Strategy Guide for Terrorblade the Soul

Introduction
Foreword
This is a guide on how to play Terrorblade as a jungle hero. Please, no spam about me not
getting soulsteal earlier, because 1) You don't need soulsteal to jungle and 2) This is a guide to
JUNGLE terrorblade.

Analysis of recent changes


With the introduction of 6.52c, a number of changes happened which directly benefits
Terrorblade.
1. The buffing of metamorphosis
2. The buffing of SnY
3. The nerfing of blink dagger.

What does this mean? It means that Terrorblade can now deal massive DPS and make himself
useful earlier in the game with SnY, whilst his enemies must try a lot harder to escape the
relentless beatdown from the FIREBALLS OF JUSTICE with blink dagger not being able to
activate after damage.

With the introduction of 6.57b... what has happened since then? Briefly:
1. Nerf of MS
2. Sunder cast point nerf
3. Nerf of SnY
4. Buff on diffusal

1+3 means no more easymode right click chase and own with SnY. 2 means no more gay
sunders in between stun and laguna blade. 4 means that diffusal can actually be a viable option
now.

With the BoT + SnY combo no longer granting the godly MS as it used to, Treads have now
become a favourable options as it gives that midgame boost which every carry desperately needs.

Why is Terrorblade the most powerful carry?


Let us take a look at the list of the top 3 classic carries in the game which I deem to be
Terrorblade, Void, and Spectre.

Compared to the other two, Terrorblade's main advantage is that he can jungle to avoid a crappy
early game and farm as fast as a dual laner if not faster.

Terrorblade is also less prone to disables, due to the fact that he has 2 images up. Disable one,
and you still got the other two laying a harsh serving of pain upon you.

Whats more, TB can also assume a ranged mode to deal out DPS. This avoids the disadvantages
of melee DPS heroes such as being more prone to get hurt due to closer proximity to enemy, and
getting blocked by other units from dealing damage to intended target.

He is also a lot better at taking down tower and raxes very quickly - the images rape.

Skill Build
Reasoning
Terrorblade's skill build is pretty flexible depending on what the circumstances are. I will
describe how to vary the skillbuild according to circumstances.

Golden Rule. Do not get soulsteal at all. Soul steal is for pussies, and it delays stat points and
image levels which reduce your battle power significantly.

To begin with, you always get one level of image. The extra image is extremely helpful as it can
be used to tank/scout/double pull, so there's no argument about that.

The second level is always stat, since you don't get soulsteal, and getting metamorphosis this
early seems implausible.

The third level is where skill builds start to diverge. You can go stat, if you feel that your mana
supply isn't enough to sustain image-jungling. If you have an allied CM who got aura, definitely
add it to image. Its up to personal preference here, I don't really mind which way you go.

The fourth level can either be added to image/stat/metamorphosis. Generally I add it to image,
however if there are enemies stalking the jungle I grab a level of metamorphosis in order to
provide limited ranged DPS in counterganks.

From there on you max out image and stat. You can grab sunder at 6/11 or 10/11. Grabbing it at 6
ensures extra safety, but reduces farming speed a bit. I generally grab it at 10/11 since I usually
don't have the mana necessary to pull off lvl1 sunder. Be sure to grab sunder at lvl11 since the
mana cost is reduced drastically making it a lot more useful.

Metamorphosis should be maxed by lvl 15.


From there on max stats, and then soulsteal 22-25.

Item Build
Early Game:

That should start your jungling off quite nicely. Those two tangoes are used to heal yourself, and
to create shorter paths to creep camps.

Upgrade ASAP to
You can now take on any camp in the normal forest without help from creeps.

Mid Game:

If you have farmed an SnY by 25-30 minutes, congratulations, you are pretty much assured of
victory.
Remember to buy the Yasha component before the Sange component. With 4 wraith bands and
yasha, you can now take on the ancient creep camps.

Mid game divergence:

With 6.57b, Terrorblade's dominating potential during both late game and mid game has been
drastically reduced because of the MS nerf. Gone are the days where you can simply RUN away
from a gank with your 454 MS even if you had shadowstrike on you. Hence we get Treads here
to cover for TB's midgame lack of power.

Late Game:
Once you upgrade to BoT, you obtain three distinct advantages.
1. You can now TP everywhere, freefarming lanes after successful pushes and ganks.
2. You can now chase people effectively due to your imba MS, using animation cancelling along
with ranged stance to ensure that enemies stay within range, where they will eventually get
maimed, and the fireballs will burn them to death.
3. Slows now no longer have a great effect on you. To escape a gank, simply run away. Your
superior MS should ensure your survival, unless you get chain-stunned/arrowed/jizzed on by
alchemist

Luxury Items!:

After your BoT SnY 4xWB, buy Butterfly first and then Skadi.
Do not buy Skadi first, you need more DPS on your images.
The reason why I'm including a luxuries section is that because TB farms a lot, and can actually
get these items should the game progress long enough.

Strategy
How to Jungle?
1) Do double creep pulls as much as you can.
2) Use images to help pull.
3) Practice timing issues in single player until you get it down.
4) Ask your team to ward the jungle if the other team ganks too much. Don't buy it yourself, you
are a carry hero.
5) From level 2-4, use an allied chicken to buy all your items and finish off your gold supply.
Once you do that, go suicide purposely to any creep camp to obtain free fountain trip. Not
recommended if you play in Dota Client games, and are pedantic about KD ratios.
DO NOT USE SOULSTEAL TO JUNGLE
Which camps to kill?
At this stage, use creep pulls to kill camps. You can also kill the easy camps (although a bit
difficult at lower levels)

At this stage, you can kill any camp in the normal forest.

At this stage, you can kill the ancient camps.

How to fight properly?


Animation canceling is KEY to killing with Terrorblade, especially in solo backstab instances.
You should animation cancel + chase when you have SnY + Boots at least. Once you proc maim,
you can keep on animation canceling if you're feeling gosu, or just be lazy and let the autoattacks
do its trick xD
In large team battles, always use Metamorphosis. Melee images may attack faster, but they
generally get in each other's way. Unless you have alot of stuns, and are fighting in open space,
stick with the ranged mode of DPS.

Same goes for solo backstabbing. If your ranged form isn't ready, its quite unlikely that you will
be able to backstab effectively.

Remember that sunder has a relatively short range, and gets owned by silence. Use common
sense, don't wait until red hp to sunder if there's a Lina around waiting to Laguna blade you like
a pitiful fool.

You are probably the best tower killer in your team. Spam those images when pushing!

What is Terrorblade's Role?


Terrorblade is meant to be played as a carry. What does that mean?
It means that you should farm your ass off, as much as possible.

Stay in the jungle and farm. If there is a free lane near you, go out there, and LAST HIT EVERY
ONE OF THE CREEPS. (Remember that free lanes almost always give more exp and gold than
pure jungling)

Do not participate in ganks until you have SnY. Until you obtain SnY, your presence probably
won't make much difference in the outcome of the gank. Do not participate in faraway ganks.
Instead, use the distraction that your team mates have kindly created to farm your ass off to that
SnY.

Once you have that SnY though, you are expected to CARRY. Push a few towers, grab some
kills, BUT KEEP ON FARMING IF THERE'S NOTHING ELSE TO DO.

A fairly competitive scrim between my clan and another IH.


This game is not meant for showcasing how to double pull. In fact, I screw up a lot of pulls early
on in the game (due to lack of practice) which lead to my level disadvantage. Meanwhile, SK +
Lina were getting owned by Pugna and Bane at bot. Lane control was lost. Map control was lost.
Constant Jungle ganks.

This is a better replay if you want to see how to pull properly. Pub game, a lot of stomping. I
recommend only watching the first 15 minutes or so for learning how to double pull. The rest is
pretty generic pubstomp.
