25+ St Louis Spikes manager, Jay Davis Killed In Car Crash In Goodyear, Arizona Last Friday morning, 25+ St. Louis Spikes manager Jay Davis was killed in a single car crash on Estrella Parkway in Goodyear, AZ. He was 34 years old. Jay started the Spikes in 2002 and hes been a part of the St Louis MSBL since that time, according to league president, Mike Martin. Jay was a great guy and a terrific father, Mike said. He leaves behind his wife, Jessica and two sons, Benjamin,10 years old and Cooper, 3 years old. (continued on page 3) MSBL / MABL World Series Spotlight On Pat Thompson (60+ St Paul Saints) Pat and Judy Thompson have shared 48 years of marriage. With two grown sons, Scott 46, and Brian 44, they have seen their share of baseball games. In fact, their second date was to a baseball game. Attending the same high school in El Paso, Texas 4 years apart, they didnt know each other until a blind date at a fraternity dance brought them together. They were married the same year. In 27 years of managing baseball, the only thing Judy ever questions are about pitching changes. Pat recalls his worst moment was making a change only to watch his relief guy get bombed. A six year veteran of the World Series, Pat has played in a number of tournaments throughout the country, and his team won the Minnesota Senior Mens Championship in 1987. He has accumulated 335 career victories for his efforts. Pat was honored to play golf with his baseball hero, Harmon Killebrrew during his broadcaster years with the Twins. He enjoys the unpredictable nature of the game, and points out that something unusual, weird, or even stunning seems to happen in every game. He was managing a close game once during a hotly contested league race and looked out to right field and saw there was no one playing the position. Later, when he asked his player where he went, he said I had a date!

Incredibly Close Division Races Increase The Chances Of 3-3 Records

The Runs Allowed Category Will More Than Likely Determine Playoff Teams
By Tom Prendergast

Midway through the final week of the tournament, several teams have 2-1 records. Its very apparent that many divisions are extremely competitive and will more than likely stay that way through Thursday. The end result is this; teams with the same record (4-2) or (3-3) in divisions where all of the teams dont have the opportunity to play every other team will end up using the runs allowed category as the determining factor in final seeding. The managers packet spells out this scenario and is very specific in how the wildcards are determined. If your still unclear about how the playoffs work, please give the WS office a call and get the answers you need ahead of time. MSBL and the Worldwide Child Relief Foundation (WCRF) Hal Young is looking for MSBL players to join his group on a humanitarian trip to Nicaragua that will combine the game of baseball and the opportunity to help the (continued on page 2)

Jay Davis (2/21/1978 - 10/26/2012) Beloved Jay, Because you were taken from us so suddenly, we are all devastated, deeply saddened and hurting tremendously with your passing. You have touched the lives of so many in the St. Louis baseball community. Known simply as, Mr. Baseball to many, you were a great husband, father, manager, player and above all, a friend to all that knew you. We will never forget your passion or compassion for the game you so dearly loved. Our only comfort is knowing you are in a better place, looking down on us. You will forever be in our hearts, thoughts and prayers anytime the game is mentioned or we take the field, rain or shine. Our deepest sympathy and condolences are with your family now and forever.
