I . Characters and their Role

Beth Emhoff (Gwyneth Paltrow) - a businesswoman who returns home to Midwest America and spreads the deadly disease to the local population. - Wife of Mitch Emhoff America. Dr. Ellis Cheever - WHO doctor who is also working for the vaccine. -sent Dr. Erin Mears to Minnesota to investigate the case Alan Krumwiede(Jude Law) - is a journalist in San Francisco as a controversial Internet blogger. Dr. Erin Mears- a good physician who travelled to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta, Georgia, where she consulted with current and former officers of the Epidemic Intelligence Service

II. Summary
The story started with a girl, Beth Emhoff who had returned from business trip to Hong Kong and had a stop over at Chicago where she met

her former lover. Beth feels ill but she believes that the problem is jet lag. She travels back home to Minneapolis and spreads the virus to her son Clark and her husband Mitch.When Beth and Clark die, Mitch goes in quarantine where the doctors realize that he is immune to the mysterious virus. Meanwhile in Hong Kong, London and in a small province, people have the same disease.Thus begins the spread of a deadly infection. At first, doctors and administrators at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control ignored it and several days pass before anyone realizes the extent or gravity of this new infection. The WHO sent a epidemiologist to identify the type of virus in question and then find a means of combating it. The outbreak is threatening the worldwide population of annihilation, unless a vaccine is wellsucceeded.The people got panic with regards to this break down and also a process that will likely take several months. As the contagion spreads to millions of people worldwide, societal order begins to break down as people panic.They did race for foods and medicine. And then finally had developed the vaccine for the that virus. In the end of the film they showed how Beth acquired the disease.

III. Role of Technology In the Film

They uses technology in formulating the vaccines. They uses high-tech equipment in viewing the action of virus and how it damage the cells The use of CCTV camera was shown also in the film which help them to detect where the virus came from. Telephone was used as the mean for communication between the daughter and his father who is in quarantine. In the film, I also saw that the doctor that was affected by the virus has a pulse oximeter to onitor her oxygen saturation. The use of TV and Radio in delivering information about the disease

IV. Is these technology helps in the situation?

Yes, because imagine if they dont have those high-tech equipment then they will not able to know, view and identify the cause of some particular disease. And if they didnt know the etiology of that disease,they will not also be able to develop a vaccine.

V. How can you help during that time as a nurse? How are you going to use the technology that we have today?

If I am to be a nurse by that time, then I will collaborate with the medical team by conducting research on how the virus was acquired. I will also try to assist the epidemiologist if they needed help for something. As a nurse i will make sure to adhere to the policies of infection control and will assure to protect myself not to acquire that virus wherein i can infect other people if I, myself is infected. I will also volunteer to deliver vaccines to those places that were infected by the virus and I will administer it accordingly. In using the technology of today, the first thing that I should know is the function of such technolgy so that I could use it properly . I will use all of it with proper precaution or considering all the consequences if I use it in a wrong way. And if I am not sure on how to use it then I will not pursue instead I will ask someone who knows.
