PRAYER OF CONFESSION God of steadfast love, we have ignored your many gifts; we have forgotten to give thanks in all things. We have taken for granted our home, this beautiful planet, the air we breathe, the food that nourishes our bodies, even the love of family and friends. We have forgotten that all these gifts come from you. Forgive our selfish ways, and turn our hearts to you. WORDS OF ASSURANCE Leader: Even before we ask, God promises to redeem us and forgive us. In Gods abundant grace, our feet stand on level ground and we are clothed in honor and glory. All: Amen.

Announcements World Communion SundaySince 1940, Christians from all branches of the family tree have celebrated Holy Communion on the first Sunday in October. We remember that we are one body, Christs body. The day has taken on deeper meaning in todays world of globalization, when fear divides the peoples of Gods earth. On this day we celebrate our oneness in Christ, the Prince of Peace, in the midst of the world we are called to serve. In the United Methodist Church, a special offering supports scholarships for students in and beyond the United States. Many Methodist leaders around the world received scholarships and studied in the United States, thanks to gifts made on World Communion Sunday. How Much Is Enough? Have you ever noticed that the more people have, the more people seem to want? When do we ever arrive at enough? If you have wondered about this as a Christian, youre invited to a book study with Rev. Devine, beginning on Thursday, October 11: Longing for Enough in a Culture of More. The author, Rev. Paul Escamilla, is senior pastor of St. Johns UMC here in Austin. The group will meet for 5 Thursday nights from 7 to 8:30 p.m., concluding on November 8. If interest warrants, a daytime session will also meet. Rev. Devine has books available for $7. If youre interested, please e-mail her at revjeanned@sbcglobal.net or leave a message, 447-6633. If you would like to pick up a book during office hours, please stop by the church office between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. Monday through Friday. The authors aim is living contentedly with enough. He speaks to a longing in your own heart, a longing for enough to be plenty, and a simpler life to be experienced as abundant beyond measure. The sessions are The Good Book, The Good Life, The Good Work, The Good Society and The Good Earth. Wherever you are on your life and faith journey, you are welcome to participate! Usher, Greeter and Acolyte Trainingfollowing services on Sunday, October 21. We will have a short lunch prior to the training session. A more detailed agenda will be available closer to the date.
