Algebra I Course Description and Expectations Ms. Westfield kwestfield@plymouth.k12.ma.us Blog: http://mswestfield.blogspot.com/ Welcome to 9th grade algebra.

The primary focus for this class is to learn Algebra I concepts which you will be tested on in the 10th grade MCAS. We will be covering topics that include: algebraic communication, inequalities, proportional reasoning, and probability, along with other topics. The most important thing I expect from you is to respect your education. Do your best every day and your opportunities are limitless. Other expectations: Arrive to class on timeyou are expected to be in your seat and ready to work when the bell rings. Come to class preparedbring all the appropriate materials to class and all assignments should be completed on time. Ask questionsAsking questions is an important part of being an active learner Participate in all classroom activitiesyou will be working on both individual and small group activities. Keep a current and organized notebookyou are required to keep a notebook that will consist of your notes, worksheets and handouts. You will have frequent notebook checks that count toward your grade. Be Respectfulto yourself, expect success; to your classmates and their materials, to the classroom and the learning environment. Appropriate language at all times, please! Required Materials: 1. Agenda 2. Pen or pencil 3. 3 ring binder and/or folder 4. paper

Grading: Your grades will be determined using a point system. Classwork/Homework=10-50 points Notebook check=10 points Quizzes=20-50 points Tests/Projects=50-100 points. Your grade will be based on what you earn out of the total number of points. I will try to give you lots of options to show me what you have learned in ways that work best for you. Homework: Homework will be announced every class. I will also post the homework on my blog each day. Points will be adjusted according to the amount of work completed. Make Up Work: If you are absent from class, you are responsible for all the notes and work you missed. For every day you were absent you have two days to make up the work. [YOU CAN ALWAYS EMAIL ME] I will be available afterschool on Mondays. If you wish to see me another day, I will need notice. Do your best, expect to succeed. I am here to help you, but you are the one in charge of your educationbe an active participant in the learning process.
