James Watt College: Centre of Innovation Sound Production: Graded Unit 2 (DR2R 35) The portfolio can be in a format of your choosing i.e. physical (book) or digital (PowerPoint, video, website) but this must reflect your qualities, that of the mandatory course units, and the option that you are being interviewed for. As such you will have identified and carried out tasks from your planning stage & you will have collected and collated information from the course and other sources to complete your portfolio. You must choose, from your coursework, present & past projects, business/marketing proposals, recording sessions etc for the materials to contribute to your presentation. You will then participate in an interview. The total time for presentation and interview will be 25 minutes. Therefore, an ability to judiciously select and logically order high quality materials, then to present effectively in an interview is key to the success of this project. Part 2: (15 marks) A written record of the processes underpinning the portfolio preparation should be contained in a structured logbook that should consist of the following: The Logbook The first section, Action Plan should contain your plan as approved by your tutor. This will allow you to develop your portfolio; the Action plan must be viewed as work in progress and as such will evolve as the project proceeds. The second section, research evidence is where you will make reference to research methods and texts examined as well as how knowledge and/or your skill was integrated. This will help prove that you have been thorough in your work and that you have undertaken your research effectively. The third section, explanation and justification of actions, allows you to explain your actions and will probably be referenced against your research. For example, you may have adopted a particular system when implementing your plan, the reason for which will not be obvious to your tutor. Demonstrating that your system has a basis in research allows you to justify your actions. The fourth section, analysis and/or description of the portfolio preparation process, will allow you to analyse the way you prepared your portfolio, why you selected items and how they will be used during your presentation. It will also, if appropriate allow you to state how the mentoring system assisted you in that process. Since the overall brief is about creativity in your approach and work, this section lets you highlight how you developed the brief to prepare your portfolio. The fifth section allows you to consider how you are preparing for the post presentation interview. What are your interviewers questions likely to focus on, what key skills should you highlight? During stage 2 you may meet with your tutor to check on your progress. These mentoring sessions will be a chance to make sure that you are on target to complete the project and to get help with any problems occurring. Finally, you will present your project and be interviewed near the end of the year. Total mark available for this stage is 60 marks

This should include reference to any modifications made during the course of the project and to any alternative courses of action considered but rejected. The assessment should be supported with credible reasons. A commentary on aspects of the planning and developing stages which worked effectively and why, and/or aspects of the planning and development stages which did not work as effectively as expected. Each aspect of the project should be covered in the commentary. Your assessment of the strengths and weaknesses of the activities of each of the first two stages of the project. You should identify what could have been done to improve the presentation and interview. This should be supported by credible reasons and cover at least one strength and at least one weakness as well as outline the effectiveness of the mentoring process. Recommendations for future projects. These should be based on items 1 3 above and could relate to your personal development (e.g. in terms of the further development of skills used in this project) or aspects of the process or product of the project (e.g. with respect to setting timescales, gathering information or possible future projects). It should be clear from the recommendations that you have reflected on what happened and drawn conclusions from this reflection.
