Learning outcomes/ Objectives: By the end of this lesson, pupils should be able to; i. ii. Read aloud the jazz chant clearly. Perform the jazz chant in groups.

Previous knowledge: Pupils could understand simple and compound sentences. Stage/time Stage 1 Set Induction (5 minutes)

Teaching/ learning 1. Teacher discusses what pupils have learnt about the states in Malaysia. 2. Teacher discusses about what people should do to ensure that Malaysians live peacefully together. 3. Teacher explains that they are going to recite a jazz chant for the lesson.

Stage 2 Presentation (15 minutes)

Teaching aid: English Year 4 textbook

1. Teacher asks pupils to open to page 143 of the English Year 4 textbook in which there is a jazz chant. 2. Teacher gets pupils to read the jazz chant silently. 3. Teacher asks if there are any difficult words in the jazz chant. 4. Teacher explains the meanings of the difficult words, if any. 5. Teacher reads the jazz chant and asks pupils to listen carefully to the reading. 1. Teacher asks for volunteers to recite the jazz chant. 2. Teacher divides pupils into two groups. 3. Teacher asks Group 1 to read the first stanza. 4. Teacher asks Group 2 to read the second stanza. 5. Teacher asks both groups to read the third stanza together. 6. Teacher asks pupils whether they like the jazz chant or not. 7. Teacher discusses the jazz chant and stresses on the importance of living in harmony with neighbours despite the differences in languages, customs, beliefs and tradition. 1. Teacher divides pupils into groups of eight. 2. Teacher explains that they are going to have a competition where the groups need to perform the jazz chant creatively. 3.
