Link to programme We've got a really fresh - and so needed - perspective today: How does citizens' impact transform - or maintain - national intellectual capital? How does our competence and capacity to utilize intangible capital become visible in our every day (business) life and performance? It exists and we have daily impact on it - whether we consciously try to acquire some change or not.

Intellectual capital as a driver of national economy, Prof. Pirjo Sthle, University of Turku, Finland Futures Research Centre Intellectual capital = knowledge that can be converted into profits (IC or intangible capital, intangible assets, intangibles, knowledge capital) IC research tradition was born in the early 1990's during 15 years it's been discussed how to describe and define IC in an enough unified way -> in order to know what we actually are dealing with "Knowledge as such is nothing" => what's essential is to learn how intagible capital, financial capital and knowledge capital are connected and what we can do to and with our impact in it Finnish society 1850 resource driven 1900 tangible investment driven 1960 intangible investment driven 1985 wealth driven 1990 remarkable re-structuring and re-orientation 1995 innovation and knowledge driven economy Innovativeness as such does not correlate with successful performance => connection with process capital and competences and capacities related with it are crucial (for profitability) = drivers of economy
ConnectIrmeli commented on posted to #seminaarikannu 23.11.2010 (en)

Pirjo Sthle concludes: SAIKA project discovers how to measure the above explained phenomena. The aim is to provide tools for people dealing with economical performance and everything that has impact on it (vice versa) throughout the society

Current status of Intellectual capital measurement on national level, Prof. Antti Lnnqvist, Tampere University of Technology Could transforming the ice-berg model into a tree model be a better metaphor and visualization? Can we perceive easier of what is our impact on a single tree close to us => as part of the environmental development around us, rather than an ice-berg somewhere far away? The national iC measurement field is still fairly immature and the measures quite problematic Data availability is a key issue - who should provide it, what should it contain IC is a key source of national prosperity

Studying the relationship between national IC and national performance within a number of fields is currently mostly lacking A lot of study on methodological choices and conceptual definitions need to be done Much more empirical research is needed Currently there are no metrics existing for measuring the IC of the relatively big public sector in Finland In addition to GDP, measuring citizens' health and happiness should become as important
ConnectIrmeli commented on posted to #seminaarikannu 23.11.2010 (en)

Intangible capital: Does it explain the unexplained? Prof. Hannu Piekkola, University of Vaasa We've got the ice-berg metaphor here as well - impacts on calculations e.g by: productivity depends on the level of intangibles management and marketing workers may be paid in shares or other non-wage benefits output may be difficult to measure or even understand what it as a whole consists of the increase in value added in Finland has partly compensated decreased physical capital investment - globalized firms have more success; 2000's was not very dynamic Intangibles and Tobin's q in high market value firms in Finland 1998-2008: Nokia, Metso, Finnair, UPM, Rautaruukki, Wrtsil, Fortum, Stora Enso, Kone, Outokumpu, M-Real, Kemira, Kesko, Konecranes, Comptel, Nokian renkaat, F-Secure, Vaisala, Hkscan, Ponsse, Raisio, Lemminkinen, Stockmann, Oriola => this list gives very basic information only, based actually on economical capital => the human capital is owned by the employees and a completely new way of measuring it needs to be developed; the current measuring models do not anyhow take into account emerging companies, markets & entrepreneurship
ConnectIrmeli commented on posted to #seminaarikannu 23.11.2010 (en)

Intellectual capital measurement and national policy agenda Prof. Ahmed Bounfour, Professor of Innovation and Intellectual Capital, Chair of European Intellectual Capital, University Paris-Sud Key issue: The deep transformation in companies and societies, as the knowledge (IC) becomes centric to the achievement of targeted performance => we should not be measuring anything on company level anymore <= we've already entered an era when we work in elastic spaces - global and local We are still working on an international standard for reporting the 'elastic space' point of view of (business) performance Intellectual capital renewability: What does it mean, how do we measure our impact on it Large basic and fundamental research issues exist - like GDP and the 'symmetry dimension' for intangibles What type of benchmarking can be established between regional areas for IC: EU, Japan, Asia, South America, North America, Africa... A lot has been achieved over the last years, e.g. dialogue between Europe and Asia/Japan and more and more China included A major requirement: Strategizing intangibles, e.g. looking at big issues (analytical, policy, decision making and impacts The meaning of emerging areas of development and diaspora kind of phenomena Individual assets are centric as we move into networked, elastic business spaces As a conclusion: We need a new research perspective - personal entrepreneurial competence and capacity are crucial

Intellectual Capital of Nations: Measuring and Ranking the Countries, Prof. Carol Yeh-Yun Lin, Taiwan Intellectual Capital Research Center, National Chenachi University Prof. Leif Edvinsson, Lund University We must take the veil away we carry in front of our eyes => expect bad ash clouds! Where does the intellectual in capital your / my university exist? Where does the IC of Tekes exist? Inside, outside, in the future or in the history? There are projects like worldici.com http://www.wici-global.com/ but they are late; we already needed the procedures they are planning to reach some time in future China plans to increase its investment in IC research from current 45 billion USD into 113 billion by 2020 A newly released book: National Intellectual Capital, A Comparison of 40 Countries http://www.nic40.org/ It's been said many times during this seminar, that we do not yet have real variables for analyzing intellectual capital - still the above mentioned book reports the following: Measuring market capital vs. process capital using the metrics we've had for last 15 years a clearly visible turn can be seen having happened 'round 2000 concerning the following countries: Portugal. Ireland, Greece and Spain <= there's been a big ignorance in form of not reacting in any way - NOTE: the statistics have been collected year by year; we are not currently discovering something that we did not have accumulative data on since 1995 In Finland IC level is currently relatively good. Still, when analyzing statistics since 1995, years of better economical capital did / do not correlate with IC. Simplified - it can be said that our IC level has stayed the same, no matter how much effort we put into the economical growth. This creates a crucial situation when we cannot automatically trust anymore that growing economy is our key driver.

@ConnectIrmeli Intellectaul capital has to be related to something: customer needs if we talk about business. Finnish companies are too dependent from EU which is a low and slow growth area. If we start measuring, that should include what we know about China, India, Russia, Brazil etc. Our BRIC knowledge is very weak. Our SMEs and micro companies are very poor exporters. We should not start to measure knowledge as such but how we can get this country moving again. What do you think, Irmeli?
visualradio commented on posted to #seminaarikannu Sotkamo 23.11.2010 (en)

@visualradio Excellent summary of everything that's been discussed here this morning. I see this kind of seminar held in Helsinki as a sign that we are waking up! What's been said here many times today is that we are in a very beginning in a number of fields. I take as a main message of today what prof. Ahmed Boufour said, that we've already entered the era of elastic (global and local) working spaces instead of working from behind silo kind of office and factory buildings. - Social networking skills is the issue - that's why we e.g. work on and work within qaiku :) Discussion just started and it's said that culture is the most solid way to measure business performance as well. => makes me think that we in Finland have vast amounts of cultural everything developed before we entered the productivity driven silo period of running businesses => that's the driving force to make this country moving - and we must remember that culture exists in our way of thinking and the daily choices we make based on it

Some notes from the discussion: input - output -thinking is the current starting point for the next development phase; historically we've only measured the economical performance we must change our focus from output only into outcome outcome originates from culture -> it becomes visible with 15 years delay societal innovation is what we need more competence on creating a new regime is required how do we use our revolutionary freedom - vs. is EU a 'lid' the era of head quarter driven businesses is over instead of measuring the amount of jobs, we must learn a way to make real value transforming actions our ways of measuring 'jobs' originates from the time we gave up slavery - nothing significant has happened re. collecting and comparing statistical figures This discussion - as in so many recent seminars I've attended and blogged about - dealt a lot with the whole process being culture bound. A key capacity to work on is our collaborative cultural competence. I discovered an interesting related research article (thanks to Pirjo Sthle for referring to it): Becoming an international man: Top manager masculinities in the making of a multinational corporation (2010) by Janne Tienari, (Helsinki School of Economics, Helsinki, Finland), Eero Vaara, (Hanken School of Economics, Helsinki, Finland), Susan Merilinen, (University of Lapland, Rovaniemi, Finland) Emerald link The abstract says: ...in the global world of business, national identity can also be interpreted as something positive and productive, contrary to how it has been previously treated... The article deals with the meaning of gender but what's a very important finding for me is that critically reflecting one's national identity has more meaning than constructing a transnational identity. The researches usually emphasize the point of view that becoming culturally competent means becoming something outside one's unreflected social and cultural self - like just jumping into wearing a mask. The critically reflected self is the key for good socio-cultural competence. This research forms a stepping stone for me I've missed. It's time to begin a next phase with sharper focus within my research.

New research on peoples capacity to adapt http://www.brookings.edu/opinions/201... "My more recent research on happiness around the world throws another monkey wrench into the equation (see Graham 2010). While the research confirms the stable patterns in the determinants of happiness worldwide, it also shows that there is a remarkable human capacity to adapt to both prosperity and adversity. Thus, people in Afghanistan are as happy as Latin Americans above the world average and Kenyans are as satisfied with their healthcare as Americans. Crime makes people unhappy, but it matters less to happiness when there is more of it; the same goes for both corruption and obesity. Freedom and democracy make people happy, but they matter less when these goods are less common. The bottom line is that people can adapt to tremendous adversity and retain their natural cheerfulness, while they can also have virtually everything including good health and be miserable."

Esim. Suomen menestys toisessa maalimansodassa perustui juuri alamaiskulttuurillisen johtamistavan sivuuttamiseen. Kun sek Saksa ett NL korostivat kskyjen noudattamista ja hierarkiaa, Suomen sodankynti korosti pienryhmien toimintaa. Menetelmt ja toimintahierarkiat eivt olleet trkeit, vaan tavoitteet ja niitten suorittaminen. Sitten taas.

Huh. Asettuu taas ymmrrys vhn eri asentoon. For some, this has already been decided and rehearsed (as youve forced your fiance to dance with you in the living room over a thousand times). However, cheap jewelry:http://www.raildress.com/Jewelry.html... , for some, you still havent found the perfect song for the wedding band to sing on your special day there are so many to choose from. Ive got a couple of suggestions here in hope that this makes the process a bit easier. First: You and your partner could spend a night in, listening to as many songs as you can that best reflect your relationship (maybe a song that reminds you both of the beginning stages or a song that says a lot about your relationship). Once youve done that, cheap Bridesmaid Dresses:http://www.dayweddingdress.net/ , you could think about whether you would like the wedding band to perform it, or whether you would like it played via CD or iPod. From our experience, titanium necklaces:http://www.cropdress.com/Necklaces.ht... , a good band can make the right song a lot more personal and intimate. Second: Weve had a couple of clients who have discovered their partners have two left feet or cring:http://www.thusdress.com/Rings.html e at the concept of dancing in front of large crowds. If this is you, perfect little black dress:http://www.areaclothes.com/Little-Bla... , DO NOT FEAR! There are a number of ways to manage this. INTRODUCTION:The word Bespoke literally means "as per the desire or choice or specification of the customer". The term is applied in a very broad sense. ,diamond watches for men:http://www.quietwatches.com/patek-phi... :http://www.mapshoes.net/christian-lou... It is used for various articles sold in the market. The articles to which the term is most applicable are clothes and footwear. The bespoke garments are nothing but those stitched by the tailor after taking the measurements of the customer. So,ladies watches sale:http://www.quietwatches.com/ferrari-c... , the term bespoke can be applied to any of the tailored objects. This is quiet opposite to the ready-made objects where everything is predetermined and done as per some of the standardized measurements.BENEFITS OF BESPOKE SHOES OVER READY-MADE SHOES:Bespoke shoes are the ones made as per the choice of the customer. Hence, replica swiss rolex milgauss watches:http://www.satwatches.net/swiss_rolex... , the customer can exert his full degree of choice to get the best performance from the product. This is the most satisfactory mode of purchase of any item. Besides the benefit of exercising one's choice and the benefit of getting utmost satisfaction, replica cartier watches:http://www.watch59.org/cartier-watche... , there are other benefits of bespoke shoes. One such additional benefit is the quality of bespoke shoes. Quality is one of the most important aspect of any item or shoe we purchase. In this competitive world every firm is busy to meet the orders and demands. The more is the supply greater is the income to the company. In this rush for bulk production, corum watch:http://www.watch59.org/corum-cheap-wa... , most of the companies do not take care about the quality of the product. :http://www.shoescatch.com/Gianmarco-L... It is in fact natural that there will be a degradation of the quality when the production increases. Yet,hublot watch:http://www.quietwatches.com/watches-h... , most of the companies that manufacture ready-made shoes are aware of this problem and are taking steps to overcome this, replica hublot:http://www.watch59.org/hublot-watches... , yet errors are often unavoidable. This problem is not seen in case of bespoke shoes since they are made only after placement of order and that too with the required amount of time for manufacturing. Everything is planned and decided properly before the start of work to make sure that the quality is very good and there are no errors. So,swiss watch:http://www.milkwatches.com /longines-c... , quality is never an issue in case of bespoke shoes. The material of ready-made shoes may not be what we expect. We have to be satisfied with the material with which the shoe has been already made and we cannot demand for any replacement. But,cheap watches for men:http://www.satwatches.net/mens-watche... , in case of bespoke shoes the material of the shoe including the quality of fabric can be chosen and decided by the customer. The design of the shoe is made as per our choice which is not in the case of ready-made shoes. The size of the ready-made shoes may not fit to people who are either above or below the standard shoe sizes.Hence, replica ferrair chronograph watches:http://www.satwatches.net /ferrair-chr... , bespoke shoes are the only option for the people whose foot size is either above or below the normal standards of shoes.Bespoke shoes also revives the traditional art of making handmade shoes. The cottage and small-scale industries can flourish again. This is a good source of income to the skilled person who are unemployed. Here skill is the sole basis on which a person can earn.CONCLUSION:Bespoke shoes are the most comfortable pieces of footwear. :http://www.mapshoes.net/christian-lou... In addition to comfort, swiss rolex replicas:http://www.watch59.org/swiss_rolex-su... , they also have handmade perfection. They are durable and long-lasting. Bespoke shoes are the only type of footwear which can provide us the maximum satisfaction, cheap g shock watch:http://www.milkwatches.com/rolex-day-... , as they are made as per our choice. So,u boat watch replica:http://www.satwatches.net/u_boat-watc... , if you are a looking for shoes of a particular size or design make sure to check out if the store takes orders for Bespoke shoes too. link

We knew from the beginning that we wanted the wedding to be traditional, elegant and warm. We decided on celebrating locally so we could share the beauty of Switzerland with our friends and family who would be travelling here for the occasion. For the ceremony we were able to use a beautiful church in the heart of the city where I had done my first communion and performed in school choir recitals many years ago We wanted to incorporate both Patrik's German/Swiss heritage and my English so we combined both languages into the ceremony and also included English and German readings from family members. For the reception, we fell in love with the rustic charm of the converted stables and wine cellar at Bocken, and felt it would be the perfect location for a romantic Autumn wedding. It had so much natural beauty and also allowed our out of town guests to stay on-site and relax at the hotel there. On the wedding day itself, we were blessed with a perfect sunny, crisp Autumn day almost better than we had dared hoped for I barely needed the vintage mink wrap I had bought! A classic wedding with?candelabras, bowties, and a?plethora?of neutral colors makes us weak in the knees every time, but this Zurich wedding might just take the cake. A gorgeous bride and handsome groom, so much love, captured?magnificently?by , high fashion, gold and white details, and a ballroom to die for are just SOME of the details that have my head spinning. What really made the day was the huge effort made by family and friends who flew in from around the world to celebrate with us it is so rare to have all the people we love in the same room! On the day itself everything just fell into place, all the staff at the venue were totally fantastic and reliable and our photographers Andrea and Marcus were an absolute dream to work with they felt like part of the wedding party and just captured the joy and magic of the day with their incredible talent. We truly felt so much love radiating from the family and friends around us and we now carry all the wonderful memories with us into married life, fashion accessories:http://www.pastshop.com ! Our story began in 1999 at the American International school of Zrich. Patrik was the cute new guy who joined our freshman class, and he seemed like such a kind and genuine guy I immediately had my eye on him! After eight months of flirting in the cafeteria, gym class, by the lockers, etc we finally started 'going out' officially. We were totally inseparable during our junior and senior years until we left for college when Patrik went to the US, and I went back to the UK. What followed was four tough years of trans-Atlantic long-distance and lots of tearful airport goodbyes, but we made it through to graduation! After some great years working and living together in London, we moved back to Zrich where it all began. One rainy December evening, Patrik took me for a surprise date to see the Christmas lights and proposed in a square overlooking the whole city twinkling with lights we then went for dinner at the restaurant where we had one of our first dates 11 years earlier. I have always loved the combination of white with touches of gold finding it very elegant and perfect against the autumn colours I also felt this would be a colour which would suit all my bridesmaids beautifully. I found my wedding dress very easily in a little bridal boutique in Nice, France with my mum, sisters and niece around me I fell in love with a strapless dress from the Spanish label Pronovias, made in a sumptuous ivory satin and I didn't want to leave the shop without it! We haven't been able to stop talking and reminiscing about the day since it was so full of incredible memories! For me, walking down the aisle with my dad and seeing the expression on Patrik's face was totally unforgettable and a favourite moment, as well as the heartfelt speeches made during the reception. Patrik's speech in particular was very emotional as it brought back the memories of our incredible 12 year journey to becoming husband and wife. At the end of the evening, seeing everybody out on the dance floor having fun together, regardless of language barriers or age was wonderful to see. For the wedding favours we chose assorted Lindt chocolates which we put inside white embossed boxes with a gold bow It was an easy choice for us as I went to primary school next door to the Lindt chocolate factory and felt it would be a very appropriate favour for a Swiss wedding! For the cake topper we had the idea of using a sculpture that we always liked the 'Love' sculpture by Robert Indiana. I found a gold replica from the Whitney Museum of American Art gift shop to top our chocolate cake, which we now have as a souvenir on our bookcase. The support of our parents and siblings really made such a difference to the wedding planning and made for some great memories too! Everybody pitched in where they could my dad carved our initials out of wood which we then painted gold to use on our gift table, plus size prom dresses:http://www.keptshop.net , my mum hand-painted gorgeous white and gold 'Mr' and 'Mrs' signs for our chairs, and my mother-in-law made dozens of beautiful white bows as decorations for the church pews. All those little details, made with love, came together to make it very special. Related Article: mens clothing- astrantia:http://www.qaiku.com/channels/show/Qa... http://www.pastshop.com
