Strategy Guide for Meepo the Geomancer

Every meepoplayer out there knows the common build composed of Treads + Mekansm +
Vladimirs Offering. A solid build, probably the best for playing Meepo like a "normal"
hero.
A lot of people are still walking around with all 4 clones and try to get a kill, sacrificing
Meepos ability to farm and roam at the same time. Also they often make the mistake of
trying to catch someone with net from the maximum range with often results in a miss and
the escape of the enemy hero. Dagger solves this problem and is the item what this guide is
all about.

Hero Abilities

Earthbind
Your well known disable, which becomes a permanent one once you maxed it out and hit lvl
16

Level 1 - 500 casting range.

Level 2 - 750 casting range.
Level 3 - 1000 casting range.
Level 4 - 1250 casting range.

Cooldown: 20/16/12/8 seconds.

Level 1: 100 mana, 20 sec cooldown.

Level 2: 100 mana, 16 sec cooldown.
Level 3: 100 mana, 12 sec cooldown.
Level 4: 100 mana, 8 sec cooldown

Can be used for scouting, cancels channeling and makes invisibility obsolete if the hero has
been caught before going invis. It cannot hit units while they are invisible. Grounds air
units too and goes through magic immunity.
Poof

Your teleport and main damage skill. Poof deals damage in the departure and arrival
locations, which means double damage if they are the same.

Level 1 - 60 damage.
Level 2 - 80 damage.
Level 3 - 100 damage.
Level 4 - 120 damage.

Cooldown: 20/18/16/14 seconds.

Level 1: 140 mana, 20 sec cooldown.

Level 2: 120 mana, 18 sec cooldown.
Level 3: 100 mana, 16 sec cooldown.
Level 4: 80 mana, 14 sec cooldown.

Two level 4 poofs in a creepwave are clearing it completly, since it has a relativly low cd it
should be used also for farming.

Geostrike
A stackable slow and DOT skill.

Level 1 - 5% slow, 4 dps.

Level 2 - 10% slow, 8 dps.
Level 3 - 15% slow, 12 dps.
Level 4 - 20% slow, 16 dps.

Buff placers do not stack

Passive

Since the recent nerf it doesnt help in farming early on and only 5% are not enough to
catch up with a fleeing hero, the skill wont be gotten until mid game.
Divided we stand
Your ultimate which creates a copy of you which can only carry the same boots as you,
shares your attribute bonuses and gets 25% of the extra attributes your main Meepo has. If
one dies, all die.

Level 1 - 1 Geomancer.
Level 2 - 2 Geomancers.
Level 3 - 3 Geomancers.

Passive

The skill that offers you complete mapcontrol, great farming abilitys, a high damage
output, a permanent disable and much more in combination with your other spells.

Skill Build

Level 1 - Earthbind
Level 2-3 - Poof
Level 4 - Earthbind
Levle 5 - Poof
Level 6 - Divided we stand
Level 7 - Poof
Level 8 - Earthbind
Level 9-10 - Geostrike
Level 11 - Divided we stand
Level 12 - Geostrike
Level 13 - Earthbind
Level 14 - Geostrike
Level 16 - Divided we stand

Justification: Since we are building a poof Meepo, maxing this out first is self-explanatory.
Earthbind is gotten early for disabling enemys to give your teammates the chance to get a kill.
Geostrike is skipped to level 9 since you need clones to make it effective. Divided we stand is
gotten whenever possible, since it boosts all your other spells.

Core Items
Ring of Basilius: I recommend to always get it even before boots. Since you use poof for
farming and killing, you need the mana regeneration. It can be converted into Vladimirs offering
later on.

Strength Power Treads: The Treads offer alll your clones alot of survivability and boosting your
AS so you can take down enemys faster. Switching them to AGI while you are trying to kill
someone gives you +40 dmg overall. Sometimes needed, but only do so, if you know you will
bring yoiur enemy down.

Mekansm: You need the healing buff to keep your clones alive. It is build up pretty easy, after
you have your Headress of Rejuvenation, you shouldnt return to base until you can afford the
complete item, since Nathrezim Buckler alone is useless.

Dagger: Dagger is needed for the combo we want to perform later on but isnt limited to this
purpose. Its one of the most versatile items in the game and nearly every hero is a potential
wielder. If you are outleveld due to poor farming, dont try to get it, aim for a guinsoo instead to
support your team.

After Core

Vladimirs Offering: The lifeleech becomes handy when you have to take down stronger
opponents or roshan. It makes farming in the woods even easier and you probably never have to
return to the fountain again.

Assault Curiass: Increases the AS and armour of all your clones and gives a negative armour
aura to the enemy. A great item which can nearly be always obtained since Meepo farms really
good. Dont rush it though, sometimes it is better to safe some money to buy yourself back.

Luxury Items
Guinsoo Scythe of the wise: Hex makes it even easier to pull of your combo and helps your
team alot. It also fixes the manaproblem the main Meepo has. If the game really lasts this long, i
recommend this item and replace bottle with it.

Stygian Desolator: Even though this is a buff placer and makes geostrike (on your main Meepo)
useless, it boosts your killing abillity alot more than geostrike ever could. Only get this at the
very end, and if you have an unused slot.

Aegis: Listed here, because you need an itemslot to carry it. Get it after you have finished
Vladimirs and have at least 3 clones + an ally. If Roshan smacks one of your clones too hard,
send him back until he punches someone else and reengage. Shortly before he drops the aegis,
deselect all your clones so you have only your main Meepo selected, to pick it up without delay.

Other Items

These are mostly variation items which can replace others.

Shivas Guard: Shivas can replace Guinsoos since it also fixes your manaproblem and the extra
200 dmg explosion which also slows becomes handy if you want to boost your aoe damage.

Lothars Edge: Some people are using Lothars instead of dagger, which works too, since you
dont need that much timing anymore. Drawbacks are the high price and it is easy to counter. Not
as versatile like dagger, but still worth mentioning.

Boots of Travel
For faster pushing later on, BoT can be gotten. Since the poof nerf you cant push two lanes at
once anymore.

Strategy

Level 1 - 6: Ask for a solo lane or team up with an ally, at this point it is not important to farm
alot, you only need to hit level 6. Grab a Ring of Regeneration, 2x Branches and a healing
salve(reason: If you manage to get to level 6 without being damaged to much, you can use it to
heal your clones aswell), play defensivly, do not try to get lasthits or denys if you have to sacrify
health. Meepo has only a very low damage output and since we skipped Geostrike, its even
harder to lasthit/deny.
Net your enemys when they are getting hit by your tower to harass them a bit. Early ganking in
your lane is recommended since you have a short disable.

Level 6 - 11: As soon as you reach level 6 let a teammate take over your lane and start ganking.
Between the ganks farm in the jungle and grab a creepwave from time to time. Do not farm too
much creepwaves though, pushing into a tower alone doesnt help much and you deny your allys
a lot of XP they sooner or later need. You get more than they do in ganks so leave the creeps to
them .
In this phase its all about getting money and some XP. Keep playing defensivly but participate in
ganks.

Level 11 - 16: By reaching level 11 you should have finished your core items. Now you will start
killing heros on your own.
Your main Meepo is the initiator, while the other two keep on farming. Look for some lone hero
on enemy territory and move into dagger range. Command your two clones to poof to your
position and blink to the enemy hero right after doing so. Throw a net and use poof on your main
Meepo too. The others will pop out, dealing damage and start hitting your victim. Use their nets
to keep him where he belongs and kill him. Retreat afterwards immideatly and go on with
farming. With 3 Meepos you can always farm the jungle and a lane.

Mostly the enemy will start to team up, not farming lanes alone, giving you more time to spend
in the jungle and on the lanes.

Level 16 and above: By reaching 16 not much changes in your playstyle, your combo becomes
more effective and you should outlevel the enemy at least by 2-4 level. Participate in ganks and
try to kill everyone who dares to farm alone.

Pushing and teamfights: Pushing becomes more vital in this stage of the game, in pushes your
role is to be the pointman and initiator. If a clash is going to happen soon, net everyone within
your range. If they stay and decide to fight, engage with your team, blink in and execute your
combo.
Try to avoid those nasty aoe ultis by waiting a bit before blinking. You wont help anyone by
increasing ES' Echosam damage or being a freekill for Tinys Avalanche/Toss, just because you
blinked in too early.

After won teamfights do not retreat, keep pushing instead. Getting raxes down while you still
outlevel the enemy is a must, if the catch up, your combo becomes less and less effective and in
the end youll be food. Send your most damaged clone back, he will be your rescue anchor if the
enemy team buys back or comes back healed for a countergang.

Do's and No go's

Heros which shouldnt be attacked:

Some heros cant be attacked by you alone, Tiny and ES were mentioned before, Lina and Lion
are also pesky, same goes for NA and sometimes Lich. Ask an ally for help. Trying to tank all
their spells wont work, since you dont even have the extra hp of Treads. And theres Axe. Avoid
him at any cost, 4 spins of Counter Helix and he can instagibs you with Culling Blade.

Watch the minmap!:

Not only to find your next victim, also to not become one.
If they engage you try to poof to your jungling clones or them to your laning main Meepo.
Dont retreat too early!:
Even if you have taken alot of damage, it doesnt mean you should run all the way back to the
fountain while you still have teammates around which can finish the job. Just stay out of enemys
range, you still have a permanent disable that can be spammed from long range. Take advantage
of it.

Take advantage of poof & teleport!:

If you decide to buy boots of travel, you can poof and beam around as you please. For example,
if there is noone in botlane and a big creepwave awaits you, teleport in, poof one of your clones,
grab the gold and XP and poof back.

Remap your hotkeys and(learn to) use them!:

I dont remember the original ones, since I switched them after playing Meepo for the first time.
Currently I use Q for Earthbind and W for poof. TAB is located left of Q, so its pretty easy to
switch through the clones. Key "1" is mapped to Main Meepo + 1 Minion, "2" for the other two
clones and "3" for the entire group(can be done ingame by selecting those you want to group and
press CTRL + 1/2/3/.../9).

Dont play the chicken game!

Fighting a netted enemy untill one chickens out is cool, but he will definetly not be the one who
will do so since he is netted. If there is only a small possibility that he will kill one of your
minions with his attacks or a cooled down spell, simply order the injured clone out of range
while keeping him unable to move.
