Kyle is making plans for a new newspaper. The actual size of a page in the newspaper is to be 12 inches wide and 24 inches long. Each page is to have 4 columns of equal width. 1. The second page of the newspaper will be 50% articles, 25% photos, and 25% advertisements. Find the area of a page and then the area of each category on the second page.

2. A scale model of a page of Kyles newspaper is shown at the right. The scale is shown in the table below. Find the dimensions of the total area taken up by photos and the dimensions of the total area taken up by advertisements in the scale drawing. Cut out 2 rectangles with these dimensions. 3. Use your rectangles to layout page 2. Cut the rectangles horizontally to make at least two photos and two advertisements. Draw and label the final layout on the scale model. Label the dimensions that each photo or ad should be in the actual newspaper.

Make sure they measure before they cut so they can use the scale table to find the actual dimensions.
