D.El.Ed. Programme WORKSHOP I : Towards Understanding the Self


Schedule of Activities: Classroom instruction required mastery of various methods and modes of communication with the students. This also includes proper planning of instruction, special techniques associated with teaching specific subjects and also general management strategies needed for organizing the teaching in a classroom. The teacher also has a multifaceted role as a manager, adviser, social welfare individual, etc. etc. With a view to prepare the teacher trainees fit in all these roles this course is designed in the format of workshops. To conduct the workshop outsourcing is proposed. For this purpose resource persons may be invited who are reputed teacher educators and also preferably persons involved in the areas of personal development. In order to meet the objectives number of innovative approaches/techniques/strategies in workshop mode need to be used. This includes interactive sessions, discussion of issues in pairs or small groups, presentations, buzz sessions, role plays, case studies Rationale and Aim : The main aim of this course is to facilitate the development of individuals who can take responsibility for their own learning and give a conscious direction to their lives. Students are encouraged to explore and develop through self-reflection a greater insight into their aims of life, strengths and weaknesses and dynamics of formation of identity and a true individuality. Students also develop a capacity for social-relational sensitivity, effective communication skills and ways to create harmony within ones own self and society. The workshops are also aimed at equipping the students with positive attitudes, attributes and skills that help in facilitating the personal growth of their own students while teaching. Specific Objectives : To help student teachers discover and develop open-mindeness, the attitude of a self motivated learner, having self knowledge and self-restraint. To help student teachers develop the capacity for sensitivity, sound communication skills and ways to establish peace and harmony. To develop the capacity to facilitate personal growth and social skills in their own students.

Proposed Activities during Workshop - I


Day Session-I 1 Welcome Address and discussion on the D.El.Ed. programme (aims, objectives, necessity, etc.) Session-II A detailed idea on the purpose of the Workshop, expected learning outcomes of the trainees and distribution of the workshop schedules. Activity: As a teacher, what is your contribution towards the society? Discuss. Session-III Exploring the Aim of life Session-IV Activity: Sharing of viewpoints of all the trainees

Relevance of Value Education in todays world

Understanding the Child (growth, development, personality, intelligence, etc.)

Activity: Discussion on importance of cocurricular activities for growth and development of the students

Introduction to the Teaching Skills

Demonstration of the important teaching skills through the method of microteaching Classroom communication and management

Activity: Discussion and presentation on how values can be inculcated in the young students through different subjects you teach. Understanding Activity: From your individual experience as a teacher, differences in write down how you children in terms of can create suitable social, economic and environment in your cultural background classroom to meet these differences. Activity: Planning and presentation of teaching skills through micro -lessons by the teacher trainees followed by comments and discussion.
