Nowadays, we face to the most problems like as settlement for geotechnical structures (such as foundations and retaining walls), soil subsidence and etc, that precede the lack of sufficient strength. Although these problems solved by materials in small sizes in the past, nanotechnology getting to work as a system to control of matter to solve this subject on the nanometer length scale now. Due to their tiny size, the most of scientists have attracted using nanoparticles to indicate this solvent specification of nanoparticles. In this article, we evaluate carbon nanotube (CNT) unique effects on mechanical properties of clayey sand soils including shear strength and compressive strength. The results indicate that carbon nanotubes have different effects on each of them. Carbon Nanotubes decrease the friction angle whiles cause to increase the cohesion, on the other hand raise the compressive strength in very slight quantities. Calcium hydroxide cement as a direct pulp-cap material has been used for several decades. In spite of well-known advantages of calcium hydroxide such as excellent antibacterial properties. Calcium hydroxide has some disadvantages as well. For instance, high solubility, no inherent adhesive qualities and low mechanical strength which might be improved by some changes in conventional calcium hydroxide cement. The aim of this study was to improve the commercial calcium hydroxide cement properties by adding nanohydroxyapatite (nHA) besides keeping desirable properties. Synthesized nanohydroxyapatite was added to the commercial calcium hydroxide cement in two proportions (5 and 10%). The new calcium hydroxide composite cement was analyzed under the scanning electron microscope (SEM) to observing microstructure. X-ray energy dispersive analysis (EDX) was used to analyze the elemental composition of the new nanocomposite cements. In addition, setting time, mechanical strength, pH, Ca release and antibacterial test was measured to clear how nanohydroxyapatite influences on commercial calcium hydroxide cement properties. Analysis of the specimens showed that adding 5% nanohydroxyapatite besides keeping antibacterial properties in the desirable limit, can improve mechanical strength of the cement by act as a filler phase. Furthermore, increasing Ca2+ release might improve adhesive qualities and provide a better seal. Laboratory Study on the Effect of Nano-SiO2 on Improvement Fatigue Performance of Aged Asphalt Pavement
M. Arabani*, A. K. Haghi, R. Tanzadeh Faculty of Engineering, University of Gilan, Rasht, 3756, Iran *m_arbani@yahoo.com

Every year, there is a demand of more than 110 million metric tons of asphalt all around the world. This represents a huge amount of money and energy, from which a good part is for the preservation and renovation of the existing pavements. Fatigue is one of the most important factors that could reduce the life of asphalt pavements. Over several years, due to the oxidation of bitumen hydrocarbons, the stiffness and flexible property of asphalt pavement is reduced and lead to the micro cracks in asphalt pavement. Nowadays, the application of nanotechnology for more resistant asphalt is expanding in asphalt pavement that nano-SiO2 is among the most exciting and promising classes of materials discovered recently. The purpose of this study is laboratory research on the effect of nano-SiO2 in restoring the original properties of aged asphalt pavement specifically, bitumen adhesion under dynamic loading. For this purpose, the indirect tensile fatigue test is carried out on initial asphalt samples and aged asphalt samples that modified with nano-SiO2. The result illustrate that the using of nanoSiO2 in aged asphalt samples cause to significantly improvement in fatigue life in comparison with initial asphalt samples. Aluminum matrix nanocomposites are one of the advanced engineering materials that have been developed for weight reduction for critical applications in the aerospace, and more recently in the automotive industries due to their excellent combination of high specific strength and good wear resistance. There are different parameters that have important effects on the physical and mechanical behaviour of composites like type, size and distribution of reinforcement. In this study, the nanocomposites of Al/(SiCp-Al2O3p) were synthesised by two different methods, high energy ball milling and polymer impregnation. Different weight fractions of reinforcement in Al/SiC-Al2O3 were prepared and the samples were sintered at 500C. The microstructure and phases of the prepared nanocomposites were investigated by using X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and particle size analyzer. The mechanical properties like strength, hardness and wear resistance were investigated by ring on ring, Vickers microhardness and pin on disk methods respectively. The results showed that nanocomposites improve mechanical properties. It was also found that the polymer impregnation is a novel method for the synthesis of metal matrix nanocomposite with more homogeneous phase assemblage and improved mechanical properties compare to the conventional ball milling methods.
