On Semiopen Sets and Semicontinuous Functions in Intuitionistic Fuzzy Topological Spaces

Abstract: The purpose of this paper is to introduce semiopen sets in intuitionistic fuzzy topological spaces.
After giving the fundamental definitions and necessary examples we introduce the definitions of intuitionistic fuzzy semicontinuity, intuitionistic fuzzy semicompactness, intuitionistic fuzzy semiconnectedness and studied several preservations properties and some characterizations theorems. We see that every intuitionistic fuzzy open set is intuitionistic fuzzy semiopen and every intuitionistic fuzzy continuous function is intuitionistic fuzzy semicontinuous. Key words: Intuitionistic fuzzy topology, intuitionistic fuzzy semiopen sets, intuitionistic fuzzy semicontinuous functions, intuitionistic fuzzy semi 5 connectedness, intuitionistic fuzzy semicompactness.

I.

Introduction

After the introduction of the concept of fuzzy sets by Zadeh [10] several researches were conducted on the generalizations of the notion of fuzzy set. The idea of intuitionistic fuzzy set was first published by Atanassov [1] and D.Coker [6], [7] introduced the notion of intuitionistic fuzzy topological spaces, intuitionistic fuzzy continuity, compactness, connectedness and some other related concepts. I.M.Hanafy [9] introduced the concept of completely continuous functions in intuitionistic fuzzy topological spaces. In this paper we introduce and study the concept of semiopen sets and semicontinuous functions in intuitionistic fuzzy topological spaces. II. Preliminaries: Throughout this section, we shall present the fundamental definitions and results of intuitionistic fuzzy sets and intuitionistic fuzzy topology as given by Atanassov[2] and Coker[7]. Definition 2.1[2] Let X be a nonempty fixed set. An intuitionistic fuzzy set (IFS for short) A is an object having the form, = { , , () : }, where the functions : : denote the degree of membership( namely ) and the degree of nonmembership ( namely ()) of each element x to the set A, and 0 + () 1 for each . For the sake of simplicity, we shall use the symbol = , , for the IFS = { , , () : }. Obviously, every fuzzy set A on a nonempty set X is an IFS having the form, = { , , 1 : }. Definition 2.2[2] Let X be a nonempty set, and let the IFSs A and B be in the form = { , , () : }, = { , , () : } and let :j be an arbitrary family of IFSs in X. In this case the pair (, ) is called an intuitionistic fuzzy topological space (IFTS, for short) and each IFS in is known as an intuitionistic fuzzy open set (IFOS, for short) in . The complement of IFOS in IFTS (, ) is called an intuitionistic fuzzy closed set (IFCS) in . Definition 2.6[7] Let , be an IFTS and = , , be an IFS in X. The the intuitionistic fuzzy closure and fuzzy interior of are defined by cl () = {: is an IFCS in and } and int () = {: is an IFOS in and } Definition 2.7[7, 9] Let (, ) and (, ) be two IFTSs and : a function. Then (i) is fuzzy continuous iff the preimage of each IFOS in is an IFOS in . (ii) is fuzzy completely continuous iff the preimage of each IFOS in is an IFROS in . Definition 2.8[9] Let : be a function. The graph : of is defined by = , , . Lemma 2.9[9] Let : be the graph of a function : . If is an IFS of and is an IFS of , then 1 = ( 1 .

III.

Intuitionistic fuzzy semiopen sets:

Definition 3.1 Let be an IFS of IFTS (, ), then is said to be (i) an intuitionistic fuzzy semiopen (IFSO) set of if there exists a IFO set such that , and (ii) an intuitionistic fuzzy semiclosed (IFSC) set of if there exists a IFC set such that () . It can be easily shown that, closure of an IFO (IFC) set of (, ) is IFSO (IFSC) set. Remark 3.2 It is obvious that every IFO (IFC) set in an IFTS (, ) is IFSO (IFSC) but the converse is not true. Example 3.3 Let = , , consider the IFSs on X are = { , 0.5,0.2 , , 0.5,0.4 }; = , 0.4,0.5 ; , 0.6,0.3 ; = , 0.5,0.2 , , 0.6,0.3 ; = {( , 0.4,0.5 , , 0.5,0.4 }; E= , 0.6,0.1 , , 0.7,0.2 ; = {( , 0.1,0.5 , , 0.2,0.6 }; Then = {0 , 1 , , , , } is a IFT on . Also we see that = 1 and 0 = . Thus is IFSO set but not IFO of (, )and is IFSC set but not IFC of (, ). Theorem 3.4 Let (, ) be an IFTS. Then the following are equivalent: (i) is IFSC set (ii) is IFSO set (iii) () (iv) () Proof: (i)(ii) By definition there exists a closed set in (, ) such that () , this implies, () , using proposition 3.15 of D.Coker[7], we get, cl( ) where is an IFO set in , . (i)(iii) By definition there exists a IFC set in (, ) such that () and hence using proposition 3.16 of D. Coker[7], we get, () () . Since () is the largest open set contained in , we have () () i.e, () . (iii)(i) This follows by taking = () i.e, () . Also we know that = and hence () , as = () is a closed set, therefore is IFSC. (ii) (iv) can similarly be proved. Theorem 3.5 Union of a finite number of IFSO sets is a IFSO set and intersection of a finite number of IFSC sets is a IFSC set. Proof: 1st part Let 1 , 2 , . , be IFSO sets of (, ) then their exist IFO sets 1 , 2 , . . of (, ) such that , = 1 2 . Generalizing the idea of proposition 3.16, D.Coker[7] we get, = ( ) Also , Hence is IFSO. 2nd part Similar. Proposition 3.6 Let , be an IFTS and let = { , , () : } be IFSO sets in , then ={ , : } is semiopen in (X, 1 ) and = { , () : } is semiclosed in (, 2 ), where 1 = { : } and 2 = 1 : are FTS on X in Changs sense. Proof: Given is IFSO, then there exists IFO set such that . Let = , , and suppose that the family of IFC sets containing are indexed by { , , : }. Then we have, = , , and , for each . By definition of IFSO sets, we get , , , , , , , each i.e, and , each i.e, (1 ) and (1 ) , each i.e, ( ) and int( ) i.e, ={ , : } is semiopen in (X, 1 ) and = { , () : } is semiclosed in (, 2 ). Example 3.7 Any FTS (,0 ) in the sense of Chang is obviously an IFTS in the form = {: 0 } whenever we identify a fuzzy set in whose membership function is with its counter part = , , 1 . If is fuzzy semiopen in (,0 ) then = , , 1 is IFSO in (,). Since is semi open in (,0 ), there exists a open set in (,0 ) such that ( ), i.e 1 1 1 = ( 1 ), i.e ( 1 ) 1 1 Therefore (1 ) is semi closed in (,0 ). Thus we conclude that = , , 1 = , , 1 (). Hence is IFSO in (,).

IV.

Intuitionistic fuzzy semicontinuous functions:

Definition 4.1 Let (,) and (,) be two IFTSs and : a function. Then is said to be intuitionistic fuzzy semicontinuous (IFSCn) iff the preimage of each IFO set in is an IFSO in . Remark 4.2 Every intuitionistic fuzzy continuous function is intuitionistic fuzzy semicontinuous but the converse is not true. Example 4.3 Let = , , consider the IF sets on are = , 0.5,0.2 , , 0.5,0.4 ; = , 0.5,0.2 , , 0.5,0.2 . Then = {0 , 1 , } is a IFT on . Let us consider a function : (, ) (, ) defined by = = , then is IFS continuous but it is not IF continuous, because 1 = , . Definition 4.4 Let (,) and (,) be two IFTSs and : a function. Then is said to be intuitionistic fuzzy semiopen mapping if the image of each IFO set in is an IFSO set in . It is obvious that every IF open mapping [7] is IF semiopen mapping. Example 4.5 Let (,0 ) and (,0 ) be two FTSs in the sense of Chang. (a) If : is fuzzy semicontinuous in the usual sense, then in this case, is IFS continuous. , , 1 = , 1 ( ), 1 (1 ) = , 1 ( ), 1 1 ( ) is IF semiopen set in . As 0 and f is fuzzy semiopen, therefore 1 ( ) is fuzzy semiopen in (,0 ) and 1 1 ( ) is fuzzy semiclosed in (,0 ). (b) Let : be a fuzzy semiopen function in the usual sense. Then is also IF semiopen function in the sense of above definition. Theorem 4.6 A function : (, ) (, ) is IFSCn iff 1 () is an IFSC set in , for each IFC set in . Proof: 1st part Let is IFSCn and also let be any IF closed set in , then is an IFO set in . By definition of IFSCn function, 1 ( ) is IFSO in (, ) i.e 1 () is IFSO in (, ) i.e 1 () is IFSC in (, ). 2nd part similar Theorem 4.7 If is IFSCn function and is IF continuous then is IFS continuous. Proof: obvious. Theorem 4.8 Let : (, ) (, ) be a function and : , be the graph of the function , then is IFS continuous if is so. Proof: Let be any IFO set in , then 1 = 1 1 =1 1 = 1 1 . Since is IFO in , 1 is IFO in . Also, the fact that is IFSC implies that 1 1 is IFSO in . Hence 1 is IFSO in and so is IFS continuous. Definition 4.9 Let (, ) be an IFTS and an IFS in . (a) If a family { , , : } of IFSO sets in satisfies the condition { , , : }, then it is called a fuzzy semi open cover of . A finite subfamily of the fuzzy semi open cover { , , : } of , which is also a fuzzy semi open cover of , is called a finite subcover of { , , : }. (b) An IFS = , , in an IFTS (, ) is called IF semi compact iff every IF semi open cover of A has a finite subcover. Theorem 4.10 Let : (, ) (, ) be an IF semicontinuous function. If is IF semicompact in (, ) then () is IF compact in (, ). Proof: Let = { : }, where = { , , : } is a IF open cover of . Then = { 1 : } is a IF semi open cover of . Since is IF semi compact, there exists a finite subcover of i.e there exists , = 1,2, , such that 1 . Hence 1 = ( 1 ) . =1 =1 =1 =1 Therefore, is also IF compact. Definition 4.11 An IFTS (, ) is said to be IF semi 5 -connected if the only IF sets which are both IFSO and IFSC are 0 and 1 . (, ) is said to be IF semi 5 -disconnected if it is not IF semi 5 -connected. Theorem 4.12 Let : (, ) (, ) be an IF semicontinuous surjection. If (, ) is fuzzy semi 5 -connected, then (, ) is fuzzy 5 -connected. Proof: On the contrary, suppose that (, ) is fuzzy 5 -disconnected. Then there exists an IF open and closed set such that 1 and 0 . Since is IF semicontinuous , 1 () is both an IFSO and IFSC set. The equalities 1 = 1 or 1 = 0 cannot hold. [Because, otherwise we have = 1 = 1 = 1 and = 1 = 0 = 0 ] Hence (, ) is IF 5 -connected.
