This positive outlook for our future bodes well for our community,
as we continue to capitalize on the economic growth not only
in Prince Albert, but our region and the north. It is however of
interest to note from a Chamber of Commerce perspective that
while economic growth and opportunity are the main focus of the
future, the biggest concern for our Chamber business community
is the current civic attitude towards business. When asked the
question, “What do you feel are the top three significant issues or
concerns from an economic growth standpoint?” the number one
concern was listed as civic attitude towards business. The second
and third choices were the cost of property taxes and the need for
a second bridge. Airport expansion was a very close fourth with
availability of developed land being the lowest priority.
If we look further into the results of the survey we see that the
majority of those who responded are looking not only for a change
in civic attitudes, but also a solid and measurable ten year plan for
development which includes the attraction of more residents and
businesses to our City and region.
The results of the survey have given us clear indication that there
is a need for the Chamber to deliver a stronger message about
the future of economic development and cooperation between the
Business Community, City Administration and elected officials.
We believe that the recent land
development agreement is
promising and we look forward
to more cooperation amongst the
City and Business. It is relevant
to note however, that a one time
announcement is not necessarily
indicative of a change in attitude
towards private development and
the business community. The
