TPC Health B Portfolio Item 2: Case study report on global health promotion strategies For this item you

must identify a global health promotion strategy and report on it. Conditions This item must be a combination of in-class and take-home work. The length should not exceed 1000 words diagrams, graphs and reference lists are not counted in the word count. Material that exceeds the word limit will not be considered. Only one draft of Item 2 may be submitted for feedback to one teacher The portfolio is to be completed and submitted by Week 16. The portfolio will be locally marked and centrally verified.

The level of assistance provided by the teacher should be guidance to where learners need to make improvements and general statements how this could be done. It should not include correcting errors or providing detailed examples of what they could be including. Appendices are not to be used.

Criteria for assessing portfolio item 2:


1. Identify a range (3) of curative (how to cure) and (3 of) preventative (how to prevent it from occurring) health delivery strategies, including two examples of each. The curative strategy can be anything where a cure is involved such as antibiotics for a bacterial infection. The preventative strategies would consist of campaigns such as the slip slop slap anti skin cancer campaign. 2. Examine the key aspects of the Ottawa and Bangkok Charters.

These need to be researched and the key points of each identified and briefly explained. 3. Identify a significant health issue that exists in both Australia and in a developing country Identify a significant health issue such as HIV in Australia and eg Papua. Then describe what is the current status in each country.

4. Critically evaluate the implementation of public health policy for the chosen health issue in Australia and in the developing country Critically evaluate point 3. This means you need to tell me what you think of the implementation of the public health policy and is it working or not working. What can be done to improve things, who should do it etc. This is a 4 mark question so you will need to spend some time collecting and evaluating information on how the policy is implemented from National down to a local level. 5. Analyse evidence to determine possible future direction of health policies for the chosen health issue What will be the possible projected direction for the for the health policies. Will more research money be handed out, more foreign aid administered. Increased research and education etc. 6. Use in-text referencing and provide a list of sources consulted You know the drill for this now.
