Adobe Pixel Bender Utility ReadMe


Overview
The Pixel Bender utility command-line tool, pbutil, converts a Pixel Bender kernel file (.pbk) to a bytecode file (.pbj) that is Flash Player 10-compatible. This is equivalent to using the command File > Export Kernel Filter for Flash Player in the Pixel Bender Toolkit IDE.

Getting Started
Windows: 1. Download and install the Pixel Bender Toolkit from: http://www.adobe.com/devnet/pixelbender/ 2. The command-line utility is installed into your Program Files folder under:
Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Utilities CS5\Pixel Bender Toolkit 2

3. Locate the kernel file (.pbk) that you would like to convert to a bytecode file (.pbj). You can copy the file into the same folder as the command-line tool, or you can specify the full path to the input file when you run the tool. 4. Open a Command Prompt window from Start>All Programs>Accessories. 5. In the Command Prompt, change directory to where the command-line tool was installed by typing:
cd [boot drive\]Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Utilities CS5\Pixel Bender Toolkit 2

6. Run the utility by typing:


pbutil [fullPath\]inputFileName.pbk outputFileName.pbj

Mac OS:
1. Download and install the Pixel Bender Toolkit from: http://www.adobe.com/devnet/pixelbender/ 2. The command-line utility is installed into your Applications folder under:

3. Locate the kernel file (.pbk) that you would like to convert to a bytecode file (.pbj). You can copy the file into the same folder as the command-line tool, or you can specify the full path to the input file when you run the tool. 4. Open a Terminal window from /Applications/Utilities/Terminal. 5. In the Terminal, change directory to where the command-line tool was installed by typing:
cd /Applications/Utilities/Adobe Utilities CS5/Pixel Bender Toolkit 2

6. Run the utility by typing:


pbutil [fullPath\]inputFileName.pbk outputFileName.pbj

The command-line utility can return these values: Success (exit code 0) - the program execution was successful and the output file was written to disk. APPLICATION ERROR (exit code 2) the command line parameters were not specified correctly. ERROR (exit code 1) - errors occurred while compiling the input kernel file. Read the warnings and errors displayed to the standard output for more details. UNKNOWN (exit code 3) - the cause of the error could not be identified.
