TEAM OF COMMERCIAL PILOTS WINS THE INAUGURAL RED BULL FLUGTAG IN SINGAPORE THE SUPER SEVENS CRAFT INSPIRED

BY A REAL AIRPLANE TAKES OFF!

(Singapore, 28 October 2012) Red Bull Flugtag teams spent weeks toiling over their man-made aircrafts in an attempt to put Singapore on the world map for creativity and today, Siloso Beach Sentosa saw some of the islands wackiest human-powered flying crafts take off a 6 meter ramp into the lagoon. A total of 38 teams (of 4 members per team) attempted, amidst cheers from a 35,000 strong crowd, to break the Red Bull Flugtag world record distance of 69.79m set in Mainz, Germany earlier this year. This international Red Bull event with a 20year history made its debut in Singapore and South East Asia for the first time today. A judging panel made up of 7 notable public figures (Paul Foster, Georgina Chang, Aide Iskandar, Rosalyn Lee, Felix Huang, Bobby Tonelli and Dee Kosh) judged each team on creativity, showmanship and of course flight distance. Eager spectators filled Siloso Beach to its capacity as early as 11 am and were treated to views of the crafts on the pit lane preparing for the first take-off at 12 noon. Nearly a quarter of the teams were inspired by local flair including Team Flurry Express and their MRT cabin, Team ERP with their flying ERP gantry. Local delights such as Chilli Crabs, Durians, Kueh Lapis and Char Siew Pows also took the skies, albeit briefly, before making a huge splash in the water below. The days prizewinners were announced by Red Bull Flugtag hosts, 98.7 FMs Justin Ang and Vernon A. a.k.a The Muttons and each winning team was presented with their prizes atop the ramp.

A SUMMARY OF PRIZE WINNERS: Red Bull Flugtag 1st Place, Team Super Sevens : The team comprising commercial pilots Pei Jun Wong, Andrew Tan, Joshua Raj and former cabin crew and model Cordelia Low will fly to Salzburg, Austria for an exclusive tour of Red Bulls Hangar-7, the home of the Flying Bulls and other amazing fleet of aeroplanes and choppers. The prize will also include an additional skydiving package for 24-year old Low, the pilot.

We didnt expect to win at all; we just wanted to have a good time and to entertain the crowd! Its been an exhilarating experience and its surreal we won! We wanted a plane that could glide over water and it did just that! Cordelia did well for her first solo flight in fact, she did so well that only her feet got wet! exclaimed teammate Wong. Red Bull Flugtag 2nd Place, Team Riff Raff Rubber Ruckus: Team Riff Raff Rubber Ruckus with their Rubber Duckie craft won 2nd place and flights to any destination in Europe for every member of the team. Red Bull Flugtag 3rd Place, Team Flurry Express: Team Flurry Express, flew away with the third prize of a tandem skydive experience outside of Singapore skies. Red Bulls Prize for the Wackiest Team Performance, The Serial Flyers This team with their samba performance and intricate costumes including feather head dresses impressed all the judges and won flights to New Zealand and a bungee jumping experience for each team member. Their craft was inspired by the local dish, Cereal Prawns.

The MINI Prize for the longest flight distance at Red Bull Flugtag Singapore: Team Amphibious Dragonfly Drone. Auto-maker MINI sponsored a special prize for Team Amphibious Dragonfly Drone who recorded the longest flight distance of the day. The team flew a distance of 18.2m on the day, earning the team an experience to drive a MINI in Singapore for 18 days. A Red Bull Spokesperson said, The first Red Bull Flugtag in Singapore and South East Asia was a great success. Red Bull events normally involve athletes but Red Bull Flugtag is unique because it celebrates our fans and supporters by letting them be the stars of the day. It was amazing to watch Singaporeans show off their creativity and we are proud to have given wings to the participants and their imaginations on the countrys first crazy flight day.
