October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. One of the earliest signs of breast cancer can be an abnormality that shows up on a mammogram before it can be felt. The most common signs of breast cancer are a lump in the breast, abnormal thickening of the breast; or a change in the shape or color of the breast. Finding a lump or change in your breast does not necessarily mean you have breast cancer. Additional changes that may also be signs of breast cancer include: Any new, hard lump or thickening in any part of the breast Change in breast size or shape Dimpling or puckering of the skin Swelling, redness, or warmth that does not go away Pain in one spot that does not vary with your monthly cycle Pulling in of the nipple Nipple discharge that starts suddenly and appears in only one breast An itchy, sore, or scaling area on one nipple Eat a well balanced diet, visit your doctor for regular check ups and EXERCISE! NEW SYNTHETIC DRUG! Once again there has been a blast of news reports about a new synthetic drug. This time the focus is on a synthetic drug identified as 2CL by doctors, and "Smiles" by users. The impact of this drug are proving to be one of the most dangerous synthetic drugs as of yet. The symptoms have brought users to a new level of insanity that many identify as no turning back from. It's important that they realize the damage to their ability to function, may not be just during use, but continuous for the rest of their life. Two deaths have already been linked to this drug and this article and video will describe the torture these youth experienced while the drug was killing them. Please read this article and educate and warn your youth. NATIVE HEALTH continues to offer helpful services for adolescents. If you feel that your adolescent is or may be involved with drug/alcohol use, or is displaying risky behaviors, NATIVE HEALTH can help. Please call Wendy at (602) 279-5262 x 3210, or email her to inquire about substance abuse risk, or use, and counseling.

Does It Run In the Family from Arizona Department of Health Services, Office of Children with Special Health Care Needs: Holiday time is upon us! Part of the celebration may be family gatherings, meals with seldom seen relatives or stories from grandparents, uncles, aunts, and cousins. This year as you sit around the table or family room exchanging stories, ask your relatives to help you compile a family history. Learning about your family's health history is a fast, cheap, and easy way to help you and your family, stay as healthy as possible. It can help guide your health care provider to the best options when discussing health care decisions and may help you make healthy lifestyle choices, lowering your risk of developing an illness or condition. The Genetic Alliance has an easy to use tool, Does It Run In Your Family guide. This guide helps you collect family health history and improve communication with health care providers. This guide is Free. Check it out, make it your own, and give your family a step up to better health. These programs are listed as a community service but are not endorsed by NATIVE HEALTH.
