NAME: FARAH LIYANA BINTI SAIFUL AZHAR MATRIC NUMBER: 1120515 GROUP: GROUP C BATCH: MEDIC 2012/2013

DEFINITION
There are many definitions to that of what we considered as people. According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, people are defined as human beings making up a group or assembly linked by a common interest. They make up 7.049 billion or more precisely

7,049,378,233 of the world population today. Until this day people still ask the same question: How, when and why do we exist?

History
How and when human exists is still a debatable question as scholars believe it to be that the human beings are evolutions of the early primates, thus the term Homo sapiens whereby the genus Homo is of the great apes. This theory is proposed by Charles Darwin. In his book, On The Origin Of Species, Charles claimed that all species of life have descended over time from common ancestors and proposed the scientific theory that this branching pattern of evolution resulted from a process called natural selection in which the struggle for existence has a similar effect to the artificial selection involved in selective breeding. Much to the debatable concept of the evolution theory, some may even question whether or not god exists? This has caused a stir among religious scholars, especially those of Abrahamic religions namely Muslims, Christians and Jews, who insisted upon the banning of the theory altogether. As stated in the Holy Quran as well as the early scriptures of Torah and Bible, mankind are descendants of Adam and Eve who have been thrown from Heaven, condemned to spend their lives on Earth, thus making them the early residents of the Earth. And We said: O Adam! Dwell you and your wife in the garden and eat from it a plenteous (food) wherever you wish and do not approach this tree, for then you will be of the unjust. But the Satan made them both fall from it, and caused them to depart from that (state) in which they were; and We said: Get forth, some of you being the enemies of others, and there is for you in the earth an abode and a provision for a time Chapter 2 [Al-Baqarah]: Verse 35-36 And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul. Genesis 2: Verse 7

In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return. And Adam called his wife's name Eve; because she was the mother of all living. Unto Adam also and to his wife did the Lord God make coats of skins, and clothed them. And the Lord God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live forever: Therefore the Lord God sent him forth from the Garden of Eden, to till the ground from whence he was

taken. So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubim, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life. Genesis 3: Verse 19-24 However, it is a widely known fact that humans and apes differ a great deal, to the extent of which the evolution theory can be renounced for the following reasons: 1. The level of intelligence of a man greatly differs to that of an ape. If humans are really an evolution of the great apes, the question remains whether the human mental faculties could have possibly been evolved as well? The gap between humans and even the smartest ape seems too large to the degree of which it deemed impossible. If it did occur, the degree of the change of the human mind would have been very minimal but so far, it seems that the human mind is too complex to have undergone gradual changes. 2. Scientific proofs on the evolvement of mankind from the apes are still vague On a certain level, it is true that Darwins theory have a fundamental contribution to modern day science especially in the field of biology, such as his theory on natural selection and selective breeding. However, to date, there is no actual proof that can support the theory that an ape evolve to become a man. In fact, Richard Owen, a biologist and a paleontologist of the 19th century argued that no transitional form have been found to fully support the idea brought by Darwin. The scientific consensus, supported by a 2006 statement by 68 national and international science academies, is that it is evidence-based fact derived from observations and experiments in multiple scientific disciplines that the universe has existed for around 13 billion years and that the Earth was formed about 4.5 billion years ago with the first life form appearing at least 2.5 billion years ago. In a recent development of biological sciences, Spencer Wells, a geneticist and an anthropologist has concluded that all humans alive today are descended from a single man who lived in Africa around 60,000 - 90,000 years ago, a man also known as Y-chromosomal Adam.

conclusion
To this very day, people still argued about the evolutionary facts that occur from time to time while some even insisted that this theory is logical enough that it is considered as an upholding of a modern day atheist even though it is a well-known fact that human DNA comprises of 23 pairs of chromosomes whereas the apes have 24 pairs altogether.

As to the question of why we are here on Earth is more likely that it is to serve a purpose of creating a balance in this world. We are one and the same in terms of our purpose on Earth that is to the khalifah on this planet, creating peace in this little sanctuary we called home. As mentioned in the al-Quran, humans, men and women alike are to be asked on the Day of Judgment regarding our deeds on Earth. Who are we to question the word of the Higher Being?
