Oil Paints : These are recommended colors to get started with. If you already have other colors, a cerulean or cobalt blue, for example, just bring what you have as long as you have white, black, red, blue, and yellow at the beginning. You need traditional oils (not water based). You are encouraged to purchase professional or artist grade paints as your budget allows as opposed to Sudent or Academy colors which contain less paint and more filler - which can be frustrating in learning to mix paint! Winton paint, for example, is the student grade line made by Winsor & Newton- which is the professional line and more expensive- but easier to work with. Titanium white Ivory black Cadmium yellow light or cadmium yellow pale Cadmium yellow or cadmium yellow med (not Winton) Cadmium red Alizarin crimson Ultramarine blue Thalo blue Raw umber Palette: disposable palette (gray preferred but white is fine) or wooden, plexiglass, Pocket color wheel Canvas paper pads 8 x 10 and 9 x 12 (Well start with these) Stretched canvases or canvas panels as needed in assorted sizes 8 x 10, 9 x 12, 16 x 20.
