First Grade News

December 3-7, 2012


What were learning
Our Bible stories for this week are Jesus Feeds the Five Thousand and Jesus Walks on Water. We will be reading My Buddy, Stan and Biscuit in our basal reading books. We are working on the sh digraph sound. In math we will be working on even and odd numbers, lines of symmetry, and numbering a clock face. Christmas recitations and songs, ball skills, and descriptive words fill our week as well.

Monday: Read Christ Light A Jesus Feeds the Five Thousand Read My Buddy, Stan Tuesday: Memory Work (Psalm 50:15 Call upon me in the day of trouble.) Practice Math Facts Wednesday: Read Christ Light B Jesus Walks on Water Read Biscuit Thursday: Memory Work: Christmas recitation (For this is what the Lord has

commanded us. I have made you a light for the Gentiles that you may bring salvation to the ends of the earth.)
Spelling Test (fish, shed, shelf, ship, shop, shot, shock, wish Bonus: shark, wash) Here are some options for challenging your child: Math Count how much money is in the piggy bank. Writing Write a Christmas letter to a friend or relative inviting them to the Christmas Program. Social Studies Identify which direction (north, south, east, or west) you are traveling.

Important Notes

Field Trip forms are due this Thursday! Friday is another Book Celebration Day! We will be celebrating books written and illustrated by Jan Brett featuring the book The Mitten. Your child may come to school with winter wear: scarves, mittens, hats, boots etc! Due to Collaboration Day this Friday, the students will be dismissed at 12:00. Apostles is putting together an outdoor Live Nativity! Invite family and friends to come see and hear the message of Jesus birth! The event is free and the musical program will be on-going from 6-8 p.m. on December 8-10. Saturday, December 8th is our required Christmas Program Rehearsal for all our school and Sunday School participants. Please have students come to the church by 8:45 a.m. We will practice from 9 10:00. Our Christmas Cantata (Sr. Choir, Jr. Choir, and Childrens Choir) will be this Sunday, December 9th during the 8:45 and 11:15 services.
