A Note to you, -While December 2-5 is the week of prayer for international missions, we should remember our missionaries every day. -Southern Baptist churches collect the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering for the sole purpose of supporting international missions. Every penny of the offering goes to the International Mission Boards oversea budget, thus supporting our missionaries and their work. The National goal this year is $175 million. -The Executive Board Christmas dinner will be held at Irvine First Baptist Church at 7PM, December 3rd. -The Christmas Hymn Sings will follow the next day December 4th at Ivory Hill Baptist Church at Hargett and December 6th at Allansville Baptist Church in Winchester. Please attend the hymn sing in closest to your church. -Pastors Prayer Breakfast will be December 15th at 9AM at Kathys Restaurant in Clay City. -Office Closed, December 24 and 25, Merry Christmas. -Latest figures of un-churched population percentage in Boones Creek Baptist Association counties: Bourbon- 44.4%; Clark-47.7%; Estill-56.4%; Fayette-47.8%; Lee-71.9%; Madison-61.2%; Menifee-88.2%; Montgomery-65%; Powell-62.7% Food For Thought: Addressing messengers and guests to the 175th Annual Meeting of the Kentucky Baptist Convention gathered at Immanuel Baptist Church in Lexington, Rev. Jason Pettus, pastor of Living Hope Baptist Church in Bowling Green, preached about the spiritual condition and culture in the United States today. Rev. Pettus says believers in the United States are living in Babylon today. Rev. Pettus referenced the prophet Jeremiahs instructions to the children of Israel who had been taken from Jerusalem and held in captivity in Babylon. He used scripture from Jeremiah 29:1-14 and described Christians as exiles in todays culture. He said, God has not given us the option to give up. The prophet said God wanted the exiles to settle down and live among the Babylonians to contribute to the society of their temporary home, because if it prospers, you too will prosper. Similar to the Jews in Babylon, committed Christians today must also thrive in a culture that often contradicts foundational teachings. Rev. Pettus said, We need to deal with the fact that were living in a post-Christian culture. He referenced a recent study by the Pew Forum on Religion & Public Life that found that, for the first time in U.S. history, the majority of the population is not Protestant. Were going to have to change the way we fulfill Gods calling in our lives, he said. Taking care to speak Gods truth in a loving way, getting involved in the local community and developing the attitude of a peacemaker are ways to convey the hope of the gospel in todays world. Rev. Pettus said Kentucky Baptists should not be discouraged if their evangelistic efforts seem to fall flat. He said on a recent trip he shared the gospel with a fellow traveler who listened respectfully but did not accept the message. However, the man told him, It gives me hope that you have hope. Now is not the time to think were never going to see victory, Rev. Pettus said. The Great Commission still stands. God is still going to have His church. Yours in Christ,

Bro. John Ryder
