Communicate relevant information and ideas effectively to students, parents, and peers using a variety of digital age media and formats. Lesson Objective(s): 1. By the end of the lesson, students will be able to identify and communicate with others using basic French greetings and simple phrases, with 90% accuracy. 2. Students will be able to design their own short comic using the vocabulary covered in this lesson.

Introduce the Learning Activity 1. Because this lesson is being taught on the second or third day of school, students will be informed at the beginning of class that they will be taught some of the basic phrases used to communicate in French. Some of the phrases they may already know, while others will be newly introduced during todays lesson. During this time, students will log onto the classroom Edmodo website, using the class code they are given. 2. As a motivator, I will ask students how they first communicate with people they first meet. What questions do they ask, what statements do they make? Essentially, todays lesson is focused on meeting somebody for the first time and what you could say to get to know them. I will also inform students that by the end of the 20 minutes, they will have the ability to design their own short comic, with their own ideas, with the vocabulary presented in the days lesson.

Provide Information: 1. To start the lesson, students will open Edmodo, enter the course code, and follow the links for the assignments. 2. To introduce students to the basic phrases and greetings, we will go to www.digitaldialects.com, choose French under the language options, and then choose phrases and greetings in the first column. We will read through the phrases together, focusing on pronunciation. 3. Students will then respond orally to questions I ask, such as If I say merci, you respond with what? I will also add supplementary phrases on the board that are typically used with the questions and phrases. After I have asked a variety of these questions and feel like students have grasped the meanings, we will then move on to the next activity.

Provide Practice: 1. Using their cell phones or computers, students will answer the question provided at this link:

http://www.polleverywhere.com/free_text_polls/MTM2OTg4OTI5MA, (Quel ge avez-vous- How old are you?) The number for texting and the URL for website submission are both included at the top of the webpage. 2. After we see the results of the poll, students will play the audio version of the game on www.digitaldialects.com for about three minutes. After students have completed the game, I will answer and questions they have about the vocabulary. 3. Next, I will demonstrate to students how to design the comic strip at the Comic Creator website. I will give them examples and model for them how to include all elements. 4. Students will then use the new phrases they have learned by designing their own comic strips at http://www.readwritethink.org/classroom-resources/studentinteractives/comic-creator-30021.html. Using the vocabulary they have learned so far, they can create any type of story they want, using the characters and props provided. The comic strips must be at least 3-6 panels. If they do not finish it during the period, it must be completed for homework and submitted online or to me by the next class. 5. Students will complete the tasks stated in the objectives individually rather than in groups.

Provide Knowledge of Results: 1.During the initial introduction of the vocabulary, I will give students verbal corrections on mispronunciations if they need it. While the students are playing the game, I will be circulating the room, providing feedback and answering any questions students may have. 2.Written feedback will be given on the comic strips students submit to me. I will check for proper spelling, phrase usage, and word order. I will also be checking for creativity in their stories. A rubric has been included in Methods of Assessment section that gives detailed instructions on how feedback will be given.

Review the Activity:

1. To summarize what we have learned in the days lesson, students will complete a short 4 question multiple-choice quiz on Edmodo, which I will review before our next class to see if there is any confusion or questions.

Method of Assessment: 1. The assessment for todays lesson will not be graded, but students will be assessed using a rubric that allows me to see what they understood and what, if anything, they have questions on. A sample rubric is attached to this lesson plan and students will also be given a copy on Edmodo.
