The Good News of Great Joy

Luke 2:10 "But the angel said to them, "Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people." At Calvary Church we desire to bring the good news of great joy to many people. As we are now down to the final weeks of 2012 the question needs to be asked to all of us: Who have you shared that good news of great joy with? As we slowly roll into Christmas we need to remember that this is one of the most important times of the year where we have an opportunity to share to a lost and confused world that Jesus is their answer to what they are seeking. Very soon we will begin to see the stores turn from a fall focus to Christmas and all of the things that they want to emphasis this time of the year which generally is anything that will empty your wallet. While there is nothing wrong with extra family gatherings and the dinners that go with it and other activities you may do this time of the year, don't allow that to become your focus of the Christmas season. Take some time and reflect on this word of encouragement that the angels gave to the scared shepherds; this was a message of hope and confirmation that God was looking out for humanity and wanted to bring them into right relationship with Him. I see in many ways that the shepherds in this passage are just like people of the world today, they are busy with their jobs and looking at the sky and the world around them and wondering what is going on. As that popular song we hear at Christmas says - "It's the most wonderful time of the year," but it is because of Jesus. Your pastoral team wishes God's riches blessing on you as we finish off 2012 and lets make it our goal to go and share the good news of great joy with all of those that God brings across our path. CALVARY CHURCH ANNUAL CHRISTMAS BANQUET Saturday, December 15th at 5pm. Sign up and prepay until December 2nd with Marge Guderyan or Darlene Martins. The cost for adults is $10 and children under 10 years old are free. Please invite your family and friends to come and celebrate with us the birth of Our Lord Jesus Christ.
While it is always important to move forward in the Lord, it is also good to look back and give God thanks for His goodness. Let us do that now for September and October!
On Sunday September 9, 2012 - we were blessed to have the Teen Challenge group with us, they did a great job reminding us that while the enemy wants to put us into bondage God desires for us to be free. We heard some encouraging stories of deliverance. On Tuesday September 24, Kids Club started again. Thank you to our leaders this year, please pray for them - Carol Young, Joyce Bjorklund, Aaron Shield and Charlotte Morley. Please pray that God continues to draw kids to this vital ministry. On Saturday September 22 we had a Calvary Church leadership team prayer and vision night where we shared a meal and our hearts as to what God was speaking to us about for the upcoming fall. Please pray for the Board of Calvary Church - Roy, John, Dan and Angela and Pastor John that God would give us the wisdom we need to do His will and to give good leadership to our Church. On Saturday September 29 we had a mens BKFST. A good time was had by all who came. It is good when men come together for worship, prayer and fellowship. On Sunday October 14 we were blessed to have Tammy Junghans come and share what God is doing through her ministry at the University of Manitoba. It had been 2 years since we had her visit and we were blessed to hear what God has done and is doing through her. We need to continue to pray and support her. On Sunday October 21 Calvary Church hosted Couples Night Out. This is a ministry that desires to strengthen marriages. We had 30 couples attend and many left saying they felt ministered to. On October 23-24 Pastor John was in Winnipeg for the annual PAOC Manitoba and Northwestern Ontario District Conference. It is encouraging to be with other pastors of like mind. We need to pray for our District Superintendent Jim Poirier.
