Show the pictures ugly and umbrella and say the word clearly & slowly. Can u tell me the first sound? Tell the class the first sound if they cant answer & show the letter u Say the sound ah while showing the letter u several times.
Write the letter u on the board as big as u can using slow & deliberate stroke while saying the sound ah. Write the letter u again in the air while facing the children (mirror image) while saying the sound ah. Ask the children to write the letter u in the air while looking at your hand & saying the sound ah.
Note : Only the teacher writes in mirror image so that the class will see the proper way of writing. 2.2. Introduce the keywords bus, mum, gus. I am going to show you some pictures that have the sound ah Show the class the picture bus & say slowly bus. Ask the children to repeat. Ask the whole class or several children to name the picture in your hand.
Put the picture on the sticky board. Next show the word b-u-s and say bus. Ask the children to repeat. Ask the whole class or several children to read the card in your hand. Place the word b-u-s next to the picture. Repeat with the keywords mum & gus. 3. GROUP ACTIVITY (PEER & PAIR REVIEWING) Have the children sit face to face in pairs. While they arrange themselves, distribute pictures & words of the keywords to each pair. Ask them to take turns pretending to be teachers & pupils. Teach as you did previously starting with the letter u & the keywords.
4. REVIEW & LESSON (2) 4.1. Introduce the consonant b Show the picture bus again & say bus. Out it on the sticky board. Put the letters b-u-s beside the picture & say bus very slowly. Take out the letter b and say the sound b. Ask the children to repeat the sound. Write the letter b on the board as big as u can using slow & deliberate stroke while saying the sound beh. Write the letter b again in the air while facing the children (mirror image) while saying the sound beh.
Ask the children to write the letter b in the air while looking at your hand & saying the sound beh. Replace the letter b to the word b-u-s. 4.2. Introduce the consonant s Point to the letter u in the word b-u-s & ask for the sound. Praise the children if they can say the sound.
Next, take out the letter s and say the sound ss. Ask the children to repeat the sound. Write the letter s on the board as big as u can using slow & deliberate stroke while saying the sound ss. Write the letter s again in the air while facing the children (mirror image) while saying the sound ss. Ask the children to write the letter s in the air while looking at your hand & saying the sound ss.
4.3. Introduce the consonant m Remove the word b-u-s the replace with the word m-u-m. Say the word mum clearly & slowly.
4.4. Introduce the consonant g Remove the word m-u-m the replace with the word g-u-s.
Introduce the sound geh following the usual steps. Ask the class for the rest of the letter in the word g-u-s. (u & s). 5. MULTISENSORY ACTIVITY 5.1. Objective
Enforce earlier learning experience through fun & multisensory experience. Practice controlled behaviour by painting inside the boundaries of the letters. Introduction to colours.

Steps Cover the workspace with old newspaper. Arrange children within 2 or 3 groups in a circle.
Place a dish with some paint in the middle of the groups. Add some sand or ground spice for texture/smell. Give each child a worksheet (Figure 1). Show how to use one finger to write the letters with paint. Make sure demonstrate the correct way of writing. Say the sound of the letters Figure 1 they paint. Use the opportunity to introduce colours. Hang their worksheet as they are done. If time permits, let the children do some finger painting on another sheet of paper. 6. BREAK (BOOKS. SONGS. REFRESHMENTS)

Put the song bus mum gus on the CD player. Provide refreshments (sunquick+cream cracker) on a table. Announce that it is time for break. Remind the children to wash their hands, drink courteously & instruct them to wash their tumblers after drinking. Recite dua before eating with the children.
Provide some books away from the refreshment table. The children can read after they had their drinks. Do not ask children about previous lesson during break time.
7. BRAIN GYM
Invite the children to sit on the floor Sit on a slighty higher level with the big book on your lap or on an easel. Warm up by asking the class what are the picture on the front of the book. Turn the book behind to see the back. Read the authors name & the publisher. Flip through the pages quickly to give the children an overall view of the story. Things that are learned as a whole before in parts tend to be retained longer in the brain. Read while pointing at the words. After the story, ask the children : o What the story is about? o What did the bear see? What colour is the bird? o What did the bird see? What colour is the duck? Etc
All children in a standing position & in a comfortable distance from each other. Refresh the children on the sounds learnt today by showing each letter & putting it on the sticky board : u, b, s, m & g. Make sure every child say the sounds correctly. Count the letters together & take that amount of steps behind. (5 letters take 5 steps behind). Recall the first sound ah. Point to the letter u on the sticky board. Ask the children to follow your hand as you write the letter u (mirror image) in the air. Take a step forward when done. Repeat with b, s,m & g. When done do the closing Brain Gym step with a loud I Can Read!.
