SIMILARITIES AND DIFFERENCES BETWEEN ENGLISH AND SPANISH


1. Look at exercise 2 on page 9. (Reading World Languages) The words different, difficult, international or bilingual are very similar to our language because they come from latin. There are many words that come from latin in English, around 60% of their vocabulary. 2. Can you think of any other words? Go through unit 1 to look for more words similar in English and Spanish. Write them in the following table and write the translation into Spanish.

3. Look at your table. Is there any word with a translation that isnt similar to Spanish?

Words from exercise 3 and 4 are English words similar to Spanish but with a different meaning. They are called false friends. Some false friends are in the following list:
