2D Electrical Power
The purpose of this assignment is to: Enable you to demonstrate your understanding of electricity, how to measure it safely and how to build simple circuits.
Scenario: You are a trainee scientist working for the National Grid Company. You are exploring ways of producing electricity and how electricity is transferred to our homes. You will need to produce a detailed and easy to read company leaflet for distribution to the local public Task 1 You need to produce a leaflet on how a battery (DC) produces electricity, include positive and negative points of the battery. Add a section on generators (AC) and how they produce electricity include positive and negative points. Carry out investigations into how electricity is produced from a generator and produce a battery include: 1. Aim, introduction and method 2. Diagram and results 3. Conclusion and evaluation (relate to how energy is produced by each) This provides evidence for P6

Welling School Science Dept L2 BTEC Applied Science Task 2 You need to describe the national grid, what it is and how electrical energy is transferred to our home or workplace for use in electrical circuits. Include diagrams of the national grid (including step up and step down transformers) labeled with details of how the electrical energy is transferred, you could include a flow diagram You need to assess methods of minimizing energy loss when transmitting electricity across the grid; you need to explain how they work and the difference each makes, with diagrams if possible. You need to asses methods of minimizing energy loss when converting electricity to other forms for use in the home and at work. Explain each process and how it works make sure that you reference all sources used
This provides evidence for P7 & D4 Task 3 You need to produce a factsheet on Ohm,s law stating what it is and how you connect an ammeter and a voltmeter. You need to test a series circuit, draw it and use your results to describe Ohms law. This provides evidence for P8 Task 4 You need to investigate and write a report comparing renewable and non renewable energy sources, you need to explain how they work, label a diagram and explain how efficient they are at generating electricity. You must have at least 3 examples of each source. This provides evidence for M4
