Designation of Use of Prize Winnings The purpose of awarding the $75,000 or $25,000 cash prize is to contribute to solutions for the urgent challenges that The Tech Awards address. To that end, we ask you to briefly describe below how the cash prize will be used if you are selected to receive it. To promote the values of the Awards program and sustain the high level of credibility of both you and the Awards program, The Tech Museum will require that highly funded Laureates designate another entity as the recipient of the actual cash. If you are selected as a cash prize winner, describe how you will use the funds or if applicable, designate another recipient.

If we are made a winner of this prize, we will allocate the entire prize amount in developing this technology for micro-languages specified by the Prize givers. They could be languages of Africa or any other developing or developed country. It could be a language of an island like the Mauritian Creole which has only one million speakers and no hope of its inclusion on any phone. It could be Tibetan, threatened in a political way and for which we have received isolated requests and we know that the collection of its non existing digital corpora would be somewhat painstaking and would have to be done in situ or with competent local agents. It could be threatened language, an endangered script with only thousands of users remaining but very important to preserve. In essence, the development for those languages will not be motivated by any commercial considerations for our company. It will be to offer the users of those languages to find themselves supported on digital devices, the first freedom to type in their own languages with ease on a phone and other digital devices of the future. And the prize giver will be acknowledged in those products. The cost of developing for a language involves collection of relevant corpora which could be the most expensive part which is done manually with sensitivity to the nature of the content, the aim being collection of relevant content of the contemporary form of the language, biased towards being more representative towards ordinary personal communications. And it is good if it is a large quantity. The rest is some research on the language through statistical mining, some specific innovations for the language which become apparent from such research and software development costs for every hardware platforms which are now streamlined and mostly common for most languages.
