Problems on train: 1.A km/hr=a*(5/18) m/s 2.a m/s=a*(18/5) km/hr 1.consider a train which is of length L meters .

it is said to pass a pole or a standing man or a standing post.what will be the time to pass the pole,man or a post Time taken for the train of length L to pass a pole or standing man or a post =time taken by the train to cover a distance of L meters. 2.consider a train of length l meters .it is said to pass a stationary object of length b meters Time taken for the train of length L meters to cross the stationary object of length B meters=time taken by the train to cover (L+B) meters 3.if two trains are traveling in the SAME DIRECTION at u m/s and v m/s then the relative speed is =(u-v)m/s 4.if the two train are moving in the opposite direction then the relative speed is (u+v) m/s 5.if two trains are of length A and B and these two trains are moving opposite direction with a speed of u m/s and v m/s then the time taken for the two trains to cross each other is ((a+b)/(u+v))sec. 6.two trains are of length a and b meters and they are moving in the same direction with a speed of u m/s and v m/s then the time taken for the faster train to cross the slower train is ((a+b)/(uv))sec 7.consider two trains .both trains are said to start at the same time.they start from different point A and B . after crossing each other they take a and b sec in reaching B point and A point respectively (As speed) : (bs speed)=(/b:/a). ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ex:1: Length of the Train =100m Speed =30 km/hr.=30*(5/18)=25/3 Time=distance/speed=100/(25/3)=300/25=12sec ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ex 2: Speed =132 km/hr=132*(5/18)=110/3 m/s Length of the train=110m

Length of the platform=165m(stationary job) What is the time taken to cross the platform??? Distance covered will be=distance of the train+distance of the platform(using rule no 2) (v already know that the time taken to cross the platform=time taken by the train to cover a distance of(length of train+length of stationary object) =165+110=275m Time taken to cover the platform = 275/(110/3)=275*(3/110)=15/2 sec =7(1/2) sec Ex:3: Length Railway bridge =180m Time taken for the train to cross the bridge is 20 sec(stationary object) Time taken for the train to cross the person= 8 sec What is the length of the train and its speed? Soln: Let the length of the train be x meters. Time taken for the train to cross a person= time taken for the train to cross a railway bridge of length 180 m Time=distance/speed (x/8)=((x+180)/20) X=120m this is the length of the train Speed =distance/time=120/8=15 m/sec =15*(18/5) =54 kmph --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Ex:4: Length of the train=150m speed =68kmphr In what time will it pass a man who is running at the same direction who is running at a speed of 8 kmphr Soln: As they are travelling in the same direction the relative speed is=(68-8)kmph=60 kmph=60*(5/18)=50/3 m/s Time taken by the train to cross the man =time taken by it to cover 150m

=(150/(50/3))=150*(3/50)=9 sec. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Ex:5 Length of the train is 220 m Speed of the train is 59 kmphr In what time will it pass a man running at 7 kmphr in opposite direction?? If its in a opposite direction then the relative speed is u+v=59+7=66 km/hr=66*(5/18)m/s =55/3 m/s Time taken to cross the men =time taken to cover 220 m =distance/speed =220/(55/3)=12 sec Ex:5: Train is of length =220m long speed=59kmph What time it will pass a man who is running at 7 kmph train and man passes in a direction opposite to each other Soln: Relative speed will be u+v =59+7=66 km/hr =66*(5/18)=55/3 m/s Time taken to cover 220m =distance/speed =220/(55/3)=(220*3)/55=12 sec Ex:6: Two train are of length 137 and 163 They are running towards each other which means opposite to each other..speed=42 kmph and 48 kmph Soln:-in what time they will meet each other? The formula used is They travel in opposite direc=((a+b)/(u+v)) A and b are the distance of the two trains U and v are the speed

Relative speed=42+48 kmph =90 kmph=90*(5/18)=25 m/s Distance covered (a+b) =137+163=300m Time taken for the train to pass each other =(a+b)/(u+v)=(300)/25 =12 sec Note: 1.When u want to find speed the unit is km/hr. so u have to see if the distance is in km if not convert into km and then proceed with the problem.see if the time is in hours if not convert it to hours. 2.when u want to find the time the unit is sec.if the speed is in km/hr convert it in to m/s --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ex:7: Length of the two trains is 100m and 120 m both are travelling in the same direction with a speed of 72 km/hr and 54 km/hr.time for the first train to cross each other..? Both are travelling in the same direction so the formula used is u-v= (72-54)=18 km/hr=18*(5/18)=5 m/s Time=((a+b)/(u-v)) distance travelled=(100+120)=220m time taken to cross each other=220/5=44 sec --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ex:8: Length of the train=100m .it takes 6 sec to cross a man who is walking at the speed of 5 kmph in a direction opposite to each other.find the speed of the train? Time taken to cross each other in the opposite direction be =((a+b)/(u+v)) Let the speed of the train be x km/hr Speed of the man is =5km/hr Relative speed=(u+v)=(x+5)*(5/18) Distance covered will be(100+0)=100(0 because men will not have a distance) Time taken=6sec

6=100/((x+5)*(5/18)) X=55 m/s --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ex:9 Train is running at a speed of 54 kmph it takes 20 sec to pass a platform.next it take 12 sec to pass a man walking at a speed of 6 kmph in the same direction.find the length of the train and platform..? Relative speed is(u-v)km/hr=(54 6)=48km/hr=48*(5/18)=40/3 m/sec Time=(a+b)/(u-v) The length of a men,post is always 0 Let length of the train be x. Time=(x+0)/(40/3) Time is 12 sec 12=x/(40/3) X=160m this is the length of the train Speed of the train=54*(5/18)=15m/s time taken by train of length 160m to cross a platform of length x meters =time taken by the train to cover (160+x)meters time taken=distance/speed (if u r going to calculate the length of the platform take the time required for the train to cross the platform which is 20sec) 20 =(160+x)/15 300=160+x X=140m. Ex 10:a man is sitting in the train and it went at a Speed of train is 50 kmph Goods train went at the opposite direction.it took 9 sec when it crossed it Length of the goods train is 280mspeed???? Relative speed =distance/time =280/9 m/s=280/9 *(18/5)=112kmph this is the relative speed But relative speed=u+v

112=50+v V=62 kmph
