My dear People, While serving as Pastor of Lalbagh Methodist Church, I preached insistently that a church to be a church, must engage in mission. One year, the then Finance Chairperson took me seriously, and proposed that the churchs budget should reflect that theological point of view, and proposed a ten-fold hike in the allocations for missions. I thought that the man was going too far, too fast, too soon. I was willing to preach and just leave things at that, feeling that I for one had done my bit. Thank God that one man was willing to act on what he had heard from God. The church in turn affirmed the mans faith with a tremendous response. That push for missions catapulted Lalbagh into supporting a missionary couple in the Andamans. Lalbagh became the first church in India to give full monthly support to one specific missionary couple. When the couple were reassigned to training, I lost touch with them. Then, out of the blue, a girl named Jessie got in touch with me. Mercy and Johnsons daughter had found me via the Internet. And now it is a joy to be able to have Mercy and Johnson visit us in the last week of this month and have Johnson preach from our pulpit on the 28th. The Countdown.
Noble Chands sister/Anaithas great aunt died suddenly of food poisoning. Amit and family were able to get to Lucknow for the funeral. Meanwhile, Shalini nee Chand is battling typhoid. Arman was under treatment for frequent fevers and weight-loss. Sweata was quite unwell, and her mother had a fall and injured her knee. Fizza Phillips, Ethan Khan, Amrit Modwell were all down at various times with seasonal ailments of throat infection and/or fever and cough. Malinis niece Tanisha had to suddenly have open heart surgery to correct a congenital condition. Shanti Prakash was quite unwell but doing alright now. Alisha had a few, momentary episodes of becoming pale and still. Tests show nothing to worry. Sunday School kids & teachers ministered to the Alipur Grace Bible Church children. Vijay Singh coordinating the printing of the India Bible Publishers edition of the Hindi Bible. Rufus moved into a nice flat with three colleagues from Ford Motor Company. Pooja Modwell did well in tests to qualify for management courses.

Nineteen months to get me my retirement farewell present. I know its bad manners to tell you what I want. I just thought I would make it easier. I want 20 lakhs to build the sanctuary for the village church. We have about 25 units (families and singles). So each unit needs to raise Rs 80,000 (from family and friends) to get me my present. Since some will not be able to raise that much, those who can, need to raise more than 80,000. Please remember that the target date for the dedication of the sanctuary is April 2014, which means that the construction needs to begin by August 2013. That gives you 11 months for the task. You just have to raise approximately 7,500 per month. When its broken down like that it doesnt seem so impossible to achieve does it? Love, Kuru
