This is a sample for Computer Hardware Laboratory Report By Tim Vain Introduction This report gives an analysis of all

computer Hardware on an Esquire Computer station number Poly/1/OE/277 in CIT Lab 2 at the Malawi Polytechnic and it includes a discussion of the available hardware as at 2 October 2012. It focuses on the analysis of the basic input and output hardware on the computers, and the details about the input and output interfaces including the processing, and storage hardware. Aim The aim of this report is to Identify, analyse and Document the Computer System (#Poly/1/OE/277). This will include the specifications of the input and output Devices and interfaces found on the System, The Specifications of the processing and Storage Hardware found on the System. Materials Computer name: Mouse: Keyboard: Monitor: Method Esquire Intex Optic USB Mouse Elife USB Keyboard CRX VL700 (Number CITL011)

Inspect the Computer Unit visually on the outside to find and identify the input and output devices and Interfaces available on the computer unit. Using the system Software, find out about the Processing hardware, Storage Hardware, and find out about their specifications. Findings/Results A) Input and Output devices and interfaces Input Devices Mouse(Optical USB) Key board(Elife USB) Joy Stick port Output Devices Monitor (CTX VL700) #CITL011 Input Interfaces PS2 Mouse Ps2 key board Line in (3.5mm on Sound Card) Microphone (3.5mm on Sound Card) Apart from the interfaces listed above there were also other interfaces which can both be used as input and output simultaneously. Such interfaces are USB ports Output Interfaces VGA 25 pin parallel port (Printer) Speakers(3.5m m on sound Card)

(2 on the rear panel and 2 on the front panel), and an RJ45 Ethernet Connector at the back panel

B) Processing and Storage Hardware Processing Processor; Intel (R) Pentium 4 CPU 2.80 GHz Clock speed; 2.8GHz L2 Cache; 512KB

Storage Hard drive; 18.6 gigabytes, Floppy Drive and CD Rom Drive Memory Ram 112 MB

Discussion From the observations and the analysis in the lab session that has been documented here, we see that the computer system has very old and out dated hardware and other devices on it that do not match to the pace and requirements of the Users needs from a PC. With the advanved in the previous there have been programmes and Systems software that require more sophisticated hardware in computer systems and more Storage space and memory. Conclusion The computer System (Esquire Station # Poly/1/OE/277) has Hardware and software that is out-dated and needs upgrading or replacement to match with the user needs and demands in this world of IT advancement. Recommendation From the inspection of the computer system I would recommend the government / Administration to consider replacing the computer system and all other similar computer systems than to upgrade them part by part because this would rather be expensive.
