On Sunday, the Chicago Daily Herald, the second largest daily newspaper in metropolitan Chicago, endorsed Mitt Romney (http://www.dailyherald.com/article/20121028/discuss /710289939/) for President in 2012. In 2008, the Daily Herald endorsed hometown Senator Barack Obama for President: In endorsing Illinois favorite son in 2008, we declared Obama has a chance to be a great president. We said, He offers a new kind of politics. A politics that breaks down the old partisan walls. A politics that strives to bring people together. A politics of hope.... But four years later, where is the hope? Where is the confident swagger and leadership to uplift the nations mood?... [W]e endorse Romney because he, unlike Obama, understands that jobs are a creation of business, not of government. And that to encourage job growth, we need policies that incent business to grow and provide it with a stable environment for that growth. In the end, we need moderation, not ideology, to facilitate an economic recovery. It is the central issue that affects us all. As the voice of the suburbs, we always have embraced this free enterprise philosophy as a bedrock of our principles. We view ourselves as independent, fiscally conservative, socially progressive, an advocate always for individual liberty. The Mitt Romney who governed Massachusetts governed it for the most part on those core beliefs as well.... Mitt Romney for president. Though Illinois is safely in the Obama camp, the President's margin of victory in 2012 is likely to be significantly less than the 25% he enjoyed in 2008.

A recent Paul Simon Institute/Southern Illinois University polls shows that in the state he once represented in the Senate, President Obama leads Mitt Romney by only 13% (http://paulsimoninstitute.org/images/PDF/fall2012/illinois-obama-leads-romneyquinn-approval.pdf).

Obama and Romney are both running ads here, 1980? Who knows. It is not an ad blitz or anything, but we are being dragged down to last place in most national categories by the democrat party/machine. They are very unpopular here.

"...the Chicago Daily Herald, the second largest daily newspaper in metropolitan Chicago." Flat out lie. Has this idiot never heard of the Tribune or Sun-Times? The Daily Herald is tiny by comparison.

We all know that this will not change the oucome of Illinois but it confirms a trend towards Romney by all those that are not ideologues. In other words independents are moving towards Romney and the polls confirm that. Each and every day brings more god new for Romney. When was the last time Obama had any good news? Get used to say president Romney because we will be saying it for the next eight years. May as well rehearsing president Ryan while we are at it because after the shambles of the last four years it will be a very long time before the American people trust the democratic party again.

Some of these willfully blind media hacks will never desert the ship. They can't help themselves. As it becomes more and more obvious that the entire Obama crew is a bunch of grifters, more of the real truth should come out......hopefully before next Tuesday.

A lot of nasty comments left in the comments section, I'll put good money on them being from Bathhouse Barry's staffers in Chicago. To me these days newspaper endorsements are more than about just endorsing a candidate, but the backlash they are willing to receive from the left and this paper may be the ultimate endorsement. Good on the Chicago Herald for standing up to the left and Democrats for what they believe in.

If enough people pressure Dish Network, Comcast and the like to modify their programming that customers can choose cable news network. msnbc, CNN and the alphabet soup companies will be gone soon after. may be someone has the time and means to organize this on the national level, it would be great.

I often wonder about people in liberal bastions who say they're going to vote for the democrat and then don't. Look at Anthony Weiner's district in NY, where everyone who was interviewed said they'd vote for the democrat and it was widely believed it would go in that direction. Instead, it went Republican for the first time in nearly 100 years!

I believe the Herald's base is predominantly suburban. From the beginning Obama's policies have been anti-suburban. Newspaper endorsements are still important in down the ballot races but generally not in presidential, senatorial or gubernatorial races. For those races most voters see the ads and watch the debates so they are comfortable with their own choice. This year may be an exception. Since 2006 the national media has been hammering home the message those who oppose Obama are racists. Enough people are sensitive to the charge that it does matter in decision making. Having local media say it is OK to vote for Romney neutralizes that message and further underscores how biased the national press corps has become.

SPOT ON! I am sick of being called racist for saying that I dislike something BHO has done. I usually lay out facts and then have to just shake my head when nothing but shouting and foaming ensue. I could give a rat's ass what color somebody is. I DO give a lot of care and thought to what that person says and DOES. And an "Apology Tour" and "For the first time, I'm proud of my country, (Moochie)" DOESN'T get it done.

if nothing else... this is certainly just another indicator that little o's policies are simply wrong... even for the left.... standby - little stefi will soon be whining about this one too...

This is a huge reversal for the Herald. They have been courting the left for the last decade. Typical of print media, they are losing readers and even went to charging for on-line content about a year ago (and effectively shutting down the comment boards). When the Herald has given up on Obama, things are serious.

Ouch - that's gonna leave a mark! As the article says it would be a cold day in hell if Romney were to take IL, but to have one of your hometown/state newspapers endorse your opposition shows just how far and fast Obama has fallen.

I live in the NW burbs and I'm telling everyone to vote for ROmney. A lot of people are voting who havent' in the past because of the taxes going up in Illinos as well as the depressed economy in this state. A lot of their husbands' hours have been cut to part time. Hell, I'm even driving my Filipina ex-MIL who has never voted Republican before--she can't wait to pull the lever for ROmney!

Perhaps. However , I see it more as a realization by those who have an understanding of what makes our country and economy function that we need to clean house in our national government - we need to clean out the ideas of class warfare, gender warfare, wealth redistribution, burdensome regulation, governmental coercion, nationalization of major industries, an incomprehensible tax code consisting of political payoffs, creation of a dependent class, picking of winners and losers (mostly losers!) in the marketplace, crushing national debt for future generations

SICARIUM

I personally don't put much stock in newspaper endorsements or endorsements in general. If you're waiting for someone to tell you who to vote for, you shouldn't be voting in the first place. But it cannot be a good sign that so many newspapers (mostly liberal ones) are abandoning Obama this close to the election.

MEDIA_BLADDERS

Yep, that's the real lesson here: the number of media defections from the Obama camp since 2008. No one, including the MSM, wants to be seen as backing a loser. And I still think it's significant that Cass Sunstein bailed on Obama several months before the election. Made me wonder at the time -- what did he know that we didn't?

He knew he had jacked with enough federal regs that he just....might....be found to have committed treason. There is a reason he went running back to Harvard to wait it out. Once a coward...always a coward. He should give his life to pay for....oh, a couple of Navy SEALS come to mind.

In a related development, people in Hell are ordering their iced-tea, and the prodigiously porculent lady with large breasts is warming up on the Green Room. As the days unfold before the election, expect more of these mass-media defections from the Obama camp, as the proverbial "handwriting on the wall" becomes clearer and clearer for the Amerian voters. With future subscriptions and readership on the line, one by one, the sycophant, slobbering media will try to distance themselves incrementally from the Obama campaign in order to maintain some level of credibility among their future potential readership. It reminds me of the documentary films I've watched over the years showing German civilians at the waning days of WWII foreswearing any knowledge or allegiance to the NAZI party of Hitler's Germany. It's as if they had been potted plants in the past decade or so, having no knowledge or participation in the process that led up to the Second World War. Yet today's technology gives citizens the means to deflate and defuse the efforts on the part of the government to rewrite history in ways that weren't possible during WWII. Still, I'd be more than totally taken aback of Obama were to lose his home state. As a native-born citizen of "Crook County, Illinois," I'm both baffled by how much the Chicago thug politicos have gotten away with in DC and frustrated at how obvious it has become to America at large - to no apparent consequence. I pray that come November 6th, we'll be done with this trash currently occupying 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. What remaining havoc he might wreak between November 7th, 2012 and January 20th, 2013 remains to be seen

and as the HMS OBAMA sinks slowly on the dark horizon the moon-lit silhouettes of frantic jumping rats shimmers across the waters surface with the sound of disingenuous voices crying out in vain..... "FORWARD"....only to be silenced by the thunderous sounds of stampeding elephants on the opposite shore.
