Individual Current Ethical Issues Paper

Our founder Kathy Kudler established the Kudler Fine Foods Corporation in 1998 after working as a vice president for a defense contractor. She loved gourmet cooking, which she used to relive stress. She soon realized that there was potential for an upscale food place in La Jolla and put together a business plan and six months later the first Kudler Fine Foods opened (Kudler fine foods, 2010). After two years the company opened a second store and a third one three years later. As the company grows and more employees are hired, the need for a new ethics program is required. There have been instance of bad ethics in departments so the only way that the company can get back on track with the great ethical behavior this company was founded on. These issues are if a grievous nature and will be described in the following paragraphs. Please pay close attention to what is being discussed, as any transgressions after this report will be dealt with severely. The major focus is on employee reviews. It has been brought to our attention that after employees are finished writing their reviews, they have not been having their supervisors review and sign the review. This is an unethical violation of company policy. We believe that this destroys the connection between managers and employees. The self-review gives the employee an opportunity to show how they think of themselves and their job performance. Then the manager takes this information and has a better understanding of the employee and how they see themselves at work. If they two coincide then the manager knows that the employee understands their job, works well with others and takes direction. If they two have differing opinions about job performance, then the manager can discuss, critique, criticize and train on how to be a better worker. If the employee falsifies their performance review, not only is it unethical

Individual Current Ethical Issues Paper but also it ruins the trust that has been built in the manager/employee relationship. To

fix this problem we are changing the paperwork process for the review. The employees will still their own review but a manger must sign their own name themselves before turning in a review. Any employee found to be forging their supervisors name, will be terminated and informed to the legal authorities as this is considered a form of identity theft. To ensure management signs the review, during their own reviews they will be questioned about each one of their employees reviews and must answer accordingly and explain their remarks and recommendations. The manager must be able to defend their actions. We want to keep the integrity of the dynamic of a department. The next issue we are going to address is timesheets. It has been brought to Human Resources attention that people have been signing in and out for breaks and comings and goings early and recording their time incorrectly, working unapproved overtime and not signing out for lunch in general. The timesheets are reviewed on a weekly basis by the department head, their direct supervisor and then payroll department. It is important that all time is accounted for correctly. The company budget is depending on the exact hours and approved overtime. If employees take advantage of this then the employee is stealing form the company and in extension stealing from fellow co-workers. Another point for having accurate time is an insurance and health issue. When an employee is on company time, they are the companys responsibility. If an employee does not sign out for lunch and they get hurt while off company premises but still on company time, the liability is high. A employee is part of the company they work for and any and all actions are a reflection of that company regardless off good or bad. If an employee is on company time they are on company property or have a

Individual Current Ethical Issues Paper excuse to be off. We need to be able to account for all employee whereabouts at all time on company time. To elevate there issues, the paper timesheets are now being replaced with an electronic clock in/out machine. The leaders of this company feel that this is the best and most efficient way to track employee time. The management staff must still approve all time for the week as was done before. Thank you all for your time as we try to change and improve this company not only with our customers but also with our selves. Good ethics and good moral are keys to having a successful company. More information will follow about our improving company standards.
