Catalogue g
Printing of the FOOTPRINTS catalogue is climate-neutral, i.e. CO2-emissions that occur during production of the catalogue are calculated and then compensated by investments in recognised climate protection projects. The paper for our catalogue comes exclusively from sustainable certified forestry.

Footbed
The FOOTPRINTS footbed has been perfectly adapted to the human anatomy and gently transfers your body weight from the centre to the front of your foot in order to evenly distribute it across the entire foot when walking, standing or running. Even your toes are free to move naturally (for example, spreading out when rolling your foot from heel to toe). We only use natural materials to make the footbeds such as jute, latex and cork. This ensures the best possible transport of moisture and a healthy foot environment. All FOOTPRINTS footbeds can be removed for airing or washing (at 30C) and replacements can of course be ordered for all models (also see page 07/66).

Cork
The extraordinary properties of natural cork were wellknown to the ancients and even then it was used for manufacturing the soles of shoes. With good reason: cork combines the highest requirements for elasticity, cushioning and insulation in a natural raw material. This makes it the perfect material for our FOOTPRINTS footbeds (also see page 07/66).

Hang-Tag g g
For instantly recognisable quality, we label every pair of FOOTPRINTS with a hang tag. It represents the most important features of our shoes: the replaceable footbed, the natural materials and all the knowledge and experience from 200 years of Birkenstock.

Customer Service
FOOTPRINTS shoes are not disposable products. All our shoes are processed and manufactured to be long-lasting, repairable and provide customer satisfaction over many years. For this reason, our customer service is available for you during the entire lifetime of your shoe and beyond. This starts with our delivery service and includes replacement of footbeds and professional repairs.

Hand-sewn
Our FOOTPRINTS Originals are hand-sewn and manufactured in the best shoemaker tradition. This means the upper and sole are sewn together by hand in a precise and intricate process. This is workmanship that requires particular dexterity and an experienced eye. Unlike machine-sewn shoes, every FOOTPRINTS Original is a genuinely unique item characterised by outstanding durability, a perfect fit and maximum wearing comfort (also see page 35).

FOOTPRINTS are shoes as we would choose to wear them: comfortable, long-lasting companions for business and leisure. With the knowledge and experience that comes from more than 200 years of Birkenstock history and according to state-of-the-art expertise. For this, we only use carefully sourced raw materials and premium materials that we process with traditional shoemaking craftsmanship. With our partner companies in Bad Lobenstein (Thuringia), Steinau (Hesse), Grlitz (Saxony) and Caldas de Vizela (Portugal), we combine many years of close cooperation and a common understanding of craftsmanship and quality. Numerous employees working in these companies have been practising their trade for more than four decades with all the passion and dedication that makes a good shoe a much-loved companion: then as now, today and in the future.

Entirely natural

N AT U R A L C O R K
_For a healthy foot environment and outstanding wear comfort, we only use natural materials such as jute, latex and pure natural cork. Cork is a sustainable raw material with extraordinary features: it is light and elastic whilst being shock-absorbing and also protects from the cold, heat and damp. _The cork for our footbeds comes directly from sustainably managed Portuguese cork forests unique ecosystems which can only be preserved today thanks to their economic usage.

THE FOOTPRINTS FOOTBED

_The footbed is the heart of our shoes. We have perfectly customised it to the anatomy of the human foot so that natural movements can take place unimpeded almost as if you are walking barefoot. _In addition, your body weight is gently distributed across the entire foot area: this supports and relieves pressure and ensures constantly relaxed feet even after a long period of walking or standing. _Our footbeds can be washed at 30C, replaced or be adapted by orthopaedic shoemakers. They have always been manufactured in Germany. _You can find an overview of our footbeds on page 66.

LIGHTSHOES
Light & exible
The usual perfect fit at a significantly reduced weight: our new lightweight line, for comfort with ease. So you can go about your day with ease no matter how long it lasts.

WEIGHT

_City trips or trade fairs, business or everyday, walking or standing we demand a lot of our feet. Our new lightweight models make it easier for you and at least 100 grammes lighter per shoe compared to conventional models. The secret is the exceptionally light sole made from hard-wearing polyurethane which, with millions of ultra-fine air bubbles, gently cushions your steps and protects your joints.

_Supple natural leather perfectly adapts to every movement. _The anatomically shaped footbed made from natural materials such as cork and jute provides optimal support, ensures a dry foot climate and can be replaced for a new one if required. _Lightweight models for ladies can be found from page 20, and for men from page 54.

The correct fit

Always pay attention to the right length when choosing your FOOTPRINTS. Ideally there should be between 10 and 12 millimetres space in the toe area while your heel must sit securely in the footbed. Check your measurements directly with your specialist retailer: take the footbed out of the shoe and stand on it. Does everything look as it does on the picture? Then you have found the correct length. For a most comfortable fit, the correct width is also important. You can therefore choose between two widths in many models: perfect for normal feet ideal for narrow feet

_TR soles are light, flexible, anti-slip and wear-resistant. They consist of two layers: a midsole made from expanded TR, which is very soft and cushions every step, and a tread area made from compact TR which optimally grips the ground and protects against wear. _They are partly manufactured from

TPU-soles
_TPU soles are shock-absorbing, hard-wearing and very long-lasting. They are also particularly environmentally friendly in terms of manufacturing: any remains can be melted down again and fully used up. Once processed, the soles are extremely wear-resistant and act to support every step. _Manufactured from thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) and naturally CFC-free. _The soles of the mens model Hamburg dark red and Leverkusen have a deeper tread for an even more secure footing.

PU-soles
_PU soles are exceptionally light, hold their shape and are hard-wearing. When manufacturing them, two liquid components are mixed and foamed. Shoes make people

And people make shoes especially at FOOTPRINTS. Our Originals, for example, are entirely manufactured with intricate hand seams completely typical and according to old shoemaker tradition with a great deal of skill, a practised eye and special workmanship.

About 50 working steps are needed to make the individual materials into a complete shoe: leather is punched, shoe uppers are sewn together, padded in the right places and strengthened with interlining. The hand-sewn binding is a special feature of our Originals models: our shoemakers hand-sew the upper to the sole several times using a tearresistant nylon thread. This is how they create long-lasting unique items with an extremely precise fit that retains its perfect shape even after many years of wear. The soles can be renewed by specialist shoemakers or our customer service in an ecoand resource-friendly way. This makes our Originals into long-lasting, sustainable and comfortable shoes for men and ladies made in Germany.

Glossary

Natural Leather
We select only the finest and best natural leather for FOOTPRINTS. A changing grain pattern and minor irregularities in the surface serve to emphasise its naturalness. For cleaning our natural leather shoes, we recommend a soft brush and household cloth that is slightly moistened with warm water. Classic hard wax polish should then be applied to the shoes using a lint-free cotton cloth. After drying, buff the wax polish until your FOOTPRINTS regain their shine.

Suede Leather
Suede is premium-quality leather with a pleasantly soft surface with extra wide pores. Suede shoes should be impregnated using a suitable spray on a regular basis. Surface dirt can be removed by brushing, while a pumice stone or raw leather rubber will help to remove any marks or spots. Heavier soiling can be washed off carefully using soap and water. Always allow suede shoes to dry slowly and then roughen the leather gently using a fine wire or rubber brush before impregnating them again.

Nubuck Leather
Nubuck is one of the most luxurious types of leather. It has a highly-refined structure and a characteristically soft, velvety surface. Its extra wide pores ensure outstanding transfer of moisture and a pleasant foot climate. Care for your FOOTPRINTS nubuck leather shoes using only a nubuck brush and nubuck spray. In case of damp, always let the leather dry slowly so that it does not become too hard before brushing it. Through this, the nubuck leather will retain its soft, velvety and glossy look for a long time.

Soles
Regardless of what material was used, all our soles are extremely shape-retaining and sturdy yet at the same time flexible and pleasantly cushioning on impact. With our PU and TPU soles for example, a core of CFC-free foamed polyurethane ensures comfortable walking and standing due to millions of tiny air bubbles. This protects the joints and supports natural movement. Our rubber and TR soles in turn have a particularly good grip and are anti-slip. The choice of sole material is always coordinated perfectly to the relevant shoe model (also see page 28).

Waxy Leather
The waxy leather used for FOOTPRINTS is highly robust and resistant. A protective layer of dyed wax ensures a matt lustre and a water-repellent surface. Waxy leather shoes should be cleaned with a dry brush or using a damp cloth. For care, we recommend a combination of coloured wax to cover up any scuffing and refresh the colour and finishing with a thin layer of waxy leather polish.
