UPDATE ON THE URU.

Rex Gilroy. Copyright Rex Gilroy 2012.

The ruins of this mighty Australian lost Stone-Age civilisation continue to give up their secrets. When I first discovered the type specimen of this civilisation back in 1965 - an altar carved in sandstone in the form of a serpent atop a 15m tall mound - at a dense scrub covered Blue Mountains site, quickly followed by the finding of other crumbling structures nearby, I was mystified as to the origin of these megalithic ruins. The serpent altar, standing on a north-south axis, measured 1.7m long by 70cm wide and 1.2m high. Carved in a curved aspect, it bore a mouth groove at its north end facing east. At the time its import escaped me but today the serpent image is known to depict Nim, the Sun-God of His worshippers. Yet who were His worshippers? In between the discoveries of many other mysterious megalithic sites across the Blue Mountains and elsewhere, I began finding examples of the written rock script of this people. However, it took until 1974 for me to make a breakthrough in its translation. The script, consisting of pictographic symbols, also included ogham and a number of other letter symbols familiar to the Old World scripts of Sumer, other Near and Middle-East and European lands, and which also appeared in ancient rock scripts of the South-East Asian and West Pacific regions. I soon realised that the Australian written language was the mother script from which all others had, over a vast period of time, evolved. In the course of my years of translation efforts I had repeatedly come across a word Uru and came to realise that this was the name of this people. Readers wishing to know more can read URU The Lost Civilisation of Australia [2005] by Rex and Heather Gilroy. As our book reveals in greater detail, the Uru gradually migrated beyond Australia into Asia, the Near and Middle-East and Europe introducing their megalithic culture in the course of their movements. Just how long ago this event occurred is debateable, but it took place before the rise of the Old World civilisations. The earliest Uruan script evolved alongside the crude megalithic architecture of this people. If it is indeed the earliest written language it must pre-date the earliest Mediterranean script of 3500 BCE and if so, then we must accept that people knew how to read and write before the onset of the Copper Age [ie long before the advent of the Bronze-Age, 2000-1400 BCE]. The age of the Australian mother civilisation can be roughly deduced from a comparison of datings of the major Old World megalithic culture sites. For example, the age of Englands Stonehenge and Frances Carnac sites date around 3000 BCE. The stone arrangements and megalithic tombs and temples of Malta and parts of Eastern Europe are dated to 4500 BCE, while the datings for those of Central Asia, India and southern China, Japan and island South-East Asia vary between 5000 and 8000 BCE. Some monuments in Papua New Guinea are at least 10,000 years old, whereas geological evidence alone suggests many of the
2

Mysterious Australia Newsletter April, 2012.

earliest and more primitive Australian structures date back far earlier than 50,000 years BP [Before Present], the earliest perhaps about 100,000 years BP. These datings surely demonstrate that the earliest stone arrangements of mankind were erected in Australia. As our book reveals, the Australian megalithic arrangmenets, which included lengthy alignments of standing stones and circles, were erected for astronomical/agricultural purposes. Yet who were the Uru? Fossil evidence recovered by the author, consisting of skulls, shows them to have been populations of the earliest anatomically modern humans, Homo sapiens, who developed from Australian Homo erectus by around 400,000-300,000 years BP. Thus, the earliest modern humans, Homo sapiens, evolved in Australia before the earleist African examples [ie around 150,000 years BP]. The Uru also preceded the arrival of the earliest Aboriginal people from South-East Asia [around 50,000 years BP]. ***** The Uru were never metallurgists in Australia, this development came about among their migrating populations beyond our shores later in their history. In Australia they remained a stone, bone and wood culture, but one which, as their megalithic monuments indicate, was raised to a high standard. According to the accounts of our Aboriginal people, the Uru were a pale-skinned [ie white] race of culture-heroes who gave them elements of their culture. Indeed, throughout the Old World wherever the megaliths stand, the name Uru was synonymous with a white-skinned race. These traditions are found from old Mesopotamia down through South-East Asia. Such traditions continue on into the Pacific, where later migrations of the Uru spread to New Zealand and the West Pacific Islands [including Easter Island where the name Uru is commonplace] to the Americas, where the name is synonymous with a mighty white race of astronomer-priests and builders. These traditions are found also widely from Mexico to Peru in the legendary accounts of the Mayans, Aztecs, Chimu, Incans and other cultures of pre-Columbian times. It seems obvious then, how the later civilisations of the Old and New Worlds possessed traditions of a lost paradise of mankind that lay in the southernmost region of the world where Australia is situated, a great red rock standing at its centre marking the centre of the world! That Ayres Rock [aka Uluru] was somehow known to the ancient Egyptians, Phoenicians, Celts, Tibetans, Chinese and others of the Old World, as well as remote Pacific Islanders and the great Amerindian cultures of Mexico to Peru show that the race-memories of this land, given them by the Uru, led the BronzeAge civilisations of the Old World and the later Amerindian peoples to undertake cross-ocean voyages which resulted in their discovery of their Land of Origin. As our readers are aware of all the accounts of Old World pyramids, rock inscriptions, ancient opencut mining operations and other remains found in Australia [see Pyramids in the Pacific The Unwritten History of Australia [2000] and Pyramids of Destiny Lost Pacific Colonies of the Bronze-Age GodKings [2009] reported by the Gilroys] there is no need to go into detail here. ***** The main purpose of this update on the Uru is to report recent discoveries of an exciting nature that will now become part of a book now in preparation concerning Uruan influence upon the pre-cultured Amerindians and their later cross-Pacific voyages to their motherland of origin! From the early days of my research into what were to become known as Uruan culture sites on the Blue Mountains, I pondered a vague Amerindian appearance in the style of the altars and other carved images. Back then I did not realise that I was looking at their earliest artistic style. In our March 2012 Mysterious Australia newsletter my article The Uru and Amerindia I reported the Wednesday 22nd April 2009 discovery of a weathered stone head of a temple priest nearby the remains of an ancient Uruan Nim Sun-worship temple, on a Coonabarabran Central Western NSW property. The interesting feature of this image was that it showed a long-eared individual. This relic revealed the practice of ear-lengthening, so well known to the former Easter Islanders and was practiced by the Uruan priestly caste [and monarchy] untold thousands of years before its spread across the Pacific. I have little doubt that it was the Uru who introduced the practice to pre-Polynesian New Zealand, other Pacific islands including Easter Island, the Hawaiians and the shores of Mexico and Peru in pre-Amerindian culture times, the practice being carried on as these peoples developed their own [Uru-inspired] cultures. Since the Coonabarabran find, others have come to light strengthening my theory; such as the Wednesday 22nd February 2012 discovery of the long-eared] Sun-priest Gamo stone head found in Katoomba bushland; the Thursday 15th March 2012 find of the large long-eared stone head carving of the Sun-priest Gi, the 15cm tall by 52cm wide head carving of the Sun-priest Yala, discovered by the author in a rock shelter and the Mt Victoria clifftop Nim temple find of the 43cm tall by 25cm wide head carving of the Sun-priest Moko.

The latest significant discovery is the weathered inscribed head of King Cos, priest-King of the SunGod discovered as part of a lengthy granite stone alignment at a major solar temple, situated within the lost city of Kanangra where Heather and I have worked for years together with our field assistant Greg Foster, measuring, recording and photographing ruins of temples, pyramids and other structures, including an inscription several years ago giving the name City of I-ula. A big find for me after an 18 year search for an inscription bearing the citys name. The massive head of King Cos has missing parts on its left side but still shows two eyes, a long nose and mouth. There is a 1.1m tall by 40cm wide long-ear on the right side of the head. There is a head-dress bearing the inscription King Cos of the Sun and the image stands 2m tall by 2.2m wide at the base and 2.3m deep. A nearby boulder forming part of the alignment contains the inscriptions Cos of the Sun, the builder of Iula. At this temple of the light at Nims rising cry out in wonder. Interesting is the fact that Uruan monarchs, all priest-kings and queens, claimed descent from the Sun-God Nim. The claim of descent from the Sun-God echoes from e old Pharonic Egypt to Mesopotamia to Asia and the former kingdoms of the Americas a ghostly influence of old Uru? There have been other significant Uruan finds not involving images of long-eared priests, such as the rediscovery of an eagle altar [I-na, the Eagle of the Sun who carried Nim across the heavens each day] lost for many years. Standing upon a weathered three-terraced pyramidal sandstone mound at a Blue Mountains site, it measures 4m tall by the same in width, the eagle I-na cut in relief measures 1.35m long by 95cm wide. On Sunday 11th March 2012 I found a 1.32m tall by 1.7m wide, 84cm deep sandstone rock in the same area which bears the crude face of Nim with a forehead inscription, and another atop the head. The forehead message reads: Behold I-na who watches Nim. Behold Nim and Ara [ie the Uruan Moon goddess and Nims sister] who Ay-Is Eye [ie Supreme Being of Uru] and benevolent rays enfolds in love. All dance at the quarter Moon. Women dance in praise of the Goddess and pour libations from the Moon Cup. The inscription continues onto the forehead Nim God of Uru and Ara Goddess we praise you both. All dance with joy. At Nims command we praise the arrival of Eee, Goddess of Spring, and at her altar here at her hidden temple we give offerings of praise to her, watched by Nim on high, led by Sui-ko of the Sun. As this article is being prepared other significant Uruan remains have begun turning up in a secluded Blue Mountains gully. I am fortunate indeed to be the discoverer of a lost civilisation for it places me alongside Heinrich Schliemann, discoverer of the lost city of Troy [1873], Sir Arthur Evans who unearthed the lost Cretan civilisation [1901] and a handful of others, all of whom like myself were told by university desk-professors that they were wasting their time and money searching for a myth. Thanks to such far-sighted field-working researchers mythical civilisations now stand revealed and the work of the Gilroys has likewise revealed the Australian lost mother civilisation of Uru. What an exciting life we lead! -0-

While exploring a densely-wooded gully at Mt Victoria on Sunday 11th March, 2012 Rex stumbled upon a large sandstone rock once carved in the form of a Nim head. Part of a rock wall over a metre tall, the head is inscribed above the head, across the forehead and below the eyes and both sides of the mouth. It measures 1.32m tall by 1.7m wide and 84cm deep. The face inscription was translated to read: Nim God of Uru, and Ara Goddess Moon, we praise you both. All dance in praise and joy. THE BLACKTOWN, NSW URU SITE.

Rex Gilroy. Copyright Rex Gilroy 2012.

While on a visit to see our leading field assistant, Greg Foster at his Blacktown home on Tuesday 27th March, 2012 he took me to a bushy location in the Blacktown area to show me a large sandstone head he had recently uncovered. When I saw the relic there was no mistaking the inscription on the head: Nim the Sun. Here was Nim in smiling aspect, a commonplace feature of images of the God at sites beyond Sydney such as on the Blue Mountains, indeed elsewhere across Australia. The head measures 72cm tall by 53cm wide across the head and is 20cm deep. Gregs find shows there was an Uru presence in the Blacktown district going back as recently as 10,000 years ago and earlier. We wonder just how many more remains of Australias lost civilisation lie hidden in out-of-the-way places not yet destroyed by land development. Here is a subject for a future Mysterious Australia article! -0-

NEW CHIMU SITE ON THE HAWKESBURY RIVER.

Rex Gilroy. Copyright Rex Gilroy 2012.

On Wednesday 12th January 2011 while exploring a rainforest at Narooma, on the NSW far south coast, I unearthed an ancient clay pottery head in two large fragments [see Mysterious Australia newsletter August 2011 issue]. Subsequent research soon afterwards identified the relic as a pottery head of the Chimu MoonGod SinAn. Our Narooma friends and assistants Alan and Antji Westrip were thrilled at our find and Antji continued her interest in our Chimu discoveries until cancer claimed this remarkable woman last September. This find set off a search for more evidence supporting the presence hereabouts, of Chimu colonists who had crossed the Pacific Ocean following drift currents on large balsa wood sailed rafts to reach Australias east coast in pre-Spanish conquest times. The Chimu culture arose on Perus north-west coast around 1000AD building a capital city at Chan Chan where it is estimated that anything up to 1,000 people lived prior to the civilisations spread into the Andes under the ruler Nancen Pinco after 1370 only to be conquered by the Incas around 1470. The Incas were the last and largest pre-Columbian civilisation in South America. It created a vast Andean empire between 1438-1532, which was subsequently destroyed by the Conquistadores of Francisco Pizarro in the 1530s. Further searching in the Narooma region proved fruitful with the discovery of remains of an ancient settlement situated along the edge of a rainforest creek, followed by the remains of two earthen and stone stepped pyramids further inland in gum forest country where the earth-moving equipment of loggers some 30 years ago had unknowingly destroyed much of the structures. The Narooma colony would pre-date the Inca conquest back in Peru. Our attention has lately turned to locating ancient farming sites where the Chimu would have grown maize and/or corn brought with them, traces of such farming having been uncovered on some pacific Islands. On our second visit to the rainforest creekside settlement remains on Tuesday 22nd February 2011 we recovered a number of portrait stones and other carvings. One portrait stone was a slab 34.5cm tall by 19.5cm wide and 1.6cm deep displaying the image of a squatting human figure, a male with an ear plug and clutching a staff. Glyphs beneath this left profile figure identified him as Cahepu the High Priest. ***** While our work continues in the Narooma district a second Chimu colony discovery seems about to be revealed, with finds of Chimu-style weathered stone images having just turned up at a site overlooking the Hawkesbury River. This latest discovery was made on Tuesday 3rd April when Heather , our leading field assistant Greg Foster and myself visited a high plateau overlooking the Hawkesbury River intending to search for Uru rock inscriptions and other traces of this people. It was while searching along a 3 metre tall sandstone cliff that I came across a wind-blown rock shelter. Greg joined me and we suddenly found ancient weathered sandstone images. I picked up the image of a squatting man with a cap measuring 23cm tall by 12cm wide and 11.5cm deep. I then came across a typical Chimu style head with a solid pipe-like projection atop the head. It resembles more elaborate images depicting chieftains. This relic was measured at 18.5cm tall by 10.5cm wide across the centre and 5.5cm deep. Greg found a 27.5cm tall stylised bird image which was 9cm wide and 8cm deep. ***** Heather and I made a return visit to this site on Saturday 14th April 2012 so I could make a search for possible nearby settlement remains. Dense, dry scrub however defeated me. I did notice a stone passageway extending through the scrub up the rise to the rock shelter, obviously used by worshippers attending the cult site at this rock shelter. It was in rubble atop the passageway that I recovered a 17.5cm tall parrot image, being 19.3cm wide and 6cm deep. My next find, half-buried in dirt, was the image of a male head with a cap and signs of a beard. This weathered relic measured 25cm tall by 13.3cm wide across a wide base, and 7.5cm deep. By now excited I searched about for more. It was not long before I recovered a large ironstone head, some of the right face was missing with other missing sections in the chin and left face area. The openmouthed image also once had a head-dress of some kind with a groove down the centre, ending above the eyes. Measuring 28.5cm tall by 10.5cm wide across the top of the head, it was 7.5cm in depth.
21

Mysterious Australia Newsletter April, 2012.

One more find awaited me, a 29.5cm tall ironstone slab image o a squatting naked Earth-Mother, her right hand holding her left breast. The figure was 10.5cm wide at the centre and 8cm wide across the head by 7cm deep. While I intend to continue the search hereabouts I am certain that these colonists would have explored upriver into the Nepean River and found the good farmland of the Penrith region down to Mulgoa and beyond. If so then the future discovery of Chimu relics in that area would not surprise me. -0-
