Resident volunteers have always managed the Sun City Library. Two years ago the Book Club (BC) took over this responsibility. The goal is to keep it simple. For statistical purposes, books should be signed out on sheets provided in the baskets located in the Lobby and the ASU area. BC members take turns shelving returned books and ensuring that the books are placed in the right order (alphabetic by author in the fiction and alphabetic by title in the non-fiction shelves). It is challenging to deal with new donations given the spatial limitations. No duplicates are kept. Books in poor condition are

recycled. These are the easy choices. It is more difficult when someone drops off a bag full of books. There is simply not enough room to accommodate them. If the new books would add to the collection other books have to go. Books discarded are donated to the Visiting Nurses annual book sale. Please keep in mind these limitations when you leave books at the library. Books that were published in 2000 or earlier will likely be discarded. As much as we appreciate the thought in the donation, there is simply no room. As an alternate the Johnson Library in San Tan is looking for book donations.

Recycling Update
The Town Council has asked the Town staff to negotiate a contract with the low bidder from the private sector to provide trash and recycling curbside collection for all residents in Florence including Anthem. The final decision would be made by Town Council. The private sector bids received had monthly cost to the residents of $13.50-$17.94 including all taxes. This service would include one trash and one recycling pickup each week. For the Town to provide a similar service to include trash and recycling curbside the cost would continue to be the $28 that is currently paid each month. There was a discussion with Town Council regarding bulk waste pickup. This is currently a monthly service provided to Florence residents excluding Anthem. The Public Works Director did indicate that should someone living at Anthem have a large item to dispose of, if called; the Town would pick it up.

Helping at Thanksgiving
Project Bridge is one of Sun Citys favorite worthy causes. Several times a year we hold some kind of fundraiser to help families who live in the Florence Unified School District. During October and November our focus turns to Thanksgiving and donating household cleaning and hygiene items as well as grocery store gift cards for each family. This year, with your help, Project Bridge will deliver Thanksgiving boxes to 100 families who are struggling to make ends meet and simply put food on the table. Last year there were 21 families. Clearly, the need in this part of Pinal County continues to grow. When completed, each box will contain a grocery store gift card so they can shop for Thanksgiving dinner, as well as hygiene products, cleaning & laundry supplies, saran wrap, aluminum foil, toilet paper, paper towels, sandwich baggies, trash bags and kitchen sponges. YOU can help! Please stop in the Union Center to pluck a feather from our proud Thanksgiving turkey. Then, purchase the items listed on the feather and return them to the front desk by Thursday, November 8. Thanksgiving boxes will be delivered to each family on November 16. If you would like to do more than the feather suggests, additional contributions are always needed and very welcome. Gift cards from Safeway, Target, Wal-Mart and Frys are very helpful because they can be used to purchase items not received in donations or given to a family for grocery shopping.

Del Webb Goes Pink Thanks YOU!

Residents of Anthem at Merrill Ranch once again reached into their hearts and generously supported our Annual Del Webb Goes Pink Walk on October 13. This year we had 196 walkers/runners and a record number of 20 Breast Cancer Survivors! Our 50/50 Raffle collected $1,105. The winner took home $552.50 and Susan G. Komen is the beneficiary of the other half. There were over 500 Ducks purchased and entered in the now famous Pink Duck Race. The Lucky Duck winner took home a 32 HD flat screen TV. Other Ducks were pulled from the water to determine winners of a variety of raffle prizes donated by our chartered clubs, crafts and generous local businesses. Every year our donations amount exceeds the previous year. This year, Anthem at Merrill Ranch will donate $5,903.33 to Susan G. Komens fight for the cure! Congratulations and thank you to everyone who participated in and donated to this very worthy cause! Check out all the event photos on www.oursuncityamr.net!

New Invisible Hearing Device Stands Up to the Demands of an Active Lifestyle With the Ultimate in Discretion!
Not surprisingly, most people seeking hearing solutions from Terri Ellert of The Hearing Center in Florence, AZ want a discreet hearing device that people wont notice. Nearly half of them take that request a bit further they want an invisible one. With the incredible advances in technology and design, patients can now have the discreet look they want and better hearing they need to meet the everyday demands of their active lifestyles, says Terri Ellert. Terri Ellert, is one of the first hearing care professionals in the US to offer the new invisible Oticon Intiga , a super tiny, ultra sleek hearing solution that sits inside the ear canal. The fully automatic hearing solution is designed to improve first-time users ability to hear and understand conversation and other everyday sounds with less listening effort, even in difficult listening situations such as restaurants, conference rooms or sporting events. Terri customizes Intiga to fit the unique shape of each patients ear to ensure a secure, comfortable fit. This means that Intiga stays put and invisible no matter how active the patients lifestyle. Terri Ellert reports that her patients also appreciate that because Intiga is worn inside the ear, they can easily use the telephone or wear headphones without discomfort. For patients who may not be candidates for the custom-made Intiga, The Hearing Center offers the tiny Intiga, a high performance hearing instrument that fits almost invisibly behind the ear. Intiga is the worlds smallest fully wireless hearing solution, enabling the device to act as a wireless, hands-free headset for cell phones and other entertainment devices. For more information on invisible Intiga or behind-the-ear Intiga, contact Terri Ellert at 520868-8111 .
