Your strategy for taking practice tests should be to experiment initially and co me up with a firm strategy towards the end. More than taking the tests, it is of utmost significance to analyze them and work on the feedback. Work on your weak er sections. This you can do by attempting a lot of sectionals. For overall time management, full length tests will help. If you have taken CAT last year, there is no change in the pattern as such. CAT ultimately tests your comprehension, calculation and reasoning ability. Quant an d DI appear together in the first section, which comprises of 30 questions. The best readers are able to read entire senten ces simultaneously and, more importantly, can process the information contained within them. All of these exercises focus on raw speed, but dont forget the all-important compr ehension part of RC. The trick is to read as quickly as you can while still retai ning the information in a passage. 1) The Hand Trick Place your palm flat against the reading surface with the first line of text to be read above the side of your hand. Now move your palm down the page at a regul ar speed and read the text that is exposed while keeping pace with the movement of your palm. 2) The Finger Trick Place your index finger (or mouse pointer) on the first group of words to be rea d. Now move your index finger horizontally in a discontinuous manner, jumping from point to point in a sentence. This forces you to read words in groups instead o f individually. 3) The Card Trick This one works best with a 46 photograph. Place the photograph above the first li ne of text you are about to read. Then, begin moving the photograph down at a st eady rate while attempting to read the text before the photograph descends over it. This forces you to pay attention the first time you read a given passage, si nce you will not have the opportunity to revisit it.
