INTRODUCTION:What is OPD? A hospital department where patients receive diagnoses and/or treatment but do not stay overnight. Out Patient Department (OPD) Services is one of the important aspects of Hospital Administration. OPD services otherwise called as Ambulatory Care Services. It is a shop window for patients, like window-shopping in a super market where articles are laid down to chose and pick. OPD is the mirror of the hospital, which reflects the functioning of the hospital being the first point of contact between the patient and the hospital staff .Patients visit the OPD for various purposes, like consultation, day care treatment, investigation, referral, admission and post discharge follow up. Not only for treatment but also for preventing and promotive services like, health check up, Immunization, Physiotherapy and so on. The Ambulatory Care Services is gaining popularity and is in demand due to "Day Care Services" and patient need not stay at hospital. This is helping both the patient and hospital as patient remains at house near the relatives and the hospital is benefited by less demand on hospital beds there by reducing cost on in patients. Therefore, providing the best OPD Services is one of the primary goals of Hospital Administrator.

OUT PATIENT DEPARTMENT IN NIMS HOSPITAL


In NIMS hospital outpatient department (OPD) is situated at the basement of hospital. The infrastructure of OPD is based on modern methods in many aspects. In NIMS hospital OPD is divided into different functional departments such as department of surgery, department of orthopaedics, department of obstetrics gynaecology, department of paediatrics etc. Departmentization of OPD helps to reduce the crowd in OPD and reduce time. It is more convenient for patient to get the treatment in their concern department of OPD.

OPD Timing 9am to 4pm

Research Methodology Research Methodology and design


Introduction Under this section the chapter will show the methods and techniques that will be used to collect and analyze data during research. The research to be carried out is on enhancing effective inventory management in APEX hospital. Areas to be touched on include research design, target population, types of data, sources of data, tools to be used to collect data and the sampling design to be used.

Research Methodology:A Research Methodology defines the purpose of the research, how it proceeds, how to measure progress and what constitute success with respect to the objectives determined for carrying out the research study. Research design:The research design is descriptive in nature. It is based on data collected through
structured questionnaire from the respondent.

Target Population:The study targets the patients of OPD in NIMS hospital Primary data will be collected through questionnaires which will be the main source of data and

SAMPLING DESIGN:Sampling is the process of obtaining about an entire population by examining only a part of it. Sampling plans calls for three decisions. a) Sample unit b) Sample size c) Sampling procedure The design to be adopted for the study will be based on convenient sampling. The population for the study will consist of employees in the APEX hospital.

SAMPLING PROCEDURE:- For the study, respondent were selected on the basis of random sampling. SOURCE OF THE DATA:-The study requires both primary and secondary data.

PRIMARY SOURCE: Questionnaires

SECONDARY SOURCE: Indirect observation Library and research work Internet, web pages and blogs Articles Books Secondary data will be used to analyze the primary data in light of real world situations.

ANALYSIS OF THE DATA:The primary data will be analyzed with the help of statistical tools and techniques.

DATA PRESENATION TOOLS USED:Primary data was collected through the questionnaire by distributing questionnaires; questionnaires with both close ended and open ended questions have been used as sample respondents. The facts are presented in the form of pie- charts and bars.

LIMITATIONS OF STUDY: The study is confined to NIMS hospital, jaipur only. The study was conducted on the assumptions that the information is given by respondent.

Sample size is restricted to 9 respondents. Time constraints.

Findings& inferences: 86% patients were satisfied with the treatments of doctors in OPD of orthopaedics. Patients were satisfied with the environment of the hospital and the amount paid by the patients on the medical aid. Patients have no doubt on the treatments of the doctors and86% take interest in the patients as a person in OPD of orthopaedics. 64% patients were satisfied with the care of nursing staff and 86% patients expressed that nursing staff are discourteous in OPD of orthopaedics. 43% patients got easy asses to the medical specialists. Patients got easy admission in the hospital and they were satisfied with the services in the OPD. Patients expressed that doctors do not ignore what the patients says and listen carefully to the patients. 57% patients were satisfied with the general cleanness of the hospital. Patients were satisfied whit the time waited for the X- ray and thoroughness in the treatments Patients were dissatisfied with the maintaining of the toilets in the hospital . 72% patients were dissatisfied with the food of the hospital.

Conclusions: NIMS hospital provides good services at the reasonable prise in the OPD. NIMS hospital provides clean environment in the hospital. In NIMS hospital doctors are providing good services in the OPD. NIMS hospital reduces the waiting time of the patients in the OPD. Patients were not satisfied with the nursing staff of the OPD( in orthopaedics department) Patients were not satisfied with the toilet maintains and food services of the hospital.

Recommendations: NIMS hospital should improve the maintenance of the toilet in the OPD. NIMS hospital should provide training to the nursing staffs of OPD. NIMS hospital should improve the quality of food in hospital. NIMS hospital should improve the general cleanness in the OPD. NIMS hospital should provide easy access of the patients for specialists in OPD.
