. Following his performance last week against the Dolphins when he punted nine times for 435 yards and a 48.3 average, Zastudil is on pace for a better season than the one he posted in 2011. Included in his 435 yards last week was a career-long punt of 68 yards, which represented the longest punt for a Cardinals player since Jeff Feagles 68 yarder on 12/1/96 @ Minnesota. Dating back to at least 1970, Zastudils 68-yarder is tied for the second-longest punt in franchise history. Only Rich Camarillos 73-yard punt on 9/20/02 at Dallas tops Zastudils punt from last week. RB LaRod Stephens-Howling recorded 145 kickoff returns for 3,662 yards and three TDs during his first three seasons in the NFL. In doing so, he put himself into position to cement his place as one of the best return men in team history during the 2012 season. He has inched closer to the franchise honors so far this season. Stephens-Howlings 148 returns rank as the fourth-best total in franchise history while his 3,728 return yards rank third and his three TDs rank second. A WELL EARNED REPUTATION

Arizonas reputation for blocking kicks is something that helps explain the trouble experienced by even some of the leagues most elite kickers when they face the Cardinals. The Cards gave some of the NFLs best kickers fits during the 2011 season. In the win during Week 2 at New England, Patriots K Stephen Gostkowskithe most accurate kicker in franchise historymissed a 42-yard FG attempt with one second left that sealed the Cards 20-18 victory. Prior to missing the potential game-winner, Gostkowski had made 38 consecutive fourth quarter field goals in the regular season. Kickers Who Struggled Against Arizona in 2011 9 Bengals K Mike Nugent held the NFL lead for FG accuracy (93.1%), having hit on 27-of-29 FG attempts on the season. Against the Cardinals, Nugent doubled his miss total for the season in the first half alone, missing on attempts of 35 and 48 yards. 9 San Francisco K David Akers, who established an NFL record for most FGs in a season with 44, saw most of his struggles in 2011 come against Arizona. Akers missed eight FG attempts last season (44-of-52) and half of those (4) came against Arizona. 9 Entering the game against the Cardinals in Week 13, Cowboys rookie K Dan Bailey had made 27-of-28 FGAs on the season, including 26 in a row leading into the game. That streak came to an end in the first quarter when Baileys 53-yard attempt went wide left. Bailey finished the day 2-of-4 on FGAs, also missing a potential game-winning 49-yard attempt at the end of the fourth quarter.

And as big a threat as he has become on kickoff returns, every return is a chance to close in on Ollie Matson (6) for career KOR TDs. Now in his 12th season, S Adrian Wilson is the teams longest tenured player and has been with Arizona since the team selected him in the 2001 NFL Draft. Wilsons first two extensions came on 12/22/04 and 6/4/09 and were both five-year deals. Wilson has appeared in 169 career games with Arizona. That ties the 8th highest games played total in franchise history. THE 20-20 MAN

Wilson has had a long list of individual accomplishments during his first 11 seasons with the Cardinals, including five Pro Bowl appearances and numerous NFL single-season records. One of the most significant is his inclusion on an exclusive list of NFL players who have recorded at least 20 INTs and 20 sacks in their career. In 2009, Wilson reached the career milestone, becoming just the 10th player in NFL history with at least 20 sacks and 20 interceptions. RHODES STRIKES YET AGAIN

Perhaps no player on the Cardinals defense has played a more meaningful role in the last three games than FS Kerry Rhodes. A number of big plays by Rhodes have led directly to points for the Cardinals and have kept key points off the board for opponents. Last weeks key play led to the Cards 24-21 OT victory against Miami. As he did the week before against Philadelphia just prior to halftime, Rhodes made a huge play against the Dolphins in OT last week. With the Dolphins driving for the potential gamewinning score, Rhodes intercepted Miami QB Ryan Tannehill on third down and returned the ball to the MIA-47 yard line. The interception set up Jay Feelys game-winning 46-yard FG seven plays later on the ensuing drive. In the Week 3 win over Philadelphia, two huge plays by the Cards safety on the Eagles final drive of the first half led directly to a 14-point swing. Crucial Plays on Crucial Drive Before Halftime (vs. Philly) 9 On 1st-n-10 from the AZ 15-yard line, Vick hit WR DeSean Jackson over the middle for 14 yards before Rhodes came up and made an open field tackle that kept Jackson out of the end zone. 9 Three plays later, with the Eagles facing 3rd-n-1 and trying to cut into Arizonas 17-0 lead, Vick dropped back with six seconds remaining before halftime and Rhodes came off the edge to record a blindside sack of the QB that forced a fumble. S James Sanders recovered the fumble and returned it 93 yards for a TD and a 24-0 Arizona lead. In addition to his sack and forced fumble against the Eagles, Rhodes added four tackles and a pass defensed. It was his third pass defensed in two games, including two in the Week 2 win over New England that featured a knockdown of a Tom Brady pass intended for TE Rob Gronkowski on a potential game-tying 2-point conversion attempt late in the fourth quarter. Rhodes has been an exciting player on the Cardinals defense since the team traded for him prior to the 2010 season. After five seasons with the Jets, Rhodes made an immediate impact in Arizona, posting a career-high 111 tackles and tying an NFL single-season record with two fumble returns for TDs. Rhodes has four sacks, four INTs and six fumble recoveries in 26 games for Arizona.

MANY GREAT RETURNS

As much as CB Patrick Peterson is focused on becoming one of the games top cover corners, it is impossible to ignore the things he did as a punt returner as a rookie. Peterson tied the NFL record and became just the fourth player in NFL history to return four punts for TDs in a single season. He joined Jack Christiansen (Detroit, 1951) as the only rookies in NFL history with four punt return TDs. DOING IT ALL
Having electrified the NFL and solidified his status as one of the best return men in the league with his four 80+ yard punt return TDs as a rookie in 2011, Patrick Peterson has returned for his second NFL season and become a jack of all trades. Running The PatCat Petersons full skill set was on display in Week 2 at New England when he introduced his version of the Wildcat. On the Cards first offensive drive of the game vs. the Patriots, Peterson took a direct snap from center and ran 17 yards, helping set up a FG drive that gave Arizona an early 3-0 lead. His second Wildcat play came when he handed off to RB LaRod Stephens-Howling for a seven-yard gain. Dominating On Defense The work on offense didnt slow Peterson down on defense. In addition to picking off All-Pro QB Tom Brady on the Patriots first offensive play of the game, Peterson added three tackles and a tackle for loss against New England. The tackle for loss came at a pivotal time in the fourth quarter. With the Cardinals leading 20-9, Peterson stopped RB Stevan Ridley for a four-yard loss on 3rd-n-1 from the AZ-39 yard line, forcing a Patriots punt and preserving the 11-point lead.

KEEPING CAMPBELL IN THE CORE

Following a career year in 2011, DE Calais Campbell signed a new five-year contract on 5/10/12 that will keep the young, (turned 26 on Saturday, Sept. 1) core player around for the foreseeable future. Campbell made a strong case to be considered among the top young defensive linemen in the game with his performance last season. He totaled 73 tackles, a team-high 8.0 sacks, 11 tackles for loss, 16 QB hits, 11 passes defensed, an INT, two forced fumbles, a fumble recovery and three blocked FGs. His 11 passes defensed ranked as the fourth-best total on the team behind DBs Adrian Wilson (16), Patrick Peterson (13) and Richard Marshall (13) and with 8.0 sacks on the year, he has led or tied for the team lead in sacks in each of the last three seasons. His nine passes knocked down at the line of scrimmage led the NFL. Named the Cardinals 2011 NFL Walter Payton Man of the Year for his community work, Campbell was originally taken by Arizona in the second round (50th overall) of the 2008 NFL Draft out of Miami. He has played in 66 regular season games with 49 starts and recorded 227 tackles (164 solos), 23 sacks, four forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, 20 passes defensed and an INT. He also has six career blocked field goals.

THE MAKINGS OF A STAR

LB Daryl Washington had a breakout season last year in his second NFL campaign. The former TCU star led the team with 111 tackles and 16 tackles for loss, adding five sacks, two INTs and seven passes defensed. Washingtons 16 tackles for loss were the most for a Cards defender in a single season since DE Clyde Simmons posted 17 in 1995. The performance earned him a contract extensionsigned on September 6th with two years remaining on his rookie deal that keeps the budding superstar in Arizona for years to come. Looking back on the first four games of the 2012 season, it appears last seasons performance was just the tip of the iceberg for the rising star. The first four games of the 2012 have proven what a smart investment the team made. Washington posted a career-high 13 tackles in Week 2 at New England and has two sacks in the last two weeks against Philadelphia and Miami. His sack and forced fumble on Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill late in the fourth quarter last week led to the Cardinals game-tying TD with under 30 remaining in regulation. With three sacks so far in 2012, Washington is one of only four NFL defenders who have recorded at least eight sacks and two INTs dating back to the 2011 season. After posting a career-high 13 tackles in Week 2 at New England, Washington had at least 10 tackles in four consecutive games dating back to the final two games of 11.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

DE Calais Campbell was named the NFC Defensive Player of the Week for his performance in the Cardinals Week 2 victory over the New England Patriots, becoming the first player in team history to win Player of the Week honors in two different categories. He was also chosen as the Special Teams Player of the Week following a week 2 victory against Jacksonville in 2009. It marked the first Defensive Player of the Week selection for Campbell as he became the 23rd different Cardinals defender to win the Defensive Player of the Week award and the first since Adrian Wilson in Week 1 of 2010. Campbell had two sacks, 10 tackles, two tackles for loss and three QB hits in the win. It was his third career game with double digit tackles and also his fourth career multi-sack game.

ACHO KEEPS GETTING BETTER

LB Sam Acho made a huge impression during his rookie campaign in 2011, recording seven sacks on the season, which ranks as the second-highest total in franchise history for a rookie behind only Simeon Rice (12.5, 1996). With his first quarter sack of Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill last week, Acho now has a sack in three consecutive games this season. Dating back to his rookie campaign, Acho has a sack in five of the last six games he has played. Through the first four games, Acho has totaled 10 tackles, three sacks, three tackles for loss, a pass defensed and a forced fumble. RETURN ON INVESTMENT
LB Daryl Washington and DE Calais Campbell both signed new contracts with the Cardinals recently and are going to be in Arizona for many years to come. The duos play so far this seasonparticularly in three consecutive wins against the defending AFC Champion Patriots, the Eagles and the Dolphinsshows exactly how smart of an investment that was. Campbell came up with one of the finest games of his young career in New England, collecting 10 tackles, two sacks, two tackles for loss and three QB hits in a performance that earned him NFC Defensive Player of the Week honors. It was the Campbells third career game with double digit tackles and first since a 10 tackle performance at Seattle on 9/25/11. Washington posted a career-high 13 tackles, a tackle for loss and a pass defensed. He followed that up the next two weeks by tacking on two sacks, to go along with 11 tackles, two tackles for loss, a pass defensed and a forced fumble. NOBODY BETTER
Choosing which Cardinals defender has gotten off to the best start through the first three games this season would have been a hard choice to make, but selecting All-Pro DT Darnell Dockett would have been a safe one. After totaling five tackles and three QB hits while providing a disruptive presence in the Seahawks backfield in Week 1, Dockett turned in another outstanding outing in New England, totaling four tackles, a pass defensed and a QB pressure. His pass defensed came when he deflected a pass on the Patriots first offensive play of the game that was intercepted by CB Patrick Peterson. Dockett was forced out of the Week 3 matchup with a hamstring injury, an injury that forced him to miss last weeks game against Miami. It was just the second missed game of Docketts career, with the only other game coming on 11/14/10 vs. Seattle when a shoulder injury held him out, snapping a streak of 104 consecutive games played. Despite having to sit out last weeks win over the Dolphins, no player at his position has appeared in more games (130) than Dockett dating back to 2004. He has started 129 of 130 career games. Dockett has led the NFL in sacks among DTs twice in his career, recording 9.0 sacks in 2007 and 7.0 sacks in 2009. Dating back to 2007, no DT in the NFL has more sacks than Docketts 28.5. A YOUTH MOVEMENT AT LINEBACKER

The Cardinals have a roster filled with young talent, and one place where that is particularly evident is at linebacker. With Sam Acho, OBrien Schofield and Daryl Washington all filling starting roles in 2012, the Cardinals have a LB corps that should serve as a foundation of the defense for years to come. Daryl Washington The most seasoned of the Cards three young LBs, Washington is in his third season, after Arizona traded up to get him in the second round (47th overall) of the 2010 Draft. A starter from day one of his NFL career, Washington has a team-high 34 tackles, three sacks, two tackles for loss and a forced fumble. Sam Acho After being selected by the Cardinals in the fourth round (103rd overall) of the 2011 NFL Draft, Acho played like a first round pick after moving into the starting role last season. He finished second on the team with 7.0 sacks as a rookie and also added a team-high four forced fumbles. He put a huge hit on Seattle RB Marshawn Lynch on a backwards pass which forced a fumble that Arizona recovered and posted his first sack of the season in Week 2 at New England. Has a sack in three consecutive games this season and in five of his last six contests. OBrien Schofield Now in his third season, Schofield came into his own during the second half of last season. He finished the year with a careerhigh 4.5 sacks. Schofield posted one of the best games of his young career in Week 3 against the Eagles, totaling six tackles, a sack, a tackle for loss and two QB pressures. He followed up with four tackles and a sack last week against Miami. The three have combined to total 60 tackles, eight sacks, and nine tackles for loss in the first four games of the 2012 season.

A FAST START FOR LENON

LB Paris Lenon posted the first multi-sack game of his 11-year career in Week 1 vs. Seattle. He tallied sacks in the first and fourth quarters against the Seahawks, to go along with six tackles, two tackles for loss, two QB hits and a fumble recovery. Lenon was one of 10 players to record at least two sacks in week one and the following week in New England, Lenon continued his hot start to the 2012 season by recording nine tackles. Through four games, Lenon has 26 tackles, 2.0 sacks, two tackles for loss, two QB hits and a fumble recovery. Prior to 2011, when he established a career-high with three sacks, Lenon had never posted more than two sacks in a season. After totaling five sacks in his first eight seasons (127 games), Lenon has seven sacks in just 36 games with Arizona. ANOTHER SACK FOR GROVES

LB Quentin Groves has enjoyed a career resurgence with the Cardinals. The former second round draft pick of the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2008, Groves posted another solid outing against the Eagles in Week 3, recording two tackles, a sack, a tackle for loss and two QB hits. That performance came after Groves recorded a sack and blocked a punt in the Cardinals 20-18 win over New England in Week 2. His sack against New England was his first sack since his rookie season in 08. The blocked punt led to the Cardinals first TD of the day three plays later, giving Arizona a 13-9 lead in the third quarter. After recording 2.5 sacks in his first four NFL seasons, he now has two sacks in four games with Arizona, including sacks in back-to-back games for the first time in his career.

A former postal service employee and the only former XFL player still active in the NFL, Lenon entered the league in 2000 with Carolina as a rookie free agent out of Richmond. After a year out of the league following his release from the Panthers, Lenon went on to play with the Memphis Maniax of the XFL.

CARDS CAPTAINS
The six team captains for the Cardinals in 2012 were selected in team vote. For the third consecutive season, WR Larry Fitzgerald and C Lyle Sendlein were named offensive captains. For the second straight season, both SS Adrian Wilson and LB Paris Lenon were awarded the honor on defense. On special teams, LB Reggie Walker and FB Anthony Sherman were named captains. Fitzgerald serves as a captain for the fourth consecutive season while Sendlein, a former rookie free agent now in his sixth season, earned the title for the third time. Wilson, the teams longest tenured player, is serving as a captain for the fourth consecutive season and for the fifth time in his career (2007, 09-12). Lenon was named captain for the second consecutive season. Both Sherman and Walker are serving as team captains for the first time in their careers. Now in his fourth NFL season, Walker signed with the Cards as a rookie free agent in 2009 out of Kansas State. Sherman earned the honor in his second NFL season, after being selected by the Cards out of UConn in the fifth round of the 2011 NFL Draft.

Game 1 CARDINALS 20, Seahawks 16 September 9, 2012 University of Phoenix Stadium (60,032)
The Cardinals earned a hard-fought week 1 victory by relying on a stout defense and resilient offense. Despite taking over in some tough spots following turnovers and long kick returns, the AZ defense was strong and allowed just one TD in 70 plays. It helped keep the game close, especially as the offense struggled to find nd its rhythm in the 2 half. However, that offense produced when it needed to most and under some very adverse conditions. Starter John Skelton, who had won the job in preseason, was knocked from the game with an ankle injury with just over 8 minutes to play. In came Kevin Kolb with the Cards down 3. He proved more than capable and led the go-ahead TD drive. After that, the Cards defense had to turn away one last Seattle threat in a furious and controversial finish. Seattles game-opening drive ended when Steven Hauschkas 50-yard FG try was blocked by Calais th Campbell, the 6 of his career. However 2 plays later RB Ryan Williams fumbled it back to SEA at the AZ42, setting up a 27-yard FG. The Cards answered with a 13-play, 75-yard drive that reached the 3 & tied it with a 21-yard Jay Feely FG. WR Andre Roberts keyed the effort with a 15-yard reverse and 2-26 receiving. AZ took the lead on its next drive when LaRod Stephens-Howling scored from a yard out to make it 10-3. rd The Cards took advantage of a Paris Lenon fumble recovery and went up 10 early in the 3 thanks to a 31-yard Feely FG. That lead would soon disappear as Seattle scored 13 straight. Leon Washingtons 83-yard KOR set-up a 10-yard Russell Wilson TD pass to Sidney Rice. On the next play from scrimmage Skelton tried to throw it away but was INTd on the sideline at the AZ34 by CB Richard Sherman. The Cards D forced Seattle to settle for a 47-yard game-tying FG. After a 3-n-out by AZ, Washington returned the ensuing punt 52 yards to the AZ16. Despite being handed another short field, the defense again answered and Seattle had to settle for a 39-yard FG after netting minus-5 yards in 3 plays. Trailing 16-13, a Skelton-to-Roberts pass gave st nd AZ its first 1 down of the 2 half with 8:18 to play. However, Skelton injured his ankle on the play and Kolb entered. Despite no reps during the week & little warm-up he crisply operated the hurry-up offense and moved nd the Cards to the SEA6. On 2 -n-goal from there, he hit Roberts for the go-ahead TD. On the drive he was 6-8 passing for 66 yards and a TD. The Cards defense would then have to answer one more time. Seattle took over at its own 20 with 4:58 to play and 2 timeouts. With :52 to play they had advanced to the AZ13. From there the Seahawks would run 13 more plays and be given an extra timeout due to an officiating error amidst th great confusion. However, they would not find the end zone and when Wilsons 4 -n-goal pass from the 4 fell incomplete, Arizona emerged with the victory. SEAHAWKS 3 0 10 3 16 CARDINALS 3 7 3 7 20 Team Qtr. Game 2 CARDINALS 20, Patriots 18 September 16, 2012 University of Gillette Stadium (68,756)
To say few gave the Cardinals a chance against the defending AFC champs would be an understatement. The heavily favored Pats were 10-0 in home openers at Gillette Stadium and QB Tom Brady had won 35 of his last 36 home starts. But an incredible defensive effort along with key plays from the offense & special teams gave AZ a late lead. That lead was in peril after a seemingly disastrous fumble deep in AZ territory with 1:10 left. However the Pats go-ahead FG try with :01 missed left and the Cards moved to 2-0 with the victory. The D held NEs offense under 20 points and sacked Brady 4 times. The offense was led by QB Kevin Kolb who started in place of John Skelton (ankle) and threw 1 TD while running for another. On the games first drive AZ moved 60 yards in 13 plays and got on the board with a 38-yard Jay Feely FG. On NEs first play DT Darnell Dockett tipped a Brady pass at the line and CB Patrick Peterson made a diving INT at the NE36. That led to a 47-yard Feely FG and a 6-0 AZ lead. On the ensuing drive the Pats nd moved to the AZ28 but no further and Stephen Gostkowskis 46-yard FG made it 6-3. Early in the 2 quarter RB Stevan Ridley (4-31) helped NE advance to the AZ11. However the defense held them to just a FG and rd the game was tied on Gostkowskis 34-yarder. On the next AZ drive Kolb scrambled on 3 -n-6 but fumbled and the Pats recovered at the NE48. The Cardinals D again answered in a big way, sacking Brady on 2 of the next 3 plays with takedowns nd LBs Sam Acho (-10) and Quentin Groves (-7) forcing a key 3-n-out. by On the first play of the 2 half, Brady connected with WR Wes Welker on a 36-yard pass to the AZ44 but the Pats got just 11 more after that and Gostkowskis 50-yard FG gave them a 9-6 lead. Their next drive started at their own 10 and the Cards D forced a 3-n-out. Quentin Groves then broke through to block the Zoltan Mesko punt which went out at the NE2. Three plays later, Kolb hit WR Andre Roberts for the go-ahead rd TD. The key play of the next drive came on 3 -n-6 at the AZ30 when Dockett blew up RB Danny Woodhead for a 9-yard loss and forced a punt instead of FG try. Kolb then led a gritty 9-play, 75-yard drive and capped it with a 5-yard TD run up the middle. Pivotal were completions of 11 & 28 to TE Todd Heap and WR Early rd Doucet absorbing a big hit to make a 9-yard catch on 3 -n-6. The Cards held that 20-9 lead until Gostkowskis 53-yard FG cut the lead to 8 with 6:45 left. On their next drive, Brady completed an 11-play, 82-yard drive with a 5-yard TD to TE Rob Gronkowski but Kerry Rhodes broke up the pass on the 2-point try preserving a 20-18 st AZ lead. With 2:06 left the Cards took over at their own 20. They picked up a 1 down and with 1:10 left faced rd 3 -n-13 at the NE35 when RB Ryan Williams fumbled and Vince Wilfork recovered at the AZ30. An apparent 30-yard Woodhead TD run was called back on a Gronkowski hold leading NE to play for a go-ahead FG. However, Gostkowskis 42-yard try missed wide left with one tick on the clock. Game 3 CARDINALS 27, Eagles 6 September 23, 2012 University of Phoenix Stadium (60,436)
In a match-up of 2-0 teams, the Cardinals faced a Philly offense that entered the game ranked #1 in the NFL. But a swarming & relentless defensive effort battered Michael Vick all afternoon, sacking him 5 times and pressuring him much more frequently than that. With defensive captain and All-Pro SS Adrian Wilson out (ankle/groin) others stepped up including LB Daryl Washington (2 sacks) and FS Kerry Rhodes, who provided st an enormous momentum swing with a series of key plays at the end of the 1 half. Three key Eagles turnovers (none for AZ) were also pivotal as was an efficient Cards offense. Ex-Eagle QB Kevin Kolb again started and turned in another strong performance. His top target was WR Larry Fitzgerald who topped 100 st yards in the 1 half and finished 9-114-1TD receiving. He also notched career catch #700 and became the fastest NFL player to reach that mark by over a year. All of it added up to a 21-point Cards victory that gave st them their 1 3-0 start since 1974. With it they extended their home win streak to 7 games, 2 short of the franchise record set in 1925. After sending the Eagles 3-n-out on the games initial series, Kolb led an 8-play, 36-yard drive that ended with Jay Feelys 47-yard FG and a 3-0 lead. AZs next drive ended with a punt but Anthony Sherman forced a rd Damaris Johnson fumble that LS Mike Leach recovered at the PHI38. On 3 -n-goal from the 8, Kolb fired a st pass between a pair of Eagle defenders that defelected right to WR Michael Floyd for the rookies 1 reception & TD. The ensuing Eagles drive reached the AZ36 but LB Sam Acho ended it by sacking Vick, forcing a nd fumble DT Dan Williams recovered. Midway thru the 2 quarter, Kolb connected with Fitzgerald down the middle on a 37-yard TD pass that made it 17-0. Just before intermission the Eagles penetrated deep into AZ territory and appeared poised to cut into the lead heading into the locker room. Vick hit DeSean Jackson with a 14-yard pass to the 1 but FS Kerry Rhodes stood him there to keep him out of the end zone. Incompletions st nd rd on 1 and 2 downs set up a 3 -n-goal from the 1 with :06 left. Vick dropped back but Rhodes hit him on a blindside blitz forcing a fumble that S James Sanders scooped up. He followed an envoy of teammates down the left sideline for a 93-yard score as time expired. That 14-point swing put the Cards up 24-0 when it appeared that the Eagles would pull to within 10. nd rd a In the 2 half, Arizona was content to work the clock and the only 3 quarter scoring came on th pair of Alex Henery FGs as the Cardinals D continued to relentlessly harass Vick and the Eagles. In the 4 quarter AZ played keep-away and RB Ryan Williams kept the clock and sticks moving with determined running. Feelys 27-yard FG with 3:52 remaining provided the games final points.
Many of the key plays were delivered by WR Andre Roberts who had a career-best 118 th yards & 2 TDs on 6 catches. They led 13-0 at half on two Dan Carpenter FGs th sandwiched between and 1-yard Jorvorskie Lane TD plunge on 4 -n-goal. They missed a chance to extend it on the initial drive of the 2 half when Carpenter missed from 51. The AZ offense then found the end zone when rd Kevin Kolb hit Larry Fitzgerald on 3 -n-goal from the 3 to cap an 8-play, 53-yard drive. It remained 13-7 until th the 4 when the Cards took over at their own 19 with 11:12 to play. But LB Daryl Washington came up huge, bursting through the middle to sack Tannehill and force a fumble that DE Vonnie Holliday recovered at the rd AZ49. The Cards had new life but it was imperiled when Kolb was sacked on the next 2 plays setting up a 3 th n-18 at the AZ41. Back-to-back completions to Roberts - a 16-yarder followed by a 9-yarder on 4 -n-2 - kept th alive a drive that reached the 15 with :42 left. After 3 incompletions, the Cards faced a 4 -n-10 from the 15 with :29 left. Kolb again found Roberts just inside the end zone sending the game to OT. AZ got the ball first in st rd the extra period but went 3-n-out. Miami picked up a 1 down, but on 3 -n-6 from their own 38 Paris Lenon pressured Tannehill leading to a Kerry Rhodes INT that set AZ up at the MIA47. The Cards moved to the 28 th where Jay Feely notched his 6 career OT FG from 46 yards out. DOLPHINS CARDINALS Team Qtr.
