GOP: Avoiding Cliff Means Working With Presiden

As we saw with the presidential election, the media is still plenty powerful when it comes to pushing an agenda and a failed president over the 50% mark. That's not a small victory, but it might by what's known as a pyrrhic victory -- a victory where in the long run the cost isnt worth the win. In the case of the Incredibly Shrinking Newspaper, since 2006 this cost has been devastating. In just six short years, newspaper ad revenues have collapsed over 50%, from $49.3 billion to $23.9 billion (http://www.mediapost.com/publications/article/187773 /red-all-over-newspaper-revenues-fall-inq3.html#axzz2DLKYjFTP).
For 25 straight quarters, newspaper advertising revenues have fallen. The media might be able to still affect the outcomes of election, but in the process, as you can see, the price of doing so has been their credibility; and by logical extension their customer base, and by further logical extension their revenue base. Lost credibility means fewer eyeballs which means fewer advertising dollars. Recent polls show that fewer and fewer people trust the mainstream media, and for obvious reasons. The media's behavior during the 2012 election certainly did nothing to improve this situation, which means this revenue problem is only going to get worse. Some of these institutions will forever be propped up as prestigious tax write-offs for the multi-national companies that own then. In fact, many newspapers would already be out of business were it not for a very patient parent company keeping them on life support.

But as we saw with the death of "Newsweek," not every cow is sacred. This, of course, is wonderful news for America. The sooner these corrupt enterprises disappear, the better. New Media just has to be ready to pick up the pieces with an infrastructure prepared to do original reporting and a staff that won't eventually become every bit as corrupted as the journOlist clique that's currently digging its own grave.

The wonderful thing is that no matter who becomes corrupt, there will always be alternative outlets giving the missing info. The battle has already been in large part won, in that a significant amount of Americans no longer trust a single news outlet to give the entire truth. Everyone who participated in this should be proud and happy, including the pioneers of Talk Radio and their many listeners. I'm sure there are many watchful eyes on efforts to shut down the current freedom to be had on the internet. The good thing there is that few of whatever ideology and politics wants this outlet to be censored, taxed and made difficult to access. How strange it would be to see Breitbart News and Newsbusters fighting the good fight alongside MMfA and the crew of MSNBC. Because, the pendulum is always swinging...

I hope they all have to go on Food Stamps. Especially the NYT, after what they have done and are doing to our country. Die, you b*st*rds.

I happily cancelled my subscription to our local NY Slimes wannabee, The Buffalo Snewz, many years ago and have never regretted it for a second. Two days after 9-11 they were running blame-America editorials while bodies were still being pulled from the rubble. I see that their editor just got a job with the NY Slimes. I'm sure she is very happy. The Buffalo Snewz is so hardcore Lefty, they politicize EVERYTHING. You can't even get through the blasted sports section, or a movie review, without shots taken at Republicans on the flimsiest of pretenses. If the Bills lose, it's Booosh's fault. One of the funniest was an entertainment page article blaming a bad year for local music on...wait for it...Newt Gingrich??? Screw them. Hope they die, and the sooner the better.

I'd say that the collapse of newspaper print industry is bad. Very bad. And it's online media not lost of credibility that is hurting their business model. Online books sale have now surpassed print books. I personally, lament over the end of printed media.

This doesn't have anything to do with liberal bias or loss of credibility.

It has to do with internet. The same article states ad revenues are up for online versions of these papers.

I think I may know why this is true. People get tired of being fed liberal propaganda, tired of being insulted for what they stand for, can't believe what is in the print. Why waste your money to get fed a bunch of biased lies. Quit taking the paper a long time ago.

Even when they all disappear, the agenda will remain and the corrupt so called journalists will simply migrate to another medium. They haven't learned a thing other than "We know what's right and wrong and who is good and who is bad.

The times picayune, AKA TP AKA toilet paper, is down to three newspapers per week, but they continue their agenda: dems good, republicans bad. You should see the lies and distortions on Governor Jindal. Most of us aren't interested in reading propoganda, and the rest of the population, usually dem voters, cannot read. I hope the owners of these rags are suffering, since they help to elect rats like obama, reid, pelosi, landrieu, etc. who make the rest of us suffer.

I'm not sure I buy "the MSM is failing due to liberal bias" line of thought. That's part of it of course, but I think what is really happening is a sea change in how people get information. Much of it is technologically driven (e-readers, smart phones, internet, the emerence of the talk radio format), and the technology lowers editorial input in most cases, while increasing information flow, thus forcing people to asses and analyze what they are hearing or reading more carefully. As people have gotten more accostomed to analyzing information for themselves (both Liberals and Conservatives), they are less satisfied with the editorial process in the MSM that homogenizes the presentation (Liberal spin notwithstanding, I think it is the "sameness" of the perspective AND presentation that is doing the real damage to the MSM)

Yes, new media like the hyper-partisan Breitbarts of the world will surely do the American people a great service by educating them about our Kenyan-Marxist-Maoist-Statist-Socialist President. For crying out loud.

And you'll be crying out loud when they come for you. They have succeeded in demonizing the right as racists/sexists/demons in disguise. If you have a contrary opinion they will eventually come for you too.

Yes, we cannot allow such a POS to ever inhabit the WH again. Someone has to educate dumbasses like yourself. It's a never ending job though since the damage from eating lead paint chips was so extensive. It's affected over half the population.

Yes. The public should have been educated about Obama and all candidates should be vetted regardless of their party affiliation, skin color, or religion.

All candidates were vetted or didn't you notice, I was watching MSNBC and ABC and they said that Obama was personally performing heart surgery and saving kittens from tall trees, and they said Romney was picking off the kittens with his semi-automatic assault rifle as poor Obama tried to climb down, or something along those lines.

The MSM forget the most basic premise of running a business with the intent to make a profit: give customers what they want or need, and they'll buy your product or service. People buy a newspaper because they want news. When the paper displays a hostility to truth, people go elsewhere....it's not rocket science

I haven't had a subscription to a major newspaper for years. I got sick and tired of whizzing through the pages and saw nothing but advertisements.

Yep. If it was worthwhile news, I'd buy it and read it. The Tucson Citizen is garbage and so is the Arizona Republic. Both liberal crap that I wouldn't take if it was free.

One of the benefits of a real newspaper in your hand, is you get the crossword puzzles, and NO trolls slithering in to spew their B.S. Also the news on the internet is not 'free'....I pay $70 a month for the service.

lol, it's called the internet, stupid. Give people something free (the news on the internet), and they will not pay for it (the newspaper).

I think the Bible is instructive in this case, from Matthew 7:5: Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye;and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye.

Treacherous leftists have their own websites. I ignore them as well. Maybe their should be a ratings agency for news websites. Conservative websites will win for credibility.
