Appendix 1 1st Malaysian Research Conference Auckland The first Malaysian Research Conference 2011 (MaRCA 2011) is organised by the Chair of Malay Studies (CMS) in collaboration with Education Malaysia New Zealand (EMNZ) and Malaysian-Auckland Postgraduate Students Association (MAPSA). Date: 17 December 2011 Time: 9am 9pm Venue: The University of Auckland Background With the theme Glow to Shine it is hoped that Malaysian researchers in New Zealand will be able to discuss their research with other postgraduate students, which are crucial steps in postgraduate studies. The main aim of this Conference is to give the much needed moraleboost, exposure and most importantly the opportunity to reflect and improve. It is hoped that the conference could identify early synergies between research projects, and peer support and could showcase the range of research recently completed and underway by Malaysian postgraduates in New Zealand North Island. CMS in collaboration with EMNZ and MAPSA organize this day-long Conference to help shed some light in the sometimes foggy cycle of postgraduate research. There are no restrictions in the range of topics being addressed as long as the research is conducted by a Malaysian. Research proposals, research papers, and research projects are accepted in this conference and all papers are peer reviewed on the basis of a full length manuscript and acceptance are based on quality and relevance. Accepted papers will be published in the conference proceedings edited by The New Zealand Chair of Malay Studies Prof. Dato Wan Rafaei, and will be made freely available on the web. Before this conference, CMS has initiated the First National Postgraduate Research Colloquium (1NPRC) at the University of Otago located in South Island on 4 July 2011. It is hoped that MaRCA11 in the north of New Zealand and NPRC in the south will be organised annually so that Malaysian postgraduate students will have a forum for discussion on their research. CMS acknowledges the support given by Victoria University of Wellington and the Malaysian High Commission in New Zealand in all the actiites organised by CMS. CMS is grateful to EMNZ and MAPSA for their collaboraton in organising this conferencee
