Instructions for Authors

Submissions will be accepted for review by the editorial team with the understanding that the content is unpublished and is not being simultaneously submitted for publication and/or review elsewhere. While an international audience is encouraged to submit manuscripts, only manuscripts written in Malay & English can be accepted for review and publication. Manuscript length is normally 20-30 (double-spaced) pages with a 12-point Arial @ Cambria font, with one-inch margins on all sides. To be considered for publication, all manuscripts must be submitted for review as a Microsoft Word file through the Malaysian Journal of Outdoor Recreation & Education email: majorejournal@gmail.com

Copy must be prepared according to the following guidelines: Form

All materials must be typed, double-spaced (including abstract and references) and formatted for 8 1/2 x 11-inch paper using a 12-point Arial @ Cambria font with one-inch (2.54 cm) margins on all sides (top, bottom, right, and left). All pages should be numbered consecutively in the upper right hand corner. Line numbers should appear through the entire manuscript for review procedures. A title page should not be included with the manuscript. Author name(s) should not appear in the manuscript to maintain anonymity during the review process. Exceptions would include in-text citations and references. Each table, drawing, illustration, photograph, map, etc. must be prepared and included within the text of the manuscript (not on separate pages) where the author would like the item to be placed. Tables, figures, etc. should be numbered and labeled according to guidelines in Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (APA) (6th Ed.)

Abstract

Each submission should be summarized in a 180 word maximum abstract. Submissions without an abstract will not be reviewed. The title of the submission should be included above the abstract. For research paper, please separate the abstract into four sections/paragraph o Research aim o Methodology

Result Recommendation The abstract will preface the main body of the submission on a separate page and should enable the reader to get an overview of the entire paper, with particular attention to the need for the paper and possible professional implications as appropriate. Three to five key words describing the content of the submission and to be used for computer retrieval should be provided at the end of the abstract.

References

Include only references to sources actually cited in the manuscript. All references and in-text citations should follow the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (APA) (6th Ed.). References in the text should cite the author's last name, year of publication, and page (where appropriate). For example, (Pine & Birch, 2008) or Pine and Birch (2008). Follow the 6th Edition of the Publication Manual for guidance on references where no author may exist (e.g., electronic resources). All references should appear on a Reference page at the end of the manuscript, not at the foot of each page. Follow the 6th Edition of the Publication Manual of the APA for guidance.

ABSTRACT

Aim The purpose of this study is threefold: (1) To examine the effects of outdoor adventure program towards participants mental toughness; (2) To investigate gender influence towards participants mental toughness; and (3) To identify an outdoor activity that affect participant mental toughness mostly. Method This study utilized pre and post quasi experimental with control group design. The 42 items of Psychological Performance Inventory (PPI; Loehr, 1986) used as study instrumentation plus participants demographic questionnaire. Respondents were among 265 (n = 165, experimental group; n = 100, control group) diploma level athletes, age in a range of 17-30 years old and undergoing Diploma in Sport Studies (SR113). The data was collected during their five days camp. Result Findings of this study supported the notion that outdoor adventure programme is effective in enhancing respondents mental toughness. Gender did not played any significant influences on the improvement of mental toughness. Students rated survival activities as the most influential activity towards their mental toughness improvement. Conclusion This study concludes that outdoor adventure programme is effective in enhancing athletes mental toughness plus advancing the previous studies in gaining deeper understanding of mental toughness.
