Maturity Benchmarks Survey Sheet

School Pseudonym: ABB College (A Bit Behind) Your Name or Group Name: Tara Peters Clearly mark the box that best represents the level of maturity achieved Emergent Islands Integrated behavioral x Policy resource/infrastructure x Intelligent Evaluator Comments Appropriate technology is not always considered. Administrators recognize they have no fomral plan in place, but they have hired an outside for profit firm to help them develop one. Planning tends to revolve around questions of PC vs. Mac and there is no clear vision of how technology will be used in the school. Faculty discouraged from developing their own plans, and administration's plans do not appear to be tied to other plans, or if they are that information is not readily available. If policy exists is not widely known, and budgeting appears to be limited to replacement costs for existing equipment.

ADMINISTRATIVE

Budget Minimal budget. A broken computer can take up to a year to be replaced after multiple requests. Staff and faculty are encouraged to keep lesson plans and similar on the school's hard drive, but this is primarily to the benefit of administration. Faculty and staff have access to the system, but it is used mainly to keep track of the administrative tasks and records assoiciated with teaching. Students are not provided with an email address. Many faculty share desk space and computers. The LMS is considered unreliable and not secure by faculty, so it is not utlized. The email system is routinely purged so information cannot be stored, and system wide losses of all email data have occurred.

Electronic Information

Electronic Information The school offers electronic access to the public library system via any of the available computers at the school. However, there are fewer than 30 available computers and they are not available to all students. Tests given on the LMS are not secure so the system is not generally used for testing or any other sort of assessment. Cheating has been discovered at the testing center, which is not always well monitored, so instructors must proctor their own exams. Power Point presentations are the single most popular use of technology for teaching in the school. Some programs also utilize recorded lectures and demonstrations.

CURRICULAR

Curriculular Integration Some programs have integrated mosre technology (links to YouTube for example) or recorded lectures and demonstrations, but most have not. Computers used regularly for Power Points and similar, but not much other use in the classroom. If access to appropriate technology means having a computer and a projector system to display Power Points to the class, then the school is doing very well. If appropriate technology means any more than this, then it is lacking. If students use technology at the school it is because in over 90% of the cases they brought their won devices from home. Few students have any acces to technology through the school.

Most are not aware of policies, if they exist, or that any may be in the works. Administrators are the only ones involved in the decision-making process, and the process is not discussed with the faculty. There is apparently a plan in the works, guided by an outside company, but that is all that is known at this time, even to upper level administrators. Training is requested, but has not been forthcoming. Faculty is largely on its own for any training and for dissemination of important information.

Staff would utlize support if it were available. There are far too few technical staff to support faculty and staff. Students and staff have access to the internet. Filters block a great deal of content for students, some for teachers. Every area of the school has access to the internet over a highspeed connection. The network is not used for anything more than basic purposes. As far as anyone at the school knows the school is either not connected to a larger network, or if it is, that is not widely known. Does not appear to exist. The internet is used frequently, but not integrated into the cirriculum. High-speed internet and wireless are available.

Email is used by most staff and faculty. Students use their own personal email. Email is available to faculty and staff, but no school email addresses are assigned to students. Many faculty and staff would use technology more extensively thatn they do if it were available and if training and support were provided. There is little implementation because there is little if any training and support. Some students records are being scanned into the sytem. Computers, internet, and email utilized by most faculty and staff.
