Back to School
Tuesday, August 31, was our first day of classes. We currently have 18 students enrolled in our school ranging from ages 5 to 16. Most if not all of these boys are shoe shiners. The first day of classes went really smoothly and many of the boys came excited and ready to learn. A few of these boys have had difficult journeys in even just getting enrolled in the program

because some parents dont see the value of an education. Some would rather their child work. This issue has been addressed by our director and pastor, and thanks to God touching the parents hearts, no legal actions needed to be made. Im excited to see how God moves in this school year. Thank you for your prayers.

YANKAURY ABREU

My second day in this country, I met a boy that will actually be studying in the school that I am teaching at; Colegio Timoteo. His name is Yankaury Abreu and he is sixteen years old. He currently lives at the church. My time with him has been a huge blessing. When we first met, we went to the park and spent some time getting to know each other. God definitely began working in this relationship at this time and it was amazing how he created an open and confiding relationship. Since that time, just about every day he comes over to my house and we have lunch together. This has become a time where we are able to pray together, read the Bible together, and even just talk about life. I have been blessed by how much confidence and how God has been using this relationship. Yankaury just became a Christian about 5 months ago, and it has been a huge blessing to be able to encourage him and challenge him in his faith. It has been very encouraging to watch him grow and want to go deeper in his faith. We actually both entered the Discipleship class at the church. Basically this is an 8 month program of intense teaching and reading. We are required to read the Bible as a whole and 15 other books within this 8-month time frame (most if not all of this material is in Spanish might I add). I am excited to see how God continues to use this relationship and I am especially excited to be a part of Yankaurys life as he grows closer and deeper in his relationship with God.

Training with ACE

Hey Everyone so I have been in Jarabacoa, Dominican Republic for a little over a month now, and it has been amazing to see God working and how quickly I have been able to get integrated into the culture and church here. A lot of trust is being formed in a very short time. The first week of August, I participated in a Training course for the curriculum that I will be using to teach English in the school that I will be teaching at; Colegio Timoteo. The curriculum is called ACE, which stands for Accelerated Christian Education. Our training was set up exactly how things would be run in the classroom and the people being trained became the students for the week. This provided the future professors with an idea of how the students would feel during a typical school week. Wow!! Let me tell you, it is INTENSE!!!! This program is very well organized and incorporates character development and discipline with a Christian education. The three of us from the United program is designed for the States.
