Web Quest Victorian Period: 1837- 1901. Era of Queen Victorias reign. It was a long period of peace, prosperity, refined sensibilities and national self-confidence for Britain. Great deal of change took place during this period because of the Industrial Revolution. Against the backdrop of technological, political, and socioeconomic change, the Victorian Period was bound to be a volatile time, even without the added complications of the religious and institutional challenges brought by Charles Darwin and other thinkers, writers, and doers. Yorkshire Moors: Largest expanses of heather moorland in the United Kingdom. Has dramatic sea cliffs, hidden valleys. Yorkshire Accent: The Yorkshire dialect refers to the varieties of English used in the Northern England historic county of Yorkshire. The dialect has roots in older languages such as Old English and Old Norse; it should not be confused with modern slang. Yorkshire is generally not as stigmatised as other dialects, and has been used in classic works of literature such as Wuthering Heights. Haworth Parsonage: Jane Eyre: Written by Charlotte Bronte. It was published on 16 October 1847 by Smith, Elder & Co. of London, England, under the pen name Currer Bell. Primarily of the bildungsroman genre, Jane Eyre follows the emotions and experiences of its eponymous character, including her growth to adulthood, and her love for Mr. Rochester, the byronic master of fictitious Thornfield Hall. The novel contains elements of social criticism, with a strong sense of morality at its core, but is nonetheless a novel many consider ahead of its time given the individualistic character of Jane and the novel's exploration of classism, sexuality, religion, and proto-feminism. Ellis Bell: Emily Brontes pen name. Published Wuthering Heights under this name. Gothic Novel: power point Emily Bronte: power point
